The U.S. needs the oil in the middle-east. 56% of all world oil reserves are in the middle-east. Saudi Arabia has the most, with 20% of all the world's oil (Canada is actually #2 suprisingly, with 13%). The U.S. only has 1.54% of the world's oil reserves. The U.S. needs to control the oil & have as much access to it as possible to keep the prices down. They may not have a lot of oil, but the sure use a lot of it. some links: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil_reserves#...rves_by_country http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_count...en_oil_reserves

Government could fall as early as Friday
Moonlight Graham replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
An election would be so stupid right now. The country is doing ok right now and people don't want another election. The Liberals have next to nothing major to bash the Cons on, other than Afghanistan. I'm not a CPC guy but it would be dumb to change gov't right now considering we are starting to recover from the economic woes. I don't see the Cons getting elected out of power unless they screw up somewhere, and right now they are probably the most squeaky clean since Harper became PM. The Liberals need to find some sort of scandal to give them momentum if they want a hope in hell right now. -
American weapons in Hands of Taliban
Moonlight Graham replied to a topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Don't mean to offend, but this subject is kinda old news. Heck, i bet the Taliban are still using weapons the U.S. gave/bought them in 80's. -
Obama's message to Students

To his credit, the auto manufacturers, Wall Street, and health care sector have been performing horrifically to the point of collapse (not really the case with health care, but it still is doing poorly). -
White Liberals who live in white towns
Moonlight Graham replied to Mr.Canada's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
People living in urban areas where there are more minorities tend to be more liberal, and more conservatives tend to live in rural areas. So your argument could easily be reversed. Why do conservatives (mostly white folk) complain about multiculturalism if they have less exposure to it than liberals? Compare people living in Ontario to those in Alberta. Part of the answer is that people fear what they do not understand. -

Sometimes The Governor General Makes me Proud
Moonlight Graham replied to M.Dancer's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
right exactly. -
I like how the author of that article/chainmail crap (which a dim-witted friend emailed to me once) thinks Jesus Christ is so important, yet goes against most of his main teachings by being a totally intolerant, revengeful person obviously unwilling to "turn the other cheek" or extend "an olive branch" to Muslims. Why do so many Christians not care to even comprehend or follow what his message was? (edited for spelling mistake)

Nah i think it was Lucy who started the whole thing.

Sometimes The Governor General Makes me Proud

The GG is a good morale boost for the troops over there. But the mission is still doomed to fail if they keep focusing on a military solution like they have. The GG is just echoing the company line. -
Global Warming Proven Beyond Shadow of Doubt

I apologize, I don't have the time to respond to all the people here, so.... Then we reduce the waste and harmful technology we use that has caused the problem in the first place. By planet i meant the environment. The biosphere is not adapting to the CO2 levels already. Look at the amount of species that have been negatively affected or went extinct because of it already. It is a dramatic rate that is causing massive harm to the web of life. Yes it's true that 99.99% of all species that have ever existed have become extinct. Life is constantly evolving. However, in my opinion it should be up to natural occurrences to cause the changes, not man-made ones gone out of control. It is morally wrong for humans to do this to so many species of life when it is entirely avoidable. There is little moral difference in a bunch of people driving a gas-guzzling cars compared to rounding up wild animals and shooting the in the face. Same end result. The only difference may be the ignorance of their actions. Unfortunately, there is a direct correlation in the man-produced CO2 in the environment and pollution caused from said CO2. Burning fossil fuels make up a vast amount of the CO2 humans poop into the biosphere, and burning said fuels also pollutes the environment. They are linked. -
You are not politically incorrect, you are factually incorrect (and, in my opinion, also morally incorrect). Your logic is nuts. You find evidence to justify your views, but the logic in your arguments don't add up. You ignore the considerable evidence that conflicts your views. This makes you ignorant. ie: Black neighborhoods in the U.S. aren't filled with crime because black people are violent, they are filled with crime because black people are poor. Poverty is the #1 indicator of crime. Poor white neighborhoods also have high crime. Why are blacks poor? Not because they have inferior intellect, but because they are stuck in a cycle that has pushed black people down (whether diectly or indirectly) for centuries (which is improving but will still take a long time to disappear fully). The average black person in the U.S. makes considerably more per capita than they did 100 years ago. Have their brains evolved to be smarter? No. They have better education, more job oportunities etc. Anyways, you'd do well to go out and actually become good friends with some black people, arabs, and whatever other races who find to be inferior to whites. Might give you a new perspective. Also, please don't have any children & teach them your wisdom. But if you do i hope somebody calls the Children's Aid Society on you for intellectual abuse.

Making a deal 101: When 2 sides can't agree on something, then compromise. This healthcare reform is a very divided issue. If he proposes exactly what he wants, Congress will likely vote it down. I think Obama knows that he may need to make some compromises to the plan so that it can actually get passed & into law. Better to get a plan through that has some of the improvements you want than to get nothing done at all.

Left-wing or right-wing, there's a lot of sex-thristy men out there who cheat on their significant others. Men are men, and unfortunately a % of them are scum. (this is coming from a man, so i know ) -
CPC Campaign Strategy: Fear, Fear and More Fear
Moonlight Graham replied to nicky10013's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'm not a the biggest CPC fan, but the strategies the CPC are using against The Liberals & Ignatieff (questioning Iggy's residency in Canada, and his support for the coalition) IMO are good ones because they will likely work & because they are valid issues. -
How to become an ignorant 101
Moonlight Graham replied to monkeyman's topic in The Rest of the World
Yes. Check the newspapers from the last, oh, couple hundred years. HAHAHAHAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You're kidding me, right? I guess you don`t read the newspapers. How many Westerners have killed Muslims vs Muslims killed Westerners? Who is militarily occupying their countries, who is bombing their people AS WE SPEAK. You are a flat-out racist xenophobe. -

Global Warming Proven Beyond Shadow of Doubt
Moonlight Graham replied to jbg's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
We can start with what Kyoto set out. Get emissions down to pre-1990 levels. But it's not about some arbitrary number. Humans should be trying to behave in a manner that is at least somewhat in balance with their environment. We need to act in ways which do not do significant harm the planet, because we are only harming ourselves. When we chuck pollution into the air, water, and ground we only end up breathing, drinking, and eating it eventually. Logic says keep that crap out of my body. As previously stated, his was just a estimate of the worst-case scenario, not what is most likely. Stephen Hawking is a scientific and mathematical genius. When it comes these matters, he's going to be right a heck of a lot more often than anybody on these boards.
