Judges.....two years for murder
Moonlight Graham replied to Handsome Rob's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I disagree, i think it should be a bit less, and definitely a heck of a lot longer than 2 years! -
I'm sorry Shady, its a neat video, but a youtube video stating very little real evidence isn't peer-reviewed science.

Markets plummet from Greece protests
Moonlight Graham replied to Moonlight Graham's topic in The Rest of the World
You don't get rich being stupid. Maybe we are the stupid ones? -
Uhhh...sorry no link, just turn on the news! DOW drops bigtime today very quickly. Man, bailing out big companies first, now bailing out entire countries. This is a crazy, scary globalized world we live in. I'm selling all my stocks, i'm sure that will make things better!

When someone is weak intellectually, they start throwing out these overused labels/buzzwords to describe a policy/person/group or make an argument etc., often without even knowing the meaning of the terms they're using. They usually have something do with Nazi Germany/Hitler or something else now or once feared. some of my favorites: Calling someone: - a Nazi - a socialist - a fascist - a communist (you pinko commie!!) - a terrorist - comparing someone to Hitler (that's original!) - the term "Islamofascist"...wtf??? Ugh...can we put a bullet to this thread now?

Word. I think Obama was a bit slow in acting for sure, but not Bush-Katrina bad.

On Being an Oppressed White Male
Moonlight Graham replied to M.Dancer's topic in Political Philosophy
Huh? Heck no. Like i said, i'm quite privileged to be a white male in a rich country. -
Well i agree that it was symbolic, but i maintain that he did at least in part want to hurt the economy. And he certainly did, although not as much by the actual destruction of the WTC but by the instability the entire 9/11 attacks caused. And it didn't work? Are you kidding me? Who heard of Osama Bin Laden before 9/11? His message was heard loud and clear. He even got the USA to get themselves bogged down in an unwinnable war in Afghanistan. 9/11 is the most successful terrorist attack in history by 1000x from the perspective of the terrorist.

Tories aim to cut $1.7B in spending
Moonlight Graham replied to Dave_ON's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
When (if) Canada pulls out of Afghanistan next year, i'd imagine finding 2 billion in savings would be fairly easy due to that. -
But the Twin Towers were an important economic/political target. A better analogy would be to say that flying a plane into the twin towers & killing innocents is similar in soem respects to a country flying over and bombing a target that also has civilians inside. But there is obviously a difference in wanted strategic outcome.

I'll tell my family about that one then. Thanks! Compared to the military means of a great number of countries, most terrorists, including Osama Bin Laden, are poor in comparison. What do most terrorists, such as al-Qaeda and the IRA, fight with? Some guns and homemade explosives. No F-15's, no tanks, no battleships. Terrorism is simply another means to achieve a political goal through violent measures. Terrorism has no one definition, but its basically the use of fear as means of coercion. You're telling me countries don't do this through conventional warfare? Hiroshima and "shock and awe" anyone?

On Being an Oppressed White Male
Moonlight Graham replied to M.Dancer's topic in Political Philosophy
That video is freaking hilarious, thanks for posting. Its so true. Being a young white male and living in the country that i do is freaking awesome. I mean i really hit the jackpot baby! -
This is a VERY important issue in this whole disaster. There should have been an acoustic backup switch installed to cap the oil in just such an emergency. It costs $500,000 to install one on a rig, but that is peanuts to an oil company and it will cost billions to clean up this mess now. Hopefully, all rigs will now require having one of these backup acoustic switches from now on. A penny's prevention is worth a pound of cure! Aaarrrgg!

Maternal Healthcare and funding for Abortions
Moonlight Graham replied to Keepitsimple's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I agree also with this. We should be more concerned with maternal health than with ideological/political posturing. If a mother is going to die if she does not have an abortion, i don't see a problem with abortions in that case. Rape is a bit trickier, but something that must be seriously looked at as it is rampant in many developing countries. Sticky issue, but the CPC are showing their true colours. -
THIS JUST IN! Archeologists in Egypt just found the tuffet that Little Miss Muffet purportedly sat on! Link!

Dear Canada, thank you for your yucky "socialist" policies that created government banking regulations that have helped save our economy from much of the ravages of this recent recession compared to other countries, and in turn kept the Canadian mutual funds in my portfolio doing quite nicely compared to my other funds.

I agree. This is offensive to pretty much all Muslims, but as you say most will be offended and maybe complain, but not be anything close to violent. I also agree that it is wrong for the media to egg this issue on. I watch South Park, its a great show with smart writing. They are known for poking fun at virtually anyone and offending a lot of people because of it. But this is different. If thought Mohammad is dressed in a bear costume, its still going to get a negative reaction from people and they should just drop it and move it. Fighting this because of "freedom of speech" isn't worth it for them. The dumb thing is that in Season 5, a South Park episode featured a full depiction of Mohammed and there was absolutely no fuss about it as it was done before the Danish cartoon scandal, and the cartoon is still shown in reruns with no fuss.

Exactly, although i'm not sure the CO2 effect is moot. Probably both have a factor in the cooling. Particulate matter cooling the planet has been shown before, and on other planets as well. Mars has periodic dust storms that cover the whole planet, which are not causes by volcanoes but by large winds that whip up dust from the planet's surface. Decades ago, when a NASA space probe went through the storm to the surface, the surface temp was much cooler than what scientists anticipated. This also brought more credence to the "nuclear winter" theory that was receiving attention at the time. Mars dust storms

Does Ath*ism have a future? NEVER!
Moonlight Graham replied to waroftheatheists's topic in Religion & Politics
Putting Kirk Cameron videos on your site isn't going to help your cause. I'm not an atheist, but i think atheism is going to get more and more popular as the decades go by and science explains more of how this universe works and most religions make less logical sense to people. -
