Earthquake in Toronto ?
Moonlight Graham replied to Michael Hardner's topic in Local Politics in Canada
I felt it in Ottawa, i lasted maybe 5 seconds from what i felt. I thought is was construction on the street outside or something but it lasted too long for that. My mom here in Ottawa said she was in the house and shook really good for like 30 seconds, freaked her out. There's a quarry near my place where they blast rock like once a week with TNT so this didn't really phase me, in fact i thought it was kinda cool. btw the radio said the centre of quake was apparently somewhere in Quebec not too far from Ottawa. Radio also said the news made CNN. Kinda pathetic for a ho-hum 5.0 quake. -
I'm sure most people have heard about this story already. McChrystal bashing Obama and his admin again in a recent Rolling Stone interview. If i were Obama, i would verbally tear into McChrystal behind closed doors and then fire him. Don't give him the dignity to "resign", boot his butt out the door and send a message for anyone else who wants to screw with the Commander In Chief . McChrystal is a General and yet has no respect for his superiors or the chain of command? He should learn a thing or two from Colin Powell, the consummate "good soldier"...unfortunately even to a fault.

Stop this stupid argument. Of course its sadistic. That's what makes it scary and awesome. Here's my comments on the other topic about Chainsaw: I disagree with Bloodyminded, i think the relative was dead, and they just kept them there cuz they were nuts and thought they were still alive. Well that's just what i thought. I also love the scene where one of the teens is hanging around the door to the Leatherface's house and Leatherface just suddenly barges the door open grabs the fool and goes back inside. And of course the scene with the big hook is awesome. Of all the crappy modern remakes of classic horror flicks, i actually though the new Texas flick was done fairly well. They kept to the original concept fairly well, even having John Laroquette voice the intro.

Another amazing villain is the Nazi hunter guy from Inglorious Basterds. He won the Oscar for Best supporting Actor last year, and totally deserved it. He was a total prick, but a real clever jerk too.

The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is probably the scariest horror film ever. I'm a big horror fan, been watching them since i was a kid actually (don't know what my parents were thinking lol letting their 10 y/o kid rent any horror flick he wanted). First watched the movie when i was about 17 with a buddy of mine, about 3/4 the way through i had to shut it off, there was a part where the movie just got freaky with the Chainsaw family sitting at the table, feeding their dead relative blood or something, and a women victim watching all this and just screaming non-stop. I was just like "ok i gotta take a break, this is f'ed" lol. The movie is just so raw and minimalist, virtually no soundtrack/score. A classic.

Greatest post in the history of this forum. How do you remember this story? Were you old enough to remember the weaning, or did you mother tell you this lovely tale? -
Real Atrocities - Up to 2,000 dead in Kyrgyz clashes
Moonlight Graham replied to jbg's topic in The Rest of the World
Yes exactly. The ECOSOC and the Programmes and Funds of the UN along with specialized agencies operating with the UN do some admirable world in the overlooked corners of the world. Maybe the General Assembly will even have some kind of non-binding vote on this displaying its "moral leadership". But UNSC doesn't give much of a poop. Well maybe neighbouring China has some interest in the stability there. 2000 dead, and its likely higher and there will will likely be more killing to come. This is basically 9/11 for the Uzbeks in terms of death. 1 life is equal to another, but not in the power structures of the international community unfortunately. -
Unmitigated Slaugher in Congo - World Condemns Israel
Moonlight Graham replied to jbg's topic in The Rest of the World
It is also because this problem does not affect the West in major big way, beyond the morality of it. Many people, and virtually all states, do not care about things that don't affect them. And as we know well from Rwanda and Darfur, states have no interest in intervening in a situation that wouldn't benefit them. Killings are meaningless unless it affects our security as well. Maybe if more terrorist start taking up camp in Somalia and other African countries, our govs and people in general will actually start to give a fart about instability and war in the continent. -
Natives to win HST concessions from Ottawa
Moonlight Graham replied to charter.rights's topic in Local Politics in Canada
Yeah, i'm thinking the fact us whities completely decimated their race and ripped off much of their land and many of them now live in disgraceful poverty, giving them a bit of tax break won't kill the rest of us. That reminds me, my great-great grandmother was metis so i think i might go get my native status card. HA! -

Unmitigated Slaugher in Congo - World Condemns Israel
Moonlight Graham replied to jbg's topic in The Rest of the World
The death in the DRC is crazy. It's remarkably ignored in the mainstream media. A few articles from time to time in the newspapers, but it certainly hasn't received the attention as something like Darfur, Rwanda, and Somalia etc. Reuters says in an article from 2008 that the conflict up until that time had killed 5.4 million people, the most from any conflict since since World War II. Ballsack! -

Oleg Bach suffers from humaniphobia.
Moonlight Graham replied to Oleg Bach's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
You should hang around more women. In my experience, they are generally nicer than men. Also, they have boobies. Don';t know the details of your suffering, but stay strong bro. You seem like a good person. Humanity as a whole does suck, but there's so many nice individual peeps. -
Comparing solar storms to Katrina is the stupidest thing i've ever heard...this week.

wrong. you're probably thinking of a "state". and Harper already has recognized Quebec as "a nation within a united Canada". -
The government of Canada is the country's largest employer. How...interesting.

The way the gov is handling the spending for this summit is indeed a massive joke. A billion for security, and now 2 million for a fake lake pavilion. These morons are starting to look like the Chretien Liberals, gun-registry style!
-
from the article: Maybe they should find a poll about Katrina around a month and half after the event, rather than 2 weeks. That would be a much more fair and accurate comparison. I'm sure the poll numbers for the oil spill would be different if conducted a month ago.

The Liberal Party Must Be Destroyed
Moonlight Graham replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Wow, the Liberals lose a couple of elections by a minority govt and some Liberals are thinking about self-destruction & complete reorganization? That's like the New York Yankees talking about chaning their name & moving to Orlando after they miss the playoffs a few years in a row. Don't worry Liberals, find a decent leader who has lived in the country most of his life then wait for the CPC to shoot themselves in the foot and you'll be alright. Oh, and please forget about Bob Rae. -
ya i'm wondering about Canada's food now. Probably not much different.
