  1. Maybe a good piece of reform would be to make digital cameras standard issue so more of these idiots can keep incriminating themselves
  2. Well, i respect a good ground game. I`m just saying that for me, and i think most people being honest would say this too, that watching guys pound each other is more exciting (whether standing up or on the ground - ie: i loved the Chael Sonnen-Silva fight even though it was mostly on the ground but lots of action). I never say "boo" when s fight goes to the ground. But some fights GSP gets guys on the ground and pins them, and doesn't finish. I'd preferably like to see a submission or a ground-and-pound TKO/KO if you're going to the ground all match. One thing with UFC is that it's taken itself away from the "reality" of fighting for the sake of viewer interest. I agree with rules based on the safety of the fighting for sure, but why should the UFC have rounds? In a real fight, there are no rounds breaks, save by the bells, cut men in the corner. The UFC used to have no rounds and no time limits, it was fight until there was a winner. Though i guess 90 minute matches are completely ridiculous when you think about it. But i don't see why guys can't stand in there for 25 minutes without a break.
  3. The center is determined by clicking "maybe". I clicked "maybe" on all responses and got dead center bullseye on the scale. I don't think this quiz is fully accurate, but seems to work ok.
  4. Just did this test again after a couple years. I'm: Economic: -4.25 Social: -5.54 Before i think was about -4 / -4.5. I noticed my views have become stronger/solidified, i was answering a lot more "strongly agree/disagree' than before. So i'm almost exactly where the Dalai Lama is, which is dandy by me.
  5. I must have just caught the end of the story i saw on TV. I thought this was a newly discovered incident, not one related to something from a while ago. I'm glad some of these people are being put in jail for this and they are indeed being held responsible. This story makes you wonder just how often civilians are murdered by soldiers in more discrete circumstances, without the big conspiracy of the group that acted together in this case, ie: a soldier or two acting in isolation & taking out a civilian or two, or more if they are fighting the enemy at the same time, and nobody knowing the wiser. It also makes me wonder what kind of atmosphere was cultivated by their command over there. I'm talking about reform because maybe there are ways when this kind of thing could be better prevented. This wasn't a case of just 1 or 2 guys going crazy.
  6. He's an excellent striker. However it's kind of moot if we're talking a GSP-Silva fighter. GSP isn't a great knockout striker so he'd be a fool to stand with Silva, so it would be GSP going for takedowns all match. Then again, Silva wouldn't be a fool (or would he? lol) so i'm sure in a GSP-Silva fight Silva would (or should) work his butt off on his takedown defense. Hopefully his cockiness wouldn't take over and he'd ignore this weakness. The one thing i don't like about Silva, besides his cockiness and ring antics, is that he's a bit of a coward & afraid to get hit. He starts up some of his antics trying to divert attention from the fact that he doesn't want to strike first and leave himself open. Remember his last fight last month when he just stood in the ring in the 1st round circling Belfort for like a minute waiting for him to attack first.
  7. Great point, i forgot about the Koscheck fight. GSP completely mangled his face with those jabs and he was so fast and accurate Kos could do nothing to stop it. I think GSP is the more well-rounded fighter than Silva. Like i said, Silva's takedown defense is sloppy and he is somewhat sloppy overall, his amazing natural athletic ability has made him cocky and he makes enough mistakes & provides openings to leave him vulnerable to a fighter of GSP's caliber to take advantage of. GSP is a perfectionist. He gets mad at himself for every little mistake he makes in a match, even when he wins. That gives him a good advantage since he's never sloppy. But i just love Silva. So exciting to watch. GSP is awesome, but he's more boring and he doesn't finish, he's such a perfectionist that he's too afraid to make a mistake by going for a big hit that could miss and leave him open. That's why i think Silva vs Bones Jones would be so exciting because they are both athletic freaks and aggressive, but also sloppy where they each make mistakes. 2 very similar fighters. I would be afraid of GSP squirming on top of Silva on the mat for 5 rounds.
  8. Some say yes, others say no. Your thoughts? Here's an article about it. I initially thought Obama needed to consult Congress but i'm not an expert on the U.S. Constitution, and here is an article in the Washington Post from two people who served under Reagan and Bush Sr. that argue Obama doesn't need Congress's approval (apparently the U.S. has not officially declared war on Libya, which would need congressional approval...or some such reasoning) However, what is hypocritical of Obama is what he said in 2007: Hmm ok...this coming from a man who was a constitutional law professor. Also hypocritical are some of these Republicans who are jumping on Obama about it. Where were most of these people under Bush Jr & all the crap he pulled?
