  1. The phrase "Israel must be wiped off the map" has been attributed to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and has been used by politicians and the media for various reasons, including reasons to be concerned about Iran's nuclear ambitions. However, did he actually say those words? Consider this article by Arash Norouzi: Ok, so how or why did this happen? Interesting.
  2. Polls are useful is you have a large enough sample-size.
  3. Congress has been garbage the past 8 years, no doubt. Obama isn't new to the vetting scene or hiring people for a staff. Obama may not be the most experienced politician, but his team knows how this works and should have known better. But i'm more lenient about mistakes that don't get people killed.
  4. Shady, even though you bring up a good topic to discuss, it's obvious that your posting this stuff is much more an excuse to hammer on someone you ideologically don't like rather than actually caring about political accountability. Where were you the last 8 years?? On the actual subject: All of these people with tax problems Obama has appointed is disappointing and disconcerning. It should be worrisome to all that Obama & his team made mistakes on something so routine and mostly avoidable. I mean just check their taxes man! If Obama made mistakes on simple vetting, what others will he make? However, give him credit for at least admitting these mistakes of his and taking responsibility for them, a big change from the last administration.
  5. I would add ideology to that list. Its certainly not so the "little girl can go to school", thats for sure.
  6. Thats certainly true. Why end the Iraq War or leave (or even ratchet down) Afghanistan? If Obama did that it would be disasterous to the U.S. economy because of the military industrial complex. War is huge business, and business is booming. Someone's gotta manufacture those bombs & bullets. Imagine if instead of spending half the U.S. budget on defense, they spent most of that on education & healthcare? OMG how brutal it would be for the U.S. economy! No joke.
  7. Jesus died for us. We might as well die for him....or make brown people die for him.
  8. A conservative: 1. believes in being self-reliant with as little government intervention in their life as possible. 2. tends to resist change in his/her cultural values/norms. i think that kinda sums it up for me.
  9. Well this a nice suprise from palin. Good for her. However, she still needs to read a lot more books & newspapers if she wants to become President in 2012.
  10. George W. Bush = what my dog coughs up. But at least what my dog coughs up is legal, so maybe i'm being too kind. Score 1 ad hominem for Moonie!!
  11. I agree 100%. Decent speech, but not one of his best. Anyone else annoyed during his speeches when he does that folksy twang thing on the last word of every sentence/phrase? Like "God bless America". It sounds so fake & annoying. Like there's some southern preacher tring to leap out of him or he's trying to sound like small-town America. It was abnormally evident in this speech.
  12. From the Ottawa Citizen. Way to have any sort of open mind there Mr. Layton. What a meat-head. Can't you at least PRETEND to try to work with the gov't? Frustrating.
  13. I agree. Who cares who served more and where and how? There are Generals who have been brilliant and Generals who have been morons, yet they've shared similar types of 1st-hand war experience. In the end, its your ideas that matter, not the tours you've been on.
  14. But it was worth a shot, in my opinion. As i said, if it didn't work then continue to drop nukes on more populated areas until they do surrender. I just think it was worth a shot. On a different note & speaking of kamikaze pilots, it just occured to be that its a strange coincidence that the last 2 attacks by a foreign force on U.S. soil involved crashing airplanes into targets.
  15. There are many freedom-loving demoratic countries in Europe that aren't English speaking. Japan also blah blah i'm not going to get into this argument. I just don't think English as a language is a strong factor for one to be good/evil.
  16. I agree. This solves very little. Israel may get rid of the rockets and some of Hamas, but it will stir more hatred and violence among Arabs in the region and elsewhere toward Jews/Israel, resulting in more deaths and suicide strikes in the future. Its simple math. You cannot defeat an ideology with bombs & missle strikes.
  17. What the heck does than mean??? No it isn't. War is the EXACT OPPOSITE of peace. War is death, murder, suffering, disease, poverty etc. Peace is exactly that - peace.
  18. Your argument is completely insane. In order for less people to die, we must kill more people quicker? I don't think so. In war we should defend ourselves, but also respect human life, especially innocent human life. You really have no idea how to be humane The a-bombs at the end of WWII were handled poorly and inhumanely. What should Truman have done? 1st, detonate an a-bomb in the middle of nowhere (not on a well-populated city) but where its fearsome results could be known to the Japanese, and give the Japanese 24hr to surrender or another will be dropped. If no surrender, drop one on a small town(preferebly a military installation actually) and give another 24h warning. If no surrender, then drop on larger and larger populated areas until surrender occurs. That would have resulted in much less civilian death yet yielded the same result. Maybe it would have taken more time this way, maybe a few more days, but if the U.S. and allies drew back its troops into defensive positions during this time there would have a minimal military casuality during that extra time taken. Also, for someone claiming to be "humane" and the "resident left-wing yank", your signature saying "Freedom speaks English" is so freaking bigoted and xenophobic it disgusts me.
  19. Since this crisis began, 4 Israelis have been killed by rockets fired from Gaza. In the two decades preceding it, 20 have been killed. Not sure what the Arab casualties are now, over 400 for sure and rising, with the U.N. claiming 25% of those being casualties. There is proportionality to consider. Does 4 dead deserve a 400+ bloodspilling and a large ground invasion of Gaza? If this kind of violence is a the result of 4 dead from rocketfire, how will there ever be any peace? Israel at the least should have responded more proportionally. Take out some rocket sites. 20-30 dead? Its impossible to put a number on lives like that, but what is happening now is crazy.
  20. You don't have to formally vote on a resolution to block it. CBSnews.com
  21. From antiwar.com: 2009 is business as usual!
  22. No the funniest part is that you claim Canada irrelevant, and yet you post on a Canadian message board. If we are so irrelevent, why post here? Why not post on a Fiji message board? Or a Trinidad and Tebago message board. Obviously you secretly think we're awesome and hide it under a passive-aggressive veil of neo-con jibberish. You'll never admit it, but thank you we love you too!
  23. Well put. Which is why the whole abortion argument is so contentious and may never end. I see both sides of the debate, and IMO both are legit viewpoints.
