White Doors, Your first link doesn't talk about why alcoholic beverages contribute to health - it is more about the ills of booze than anything else - so you might want to find another one. Your 'pot' link is not a study - it is a propoganda piece from the government of the US. Try harder.

Leave it to some here to make this tragedy into a bash all Muslims thread. News lows are struck here daily eh? What totally poor taste. My feelings go out to those who lost their loved ones in what was obviously a poorly planned event in a dangerous location.

Yeah, well Hannity and Colmes are not exactly known to be fair and balanced. I saw the interview and was again impressed with Paul's behaviour. No rhetoric - just simple, straight talk!! Have you heard about the November 5th drive? This November Fifth One thing I think everyone can admit - the creativity and rapid growth of Paul's supporters is nothing short of miraculous! It's very nice to see that there are so many patriotic people left in the US, it's especially good to see the huge number of youth - who usually are quite complacent when it comes to elections.

Hi GostHacked! Glad you enjoyed it, he was great eh! What I liked and found so refreshing was when he says towards the end, that while he may have his failings - the IDEA does not!! Have you noticed that the 'smear' campaigns are beginning to turn up against this man? (You know - things taken out of context etc?)

Link to study please. From what I recall wrt to just one of these types of studies I have read, albeit a long time ago, was that for research purposes, the entire plant was ground up and used. This included stems and leaves - which are NOT smoked by users and contain massive amounts of 'tars'. It is only the flowers which are used for any kind of combustive consumption. WRT cigarettes - the tar is the least of your worries - the hundreds of added ingredients are the real kicker with commercial tobacco. (If you are going to smoke tobacco - you are certainly better off growing your own). I would also add - that a comparison between tobacco and cannabis is poor from the onset - like comparing apples to pork chops - yes both can be eaten but the similarity ends there. Link to studies please! Perhaps you should! WRT Red wine it is the polyphenols and variant anti-oxidents which seem to contribute the majority of beneficial effects. ( Here is one article wrt red wine and cancer. While the alcohol content may play some role (perhaps solubility of particular elements within the solution) - it is NOT the main variable contributing to positive health effects. White Doors, do you know why cannabis was criminalised in the first place? (Hint: NOT for health concerns).

Hi K!! You might be able to find the first 'four' here: State of the Union Address 1991 excerpts: What is at stake is more than one small country, it is a big idea— a new world order, where diverse nations are drawn together in common cause to achieve the universal aspirations of mankind: peace and security, freedom, and the rule of law. *he mentions it again* The world can therefore seize this opportunity to fulfill the long-held promise of a new world order—where brutality will go unrewarded, and aggression will meet collective resistance. BTW this is the famous 'thousand points of light' speech and an interesting read considering everything that thas happened since.

I imagine the camera and memory chip will be accidented somehow. There must be something on there that the RCMP really don't want anyone to see. Welcome to Canada!

Amsterdam: Religion of peace strikes again
buffycat replied to ScottSA's topic in The Rest of the World
jbg, you forgot the ultimate suffering folks of all time: The Zionist Jews!! Exploiting their dead still! While actual survivors live in squalor. The exploiters and sometimes chief architects of the plight of ordinary Jews for over one hundred years - play the victim card still while supressing and oppressing a native population which included Jews, Muslims and Christians all living in peace - dividing them and cleansing them for the last 60 years (actually a little more). What fun! And gosh - can one even talk about this here in NA? Of course not!! But you guys are free to bash a whole lot of others who are just following the example of those who have repeated these injustices throughout history (religion irrelevant) eh? What a bunch of F***in' hypocrites you all are. It wasn't right or humane when Hitler did it. It wasn't right or humane when Stalin et al did it, it isn't right and humane when the Israelis do it - and it's all the same perversion time and time again. Divide, conquer - and through deception we shall make war. Tis the way... -
Hello Frankie, I agree with your heartfelt post 100%. IMO this problem is due to an extreme double standard wrt certain members on this board. This contributes to an overall attitude which does not encourage true discussion and debate. Sad eh?

