Powell Endorsement
Moonlight Graham replied to BC_chick's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Powell was great on Meet The Press, except on the questions on Iraq where he doesn't regret supporting the war, and that everyone in admin thought Saddam had WMD's etc. & he was just working on the best intelligence the CIA could muster. That's B.S. Powell is awesome, minus that part. And his fatal flaw may be in his being too loyal. Sometimes you do need to refuse to follow orders, but i'd find that very hard for him being a lifelong military man. I hope he's just still being the good soldier & not wanting to snitch on Bush & co. after the cards fell. Does anyone have a link where Powell says that he disagreed with the report he presented at the U.N.? -
You have a link about that? From what i've learned, the ACORN scandal has been about lazy ACORN employees who are paid to register as many voters as they can. The lazy greedy ones are making up names/addresses and registering them so they don't actually have to register real voters. The problem with this is that nobody can vote as "Mickey Mouse" or the Dallas Cowboys unless they have a fake ID's saying they are these people. Though id welcome some legit evidence to the contrary. If ACORN really wanted to do voter fraud they are being extremely lazy and obvious about it.

Final Obama - McCain Debate
Moonlight Graham replied to bush_cheney2004's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
i watched about 20 minutes of the debate. I know their policies & where they both stand. These campaigns are much too long. They could easily slice a month or 2 off this broadway show -
Good for a chuckle: http://www.palinaspresident.us/

IMO the Greens and NDP should unite, or the Greens just go away all together. They have proven a rather useless party thanks to Ms May, unfortunately.

Quebec - Shall we kick them out?
Moonlight Graham replied to JerrySeinfeld's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If you wanted to kick out Quebec, just take away all the money & handouts the fed gov't gives them and they would almost certainly vote to separate. I dearly want Quebec to stay, but I'm tired of the gov't giving all of this money to Quebec to appease them and prevent them from separating. They should want to stay because they are a wonderful part of this great country, not because they are being bought. People voting for a party like the Bloc because they represent what is best for themselves, not what is best for the country, is simply wrong. JFK of course said "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country". So what the hell is this? -
Elizabeth May's mixed messages
Moonlight Graham replied to capricorn's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yes, May did sell-out her party. Though it can be argued she did it for the good of the country, in her opinion. Elizabeth May is an odd duck. Why the heck would she run in Peter MacKay’s riding? Did she WANT to lose? She’s ran in a few different ridings around where she’s from in Nova Scotia, plus a by-election in London North Centre, and in the Toronto Star she said she ran in MacKay’s riding because she didn’t want to run against a sitting Liberal or NDP candidate to prevent a Con majority. What the heck? Can this party be taken seriously at all? Why not just join the NDP, Miss May? I respected the Greens, but much not anymore. Along with her hints of wanting supporters to vote Liberal to prevent a Con majority, its obvious she cares more about keeping the Cons from power than gaining it herself. Maybe i should admire her for that? But as the leader of a national party, she shouldn’t crap on her party & supporters she did. -
I don't care about Justin Trudeau. Why do people care so much??? I will judge him based on his ability, not on who his dad was. Until proven otherwise, he's just another young politician.

Give the guy a break, he's obviously hammered drunk because of the election results. Can you blame him? Hopefully he got smashed before he entered the voting booth.

Poll: Palin v. Obama
Moonlight Graham replied to JerrySeinfeld's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Give it awhile. -
I don't really believe the polls for this election have been accurate. Many NDP and Greens & Bloc supporters will switch their votes to Liberal tomorrow to block a possible Con majority, and even a Con minority. You also must factor in the regional distribution of the votes. I really don't know what to expect tomorrow, other than that the Cons will likely win.

Palin - Biden Debate
Moonlight Graham replied to bush_cheney2004's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I have to give Palin credit for dodging potential disaster in this debate. No major screwups. How the heck did she go from those horrendous Katie Couric interviews to her debate performance within a week? She must have spent many late nights the week before the debate being prepped. I like her technique when she didn't understand or want to answer a question, she just ignored it and talked about something else. Good trick. Doesn't change the fact that she is frighteningly uninformed. She is George W. Bush in high-heels. -
Who is Barack Obama?
Moonlight Graham replied to JerrySeinfeld's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
No, she didn't. She said "For the first time in my adult lifetime, I'm really proud of my country." -
I'm disenchanted with the Greens too. I'm so frustrated with all the parties right now that i might just end up voting strategically in my riding to keep the Cons from a majority (my riding is Conservative). Hate doing it, but my head is just spinning with these parties. I agree and disagreee with an equal number of policies with each party.

