Federal Dental Care vs Tax Cut

You realize they also create and enforce laws right, and manage the justice system? And defend the security of the country? And manage international relations/trade, and the macro economy? And build and maintain infrastructure? And manage environmental issues and natural resources? And facilitate immigration? There's many other government departments besides Service Canada, it's not all "gimme free stuff". Are your from BC or not? -
Public fire dept is just one industry that is socialized. Canada has some industries that are socialized and most that aren't. Different countries have different levels of a socialized economy. Pretty much all countries have some level of socialism, it is a matter of degrees and which and how many industries.
-
The fire dept is socialism. Public ownership for the benefit of all, exactly what your definition says. If you like fire dept socialism but not health care socialism that's simply your subjective bias, but they are the same. If you want private fire dept that's totally possible. Call up a company to put out your fire for you for a fee.

Federal Dental Care vs Tax Cut

LOL what??? Are you insane? Wait, do you live in British Columbia? ? -
Yes I agree with all of this. I'm not saying hire based on diversity or hire women and lower standards, i'm saying the culture needs to be changed, in terms of how these people are treated in the military and it's not the white boys club anymore, so that anyone who wants to join will feel welcomed if they can do the job. But I'm sure there are many reasons for the recruiting problem. I've worked with all men in the trades, a lot of them can be pigs. Not all of course.

When you talk to soldiers, they get some discounts on everyday stuff like restaurants, movie tickets, travel etc for being in the military. You hear them talk about when they go down to the US for vacation and how the Americans honour their discounts even as Canadians, and how many more businesses and organizations give them the discounts. They respect their soldiers a lot more in the US. My grandfather said he'd never use the discounts, he didn't serve for freebies. He'd never go to the Legion, a bunch of drunken idiots they mostly were he said. But I don't begrudge any soldier for taking advantage of the meager benefits they're offered, they deserve it.

Some of the inclusiveness/diversity efforts are to create a safer and more welcoming environment for today's youth to recruit. You can't fill an army filled with straight white male kids anymore. POC may see it as not very welcoming to racial minorities, nor women (like the recent sexual harassment scandals). They need a culture change and are trying. This government is an embarrassment to our military. They have their priorities shoved up their bottoms. They are the definition of decadence. They're too busy signaling their virtue. Some of the people at the top are an embarrassment too, looking at the sexual harassment scandals. At least this government is good at women's rights so they can help fix that problem. If this were 40 years ago and we didn't have many women in the military would we even have a military? What would the numbers be like?

2022 Provincial Election in Quebec

1. Right wants control, but not to create a utopia. They want to control the social sphere as you say (moral police), and control the rules of the economic sphere so that they can't be controlled (they want to be left alone - low taxes, free speech, small government, right to own guns...freedom). But "freedom" creates hierarchies. A lot of lefties don't like freedom for this reason, hence something like communism. A communist country can't allow people to be able to freely leave their country because people with the talent to make money will leave. And "free speech" is now dangerous to the left, it makes it free for people to hurt other's feelings and spread ideas they don't like, especially those that will harm the oppressed (anti-trans, racist speech etc). "Free speech" used to be dangerous to the right 30 years ago because it offended their Christian morals (Twisted Sister, Mortal Kombat, Marilyn Manson). The problem with the right is that their freedom can go so far as to also create hierarchies which are cruel & tyrannical. I'm not saying the right is any better or worse than the left, just better and worse in different ways. Living under an oppressive communist state or in a libertarian dog-eat-dog rightwing state are both bad. Both result in tyrannical hierarchies. The irony is that the left can't create the equality that they want without tyranny, because when people are left to their own devices hierarchies naturally develop. A libertarian state of freedom with no rules is the state of nature, and nobody wants to go back to dog-eat-dog. Nature is brutal and cruel (Hobbes). So the answer is something centrist between these 2 extremes: capitalism (freedom, hierarchy) with some social programs & redistribution & regulation (government control, equality). So yes, an economic meritocracy with a helping hand at the bottom paid for by the top. 2. Yes it's odd. Because the only way you can have equality of outcome is through tyranny. Equality of opportunity is more desirable IMO. 3. Monarchies were established through competition. Different factions fought for power (Game of Thrones style). The person that won the competition became "king" and solidified their rule. But they inevitably become tyrannical, so they are overthrown. 4. Well I didn't say they are the same, just related. You generally can't have competition without hierarchies. 7. It's self-regulating. The left won't let the right go too far, and vice versa. 8. Ying and yang. Both needed to reach balance, unfortunately. Male & female, night & day, Justin & Pierre. -