Hello Shavluk, This is a sad occurance which happens far more often than many realize - especially with those officers forced to work undercover in the narcotics units. It is also another face of prohibition and the 'unintended' consequences of our drug laws. While prohibition attempts (unsuccessfully) to change social behaviours - in real life it tends to lead to corruption of public officials and the creation of a huge black market and its necessary criminal elements. LEAP

This whole Kurdish thing is very sticky. Israel has been training the Kurds, yet Israel also needs to maintain a good relationship with Turkey - one of the only Muslim countries she actually gets along with currently. Odd though how this is never mentioned. The Kurds better be more careful - they are about to be sacrificed by all sides involved it seems.

Oh come on jbg - Ariel Sharon was directly responsible for the massacre at the Sabra and Shatilla camps. As far as I know he is still considered an Israeli. http://www.zmag.org/ZMag/articles/jun02herman.html -
Ahh yes, the usual name calling by the same old offenders... *sigh* some things never change around here. Sorry, Argus but Putin can't hold a candle to the destruction that the US under the Bush regime has wrought. Considering the bloody mess Putin inherited I think he's done VERY well indeed. I only wish our own government had the same sense of nationalism for Canada - instead we just sell ourselves out to the lowest bidder it seems. WRT poisoning - got any proof of your allegations? Cuz as far as I know the jury is still out on both the Yushenko (sp) and the other poisoning... IOW it is uncertain as to who actually did it. Carry on... (put's hard hat on awaiting the personal insults and attacks)

MYANMAR/BURMA: Riot Police Set Upon Protesting Monks
buffycat replied to jennie's topic in The Rest of the World
Taking this thread back into theme, here is an very interesting article about the whole affair - in a perspective which I haven't seen before. Seems our 'friends' at the "National Endowment for Democracy" have some interesting connections to recent events in Burma (recall these are the same folks who have sponsered rather unpopular changes in South America as well). The Geopolitical Stakes of the Saffron Revolution Some excerpts: Ahhh, how nice of the IMF and World Bank eh? Imagine my (complete lack of) surprise! Some more familiar faces. Not pleasant ones either... Well, these are the sorts of folks who like to keep their own riegns on things - and their economic ideals are those of the old 'Chicago Boys' style. We need only look at some of the puppet regimes in South America to see the usual results. A few of which, thankfully have been tossed out their petards and rightfully so. I think this is a valid point wrt the US' interests in the region. I find it interesting that many other news sources seemed to ignore completely the influence of Burma's gas resouces. Certainly this must also play a role. This part is interesting - since India seems now to be backing out of her nuclear deals with the US. Is she perhaps concerned about fulfilling all of the fine print wrt favours for the US? -
Who would you like to see hauled before the World Court?
buffycat replied to Higgly's topic in The Rest of the World
Clinton interned more drug offenders and strengthened federal controls that any republican (outisde perhaps of the current fiasco). Clinton was the typical say one thing do the other. At the very least Bush is quite transparant about he wants to do - it ain't pretty but it's obvious to see. Now wrt Feith: Douglas Feith Make your own mind up. So many of those who profess to 'save' us are just the other side of the same coin. -
Reasonable Accomadation, what does that mean?
buffycat replied to Moxie's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
That is one of the most thoughtful posts I've read on here. Thank you. -

buffycat replied to Higgly's topic in The Rest of the World
Merkel is no different that Harper. She cowtows to the same 'ilk'. The Clintons are as nasty as the Bushes - and think about it - if Hillary gets elected the Americans will have had a Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton Dynasty ruling thier 'nation' for the last decades. I don't agree with all of Putin's actions - but he has done some other things which certainly have been good for Russians. I know that is nationalistic - but his taking back of national resources is something that WE in Canada should really be considering - before we have sold ourselves out entirely. I will admit I am not an expert or really that learned on the whole Cheychna problem - there is only so much time for all the injustices! Suffice to say I think there is more there than meets the surface - just as in the Ukraine. Sometimes old grievances die hard eh? As far as Feith goes - I'd recommend you just google him - he is certainly a slimy individual. He has intricate links with Perle and a neocon in the first degree. Last I heard he has left the US.
