  1. Progressive Conservatism is an oxymoron, and is therefore doomed to fail based on its impossibility. zing!
  2. This makes no sense. Marriage is basically a legal institution. In all other respects it's symbolic. And there is nothing in the law about having to reproduce or not if you're married. Should infertile people not be allowed to marry? I find the whole gay marriage debate silly.
  3. What happened i see now is that i entered the entire title including "enemies" but the character cap only let me write up to "mid-east". I tried again and erased the space after the colon character ":" and i only got the first letter of "enemies. Will try to correct further.
  4. It's pretty easy to figure out when God is talking to you & telling you his will. I mean c'mon!
  5. I would like to know why Shady, a resident of London, Ontario, gives a hoot about America's credit rating or the drop in value of their dollar. If anything you should be pleased as it will make the Canadian dollar more valuable.
  6. Obama is a big disappointment so far. I never believed he was the the change he advertised, but some of the things he has done (or not done) as BC has listed are just backwards. He has broken many campaign promises already. He probably will close Gitmo, but if the same torture is going on in other U.S. prisons around the globe then it's simply a symbolic gesture. Obama is smart, but a wimp. He doesn't have the chops to stand up to the giant political machine he now finds himself entangled in. Even if Obama followed through on all his campaign promises it still wouldn't have been enough change IMO. He's still 5000x more capable a President than Bush though, but that's not saying much.
  7. Because they are hypocrites and morons just like any Christian from any country, including Canada, who approves of torture. And the death penalty. I could on...
  8. shady, guess you weren't a fan of Reagan, Bush Sr., and Bush's massive debt spending either? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_debt...sidential_terms Reaganomics is total B.S. He racked up more debt than any non-wartime President since before WWII. Even LBJ and Nixon managed to actually reduce the debt despite Vietnam.
  9. NOBODY has the right to kill another human being. Including the state. The death penalty isn't even a good punishment. Why not make them pay back their debt to society by working their fingers to the bone day-in and day-out for the rest of their life? Make them work so hard that they'd rather be dead. Make them work hard and give the money they earn back to the families of the victims. That is justice.
  10. My approach would very arguably have saved lives & probably a trillion+ dollars in the end. I know a few billion people living in poverty who could have used that money for a decent meal. The best defense from Muslim terrorists is to not piss off Muslims by avoiding needlessly bombing them & ripping up their country for their resources. 9/11 happened in large part due to blowback. What is blowback called when the initial provoking aggression is done in front of the whole world to see? War?
  11. Not invading Iraq on the basis of lies would have been a good start.
  12. Even honourable men need to lock their doors at night. Some people, like drugs addicts & hooligans, don't give a poop about honour. I work for the Salvation Army and we have things stolen and broken into all the time.
  13. Speak softly and carry a big stick. Wonderful proverb. Problem with Bush was that he spoke loudly and brashly...and carried a big stick (which he used foolishly). What is the best way to keep other people from hating you and wanting to attack you? It's to give them as little reasons as possible to WANT to hate you and attack you...within reason of course.
  14. Why would Iran use their nukes without severe provocation? Religion and racism is not enough for Iran to launch nukes, they would have to be clinically insane to do so because they know the moment they launched them they would be nuked to ashes by Isreal/U.S. Seriously, can anyone blame Iran for wanting the nukes? The U.S. has invaded & occupied both Arab countries flanking either side of Iran & has nukes pointed at them, and Israel obviously has nukes also (even though they don't admit it). I'm sure Iran is quite eager to defend itself in any way possible. The only huge threat i see from Iran is giving nuclear material to terrorist groups, but if that was ever traced back to Iran...KABOOM bye bye Iran. But of course, it also sucks when their are more nukes in this world. What have we learned in the last 60 years about a country having nukes? It's that having nukes is a deterrent from being invaded militarily and being nuked yourself. If Japan had nukes in 1945 they would not have been nuked. The West was very worried when Pakistan and India acquired nukes also, but was the result? Mostly just sabre-rattling, plus we're seeing reluctance by the U.S. to enter/occupy Pakistan to get terrorists/Taliban. If Pakistan didn't have nukes the U.S. would years ago have had boots on the ground searching Bin Laden.
  15. The ads are dirty and full of lying spin, except for this one which i think raises legit concerns that i have: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BVoT-1B3Os I don't think the Conservatives are running the ads because they are getting ready to call an election (they would be CRAZY to do that, knowing they'd lose seats and possibly their gov't). I think they are just trying to slow the Ignatieff momentum and the Liberals' rise in the polls.
  16. Like Vietnam and Iraq and Afghanistan. Hockey sticks make great weapons.
  17. Our own governments called these people "freedom fighters" in the 1980's during the Soviet invasion. I guess they are only "freedom fighters" when they are killing the people we want them to. If you want to kill all the Taliban, might as well put a gun to our own heads too. We've done far worse to a far greater number of innocents. But i guess the difference between us and them is "why" we've killed children and why have they? We've done it for oil and military contracts. We win! What's funny is that your article doesn't even report that any of the girls were killed, only fell sick & taken to hospital. WE WIN! WE WIN!
  18. Canada just got lucky. Without the American Revolution, Canada wouldn't have had such a peaceful path to "independence". Britain knew Canada would want independence as America did, so Britain cut a deal before major violence occurred so they could keep some of their NA interests.
  19. What is fascinating to me is how America and India both achieved independence from British colonial rule, but in completely opposite ways (violent revolution vs mass non-violent resistance). Gandhi's strategy was ironically the much more Christian route, but nobody can blame Americans for what was historically the status quo (violent resistance). Non-violent resistance may not have even worked in America's circumstances/era. Would be interesting though to see how American and world history would have panned out differently had they used the other method.
  20. Well said. We should still do the same. Take all this money fighting a virtually unbeatable opponent & use it to secure our borders and improve intelligence. A bunch of Taliban are dead, but who cares? They will continue to recruit more members faster than we can train Afghan police/army. And are they even the enemy? No members of the Taliban attacked the U.S. on 9/11, none of the 19 hijackers on 9/11 were Afghans. Where is the real enemy? We've managed to push the Taliban and al-Qaeda from a poor, non-nuclear country and into an unstable, nuclear-armed country. Oops.
  21. It's kind of disturbing that there are people whose #1 political concern is downloading stuff for free on the internet. Same with pro-pot parties.