Possible, but not very likely to happen. Consumers are usually self-interested rational actors. -
Federal Dental Care vs Tax Cut
Moonlight Graham replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This is the crux of the problem in our society. The solution is some kind of redistribution. Giving low income people, especially their kids, free dental sounds good, but doesn't actually address the problem because the feds aren't taxing the rich to pay for it, they're just adding to the debt. This has been their solution to most economic problems since elected. They are solving one problem by creating another. The political cost of adding to the debt is low because then it becomes the problem of future generations to pay for it instead of the rich right now. -
2022 Provincial Election in Quebec

Leftists want to control society in order to create their ideal utopia. In their naive idealism they underestimate the complexity of very complex systems like economics and international politics. They are mainly interested in eliminating hierarchies. Equality. But hierarchies are based on competition - winners and losers. The natural world is literally based on competition. So it is not desirable to eliminate all hierarchies, since it is the force that drives literally the entire living world forward and makes it better. So sometimes the leftists go too far in eliminating hierarchies, and it results in participation trophies. Hierarchies are desirable. The right's job is to show the left the beauty & utility in hierarchy. And this is why they always disagree. But hierarchies become corrupt when the top of the hierarchy uses its power to behave tyrannically to those lower in the hierarchy. The left's job is to point this out and try to fix it when it happens, without going too far and eliminating hierarchies completely or unnecessarily, which is the right's job to prevent. So democracy is a self-regulating system of left vs right, and why dictatorships often fail. Ironically, sometimes the left reaches the top of the hierarchy and uses their power to create their utopia, and in order to do so they institute systems or laws which are tyrannical, and so the left themselves corrupts the hierarchy. Lenin. Stalin. Trudeau? ? -

SHOCKER - Poilievre goes super-WOKE !
Moonlight Graham replied to Michael Hardner's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Could have fooled me. Democrats and Republicans are basically enemies of the republic. Follow the money. Liberals and Conservatives are no different. They overthrew tyranny, not democracy. A republic is a type of democracy. One without a monarch as head of state. America was a democracy, it's now a plutocracy. Your knowledge of history is pretty good, your knowledge of government & institutions is lacking. They can hate me but they can never defeat me. Please keep insulting me, it makes me stronger. Their hatred makes me stronger. Psychological callus. -
1. Let's be more specific though, let's call it...the far-right? I dunno the exact label, but it's something bad, and the opposite of the far-left, which is also bad, but for which there is more sympathy, because hating the more powerful will always be more vogue than hating the less powerful. 2. The issues change, the ideology remains the same. Left-wing ideology did not start 60 years ago, Marx was a leftist, so was Lenin, and Jesus. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left-wing_politics 3. Are you sure?

When a majority race invokes racial blame upon a minority race it is called Nazism. When a majority race invokes racial blame upon themselves (self-hatred) or the majority race invokes racial blame upon a majority race it is called leftism. Maybe the majority race will hate themselves so much they will commit genocide against themselves, and the minority races will join in. But this would never happen...

I asked for evidence. Which means hyperlinks. I'm an open-minded guy, but also logical. In order to believe his claims I need evidence. I'm not a man of faith. I don't believe that Jesus rose from the dead or that Trump had the election stolen from him without evidence. So if you have evidence, please post it.

Trump Sues CNN For $475 Million
Moonlight Graham replied to DONKIROCK's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
You do realize that pressuring Pence to not certify the election results he wanted to overturn is a coup attempt right? And same with pressuring a high ranking Georgia official?