Why? Because they don't inform anyone about anything. They always now seem to sink to the lowest common denominator, with some politician moronically attacking some other politician with "facts" that are usually lies. Its a waste of money, its a waste of 30 seconds of my life, they do nothing to inform the public but rather skew their opinion with rubbish. Just a thought. Opinions?
-
Exactly. IMO, Palin is the female version of what George W. Bush was as a candidate in 2000. They are both likeable, God-fearing, funny, down-to-earth people who voters would like to sit down and have a beer with, but as politicians they lack the experience & knowledge to have the word “president” in their job titles. Obama has experience issues also IMO, but he's as knowledgeable, intelligent, and of sound judgement as any Presidential candidate of the last 50 years. You would never find him look clueless on a question about a subject as critical & widely known as "the Bush doctrine".

We totally agree. I'm sick of everyone being brainwashed by this "multi-culturalism" crap. I have no porblem whatsoever with immigrants practicing their other cultures & customs, but when they do so without being encouraged to intergrate into Canadian culture it is upsetting. How long until Canada is so "multi-cultural" that we barely have a culture left of our own? Until Canada's culture is defined as having no culture but as a mix of everybody else's? I don't agree with dual-citizenship. Choose your country. If you want to be a ciziten of another country, then give up the citizenship of your former country. Its like getting your cake & eating it too. Yay i'm Canadian.......but if i want i can move back to [insert country here] on a whim then yipee no problems! But that is another subject for another topic for another day.

The commentator is Keith Olbermann of MSNBC, and he is easily one of my favorite members of the American MSM. He is one of the few journalists on any U.S. television network to aggresively & accurately criticize Bush and his administration during the last 8 years. I recommend you go on youtube.com and search "Keith Olbermann special comment". You will not be disappointed. This is one of my favorites.

Its not about xenophobia, its about conflict of interest. I think the fact that she is American, a close neighbour, might be skewing opinions. What if she were born in Italy and became PM, and then Mussolini Jr was born & for whatever reason World War III started & Canada went to war with Italy? Do you not see a possible conflict of interest there? The fact that she has (i assume) dual-citizenship with her former country? The fact that she almost certainly has family living there? Old friends living there? Do you not think that this would influence her decisions? Do you think she would make the same decisions if she did not spend the first 18 years of her life in that country? She also swore allegiance to the flag of the United States of America for 18 years, and unless i'm mistaken she probably still has her U.S. citizenship. Conflict of interest. Just because somebody is a Canadian citizen, it doesn't necessarily mean they are 100% loyal to Canada and Canada alone. I don't care if what i'm about to say isn't "politcally correct", but you can't tell me that, for example, somebody who lived in another country for 40 years but has become a Canadian citizen 3 years ago is as loyal to Canada as someone who has been born and raised in Canada and lived here for 40 years. All people & cases are different, but you get my point. Just my opinion, but i guess if she had a significant chance of becoming PM, word of her foreign roots would be more well-known & Canadians would decide with their ballots if she was worthy to be PM or not. I'm sure it would raise a major stink like it did with Michelle Jean.

Poll: World Wants Obama
Moonlight Graham replied to bush_cheney2004's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I love how much the fact that you can vote for the President and we cannot pleases you. You love it!!! Well, just to spite you i'm moving to Buffalo so i can be a dual-citizen in a decade or however long it takes. Chelsea Clinton for President in 2025 baby!!!! -
Poll: World Wants Obama
Moonlight Graham replied to bush_cheney2004's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
They aren't crazy, just stupid. And to be fair, and stupid isn't just an American trait. There's plenty of morons in Canada too. The unfortunate thing about a free liberal democracy such as the U.S. & Canada is the eagerness of its citizens to exercise their freedom of ignorance. -
You don't see a possible conflict of interest here? Somebody born & raised in another country controlling ours? I wouldn't care if she moved to Canada when she was 2 or 3 years old, but 18? I can't believe how many people have said they don't mind. What if she was born in a country other than the U.S.? Like Saudi Arabia? China? Boggles my mind you people.

Poll: World Wants Obama
Moonlight Graham replied to bush_cheney2004's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Thats not exactly what i meant. I'm not saying Americans should factor into their decision who other countries want them to vote for. Im saying that Americans should take into consideration, at least in part, how their vote will impact other people besides themselves. A decent portion of Americans, it seems clear, only give a hoot about how many U.S. casualties have occured in Iraq and mostly ignore the fact that over 100,000+ civilians have been killed as a result of the war. Thats not an anti-American rip, because the same thing can be said about a decent chunk of Canadians and their views on our role in Afghanistan.
