Who Likes To Watch Concerts?
Moonlight Graham replied to AngusThermopyle's topic in Arts and Culture
I've seen some of the G3 stuff on Youtube. I love most things rock and metal, and love guitarists & play myself, but i just can't get much into those 3 guitar "virtuosos". I greatly admire/respect the technical skills of Satch/Vai/Yngwie, but watching them play is like watching a massive musical masturbation orge. I think they're the worst of the progressive-rock genre, they can master every electric guitar trick in the book and play scales up & down the guitar neck at 500mph, but when i try to listen to their songs most of them just suck. They have the skill, but often lack the soul, and seem more focused on showing off how good their technical skills are than making good music. I saw one clip of Vai playing a triple-neck guitar & just wanted to vomit. I dislike Ygnwie the most, i think he's a musical fraud who can play scales at lightning speed but not much else (except worrying about his luscious flowing hair and makeup). I'm actually surprised these 3 guys can tour together without their egos ripping each other apart. Here's exhibit A: G3 playing Hendrix' classic "Voodoo Child (slight return)". Below it is a video of Stevie Ray Vaughan covering the same song, & the man plays it so ridiculously amazing with so much soul & making it his own (more bluesy, doesn't have the same screechy gain sound of Hendrix), the only guy i've seen worthy of doing Henrix' opus justice. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_borQkUgZM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GSpbuFSr2o&NR=1 -
I don't believe so, i know so. And i do own shares. If you can't fix the system, might as well get make money off it like they do.

What happened to that so desired reform?
Moonlight Graham replied to Benz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Bingo. As you said, look what happened the last time the Constitution was opened up. Its just not worth it, not any time soon anyways. Quebec isn't even the only problem, as some provinces favour abolition over an elected senate. Harper has found the senate useful for his agenda, so why would he mess with a good thing when he can just continue acting like a dick? -
It would interesting to at least give them a shot. Can't be much worse than Iggy and co.
-
Any change to our constitution is "unCanadian" and "treason"? Are you against the Statute of Westminster? Do you still want Canada's foreign policy determined by Britain? Are you against everything in the Constitution Act, 1982? Women didn't have suffrage in Canada at the time of Confederation, are you against those changes? Canada's constitution has undergone many changes since Confederation. It is an ever-evolving "living tree" as many describe it, not something written in stone at the outset like the US constitution. Senate reform has been on the table and been widely discussed as well as implemented since shortly after Confederation. If anything, NOT talking about and/or implementing Senate reform is unCanadian and against our heritage.

Who Likes To Watch Concerts?
Moonlight Graham replied to AngusThermopyle's topic in Arts and Culture
If i can get good tickets, or i like a band enough to wait in line before the concert to get a front-row floor spot, i love live concerts for big acts. Love live music for smaller club acts too. But i also love watching live filmed concerts on TV/DVD. The worst thing about going to a big concert is the sound, its usually a muffled mess. Sound on DVD concerts are fantastic, and of course you always have a front-row seat! I'm constantly watching live performance footage of different acts on Youtube. But i own a bunch of live DVD's, like the Led Zeppelin self-titled DVD with classic footage of them, Neil Young's "Rust Never Sleeps", Metallica's "Cunning Stunts" and "Binge & Purge" boxset, among others. I find since youtube came on the scene and torrents, i don't buy many anymore. Recently been watching classic live Stevie Ray Vaughan stuff on YouTube. I'm not sure i've ever seen a better live guitar performance that his 1983 "Texas Flood" below. The entire song is like a 9-minute solo! -
Why do the Harper Conservatives dislike students?
Moonlight Graham replied to Harry's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You has Shady Derangement Syndrome. -
It's a sad reflection on the Liberal party that Bob Rae seems to be the frontrunner to replace Iggy. If Rae wins the leadership he'll probably be another lame loser like Dion and Iggy. I doubt Ontario would want to vote for the guy, unless they have short memories. What happened to the federal Liberal party? Where are some half-decent leaders among them? Just wow.

Elected lawmaking officials is "unCanadian"?? Personally i don't care if an "ideal" is from the US or Zimbabwe, it should be judged on its merits not where its supposed origins lie. The Senate has a few good uses, but mostly its a useless tit of an institution filled with overpaid elite hacks who only work 3 days a week. Best job in Canada. Needs some kind of reform. An elected Senate doesn't have to be one them, less major reforms could improve it without reopening the Constitution.

Whats the difference between this guy and anybody on this board? Besides the leather jacket. Just some dude with an opinion saying things i've heard many times over.
-
I'm not a conservative.
-
Hey, Iggy's talking points are already working on one person!
-
I agree. While watching i'm thinking "why are you here?". I wonder if any non-french speaking person has ever voted for the guy.

CBC said Iggy wasn't absent 70% like Layton said, the number was 56% i believe.
-
I thought Iggy did very well actually, the best of them all. I thought he got in a lot of good digs & always had Harper on his toes. Ya he was yelling a lot but it didn't bother me. I thought he did particularly well on the democracy digs. But i must admit he really didn't really sell me on much, he was on the attack all night rather than selling me his vision. Harper did a pretty good job defending himself against the obligatory attacks by all comers. Could have done better though, he rarely went on the offensive, he should have turned things around on people more rather than constantly responding to attacks. He also looked like a total GOOFBALL while listening to one the other guys blast him. Deer in headlights. Layton was meh. Must be pale from the cancer or something because the man has makeup over his entire face/head, even over his scalp. Duceppe was hit and miss, might be the language thing. VERDICT: Harper defended himself well enough for this debate not to be much of a game-changer.
-
New drinking game: Every time Layton says the word "bling!" when talking about gang crime, take a swig! Bling lol, please somebody put that on youtube!

I'm finding Iggy's hand gestures very hypnotizing. He's always grabbing & pulling with his hands.

Also, you can believe in God and evolution at the same time. Just because someone doesn't believe in the hogwash campfire tale that is Genesis, it doesn't mean one is disqualified from believing in God, or Jesus, or anything else really.
-
Your whole process of logic & seeking truth is flawed. You reached the conclusion of believing in God & creationism first, likely since you were a child, and now afterward you seek to find evidence to support your preconceived conclusions. One does not find truth this way. Truth is found by looking at all the evidence FIRST, then reaching conclusions afterward, not the other way around. This isn't any different than Lictor, who was most certainly raised in a racist environment, and then sought "scientific" support for his preconceived racist conclusions.

Exactly. If we aren't supplied oil from Libya, wouldn't that be a great reason to attack the old regime? Many European and NATO countries DO get oil from Libya, and Gaddafi has in recent times threatened to cut off oil access to Western countries. But not Russia and China of course!

Ignatieff's Wife is Not Canadian Citizen
Moonlight Graham replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Word. But we'll come and spend millions to bring you back to Canada during a crisis, pay for your social services, and then when the crisis is over you just leave again. I can't blame these people, but i can blame the stupid policies that let's this crap happen. I'm not a big fan of dual-citizenship. In a world anarchic world system of sovereign states dominated by an ideology of nationalism, people should have to choose their flag, formally pronounce their loyalty, and be done with it. -
The big oil companies are well among the most profitable and highest revenue companies in the world. They are ripping us off and laughing all the way to the bank (the big banks are among the most profitable companies and are ripping us off too, BTW). Obviously, they are charging an arm and a leg for their product, and consumers should have access to better prices. They love any excuse to raise the prices...again. But we have little power to do much about it seems.
-
No to both. But if want to lead the country & steer the formation of its policies/laws, actually living in it seems like a logical requirement.