  9. Disgusting photos. Hopefully some kind of non-b.s. investigation will look into this matter, and those responsible will be be held accountable and some kind of reform implemented. I want to know how high in the chain there were people who knew about this kind of behaviour and did nothing about it. There sure are some sick sons of biatches in this world.
  10. A very short clip of Global News' Mark McAllister talking about Canada's military involvement in Libya: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1LNzIYUO3E Personally, i have also seen other sources that back up the Defense Minister McCain-McCloud's claim that sifty-four 18 fighter jets, but i highly doubt these jets are spending about 20. But i think he should have expanded more on his note about the hues of the garbons of today. So do you agree/disagree with McAllister's take?
  11. I think our willingness to intervene has a heck of a lot more in what our own interests are in the conflict rather than whether or not there are nearby military bases. I agree, we should intervene in some. But choose which one's for the right reasons. If anyone thinks our intervention has much of anything to do with "saving civilian lives" they are out to lunch. Libya vs Darfur, hmmmm. It's about regional interests, and its about what massively powerful lobby/interest groups who have a stake pressure our governments to do.
  12. You do realize that peacekeeping missions occur AFTER conflicts are over. They also need permission of the host country. Peacekeeping is great, but Western countries almost never get involved in "hot" conflicts & put their butt on the line for "humanitarian" reasons. Where did i say this was bad, or make any judgment on it? I'm just stating what the article i linked stated. It didn't state "producer" or "exporter". "Libya is the largest oil economy in Africa, ahead of Nigeria and Algeria. It holds at least 46.5 billion barrels of proven oil reserves (10 times those of Egypt). That's 3.5% of the global total. Libya produces between 1.4 and 1.7 million barrels of oil a day, but wants to reach 3 million barrels. Its oil is extremely prized, especially with an ultra-low cost of production of roughly $1.00 a barrel." I don't know what the author is using as the judge for "oil economy". Maybe in terms of reserves, which it is #1.
  13. This war and this UN resolution is mostly about oil. You can also say it's about "regional and international strategic interests", but most of that has to do with oil as well . It certainly isn't about "human rights" or "protecting civilians". Where were you UN/Western states in the several decades previous to this during most of the other civil wars and countless human atrocities occurring within other African countries. The US and different European countries have supported Gaddafi and his regime going back a long time. But when the US and other NATO countries had already severed ties with Gaddafi and he was threatening to decimate the rebels, it was time they stepped in because they had lots to lose if Gaddafi remained in power, and lots to gain by supporting the rebels and whatever new gov is formed. OIL - Gaddafi has threatened to stop oil exports to Western countries. Libya is the #1 oil economy in Africa (3.5% of total world supply...the vast majority of it going to EU countries). Libyan oil is also very cheap to produce. China and Russia abstained from UN Res 1973 mostly because Gaddafi has friendly relationship with them and has not threatened to cut off oil to them. China receives a good chunk of oil from Libya. China and Russia also abstained rather than vetoed likely because they didn't want to cause huge friction among the global powers. Here's a good article on this, as well as the Arab League dimension.
  14. I think it would be the former. If Chael Sonnen can pin Silva to the mat for 4.5 rounds, imagine what GSP would do. Silva's takedown defense is really sloppy.
  15. The entry for "Socialism" has a picture of Hitler giving the salute right at the very top of the page. Not Marx or Mao or Lenin...Hitler. I LOVE IT!
  16. Oh man, i take it back. This Consverapedia is hilarious! It needs to stay just for the laughs. Here the first sentence for Barack Obama's page: "said to have been born"... I mean, there's a place for that debate, but in the 1st sentence? They totally lay into him throughout his entry page. Go check out the entries on "abortion" and "ex-homosexuals". This website is the greatest!
  17. Exactly. Exactly who gives a whoop if it's "more conservative than the American public" (and btw i would highly contest that "6x" number)? It's not meant to be an American wiki written only by Americans. It's written by people across the globe for people across the globe. This is more just more nonsense from this group of conservatives who feel the need to spin their media to whatever ideological drivel they wish to impart on people or believe themselves. Wikipedia isn't accurate, because as people have said, it's written/edited by amateurs. If you want the most accurate info, hit the library and read something peer-edited.
  18. Evans is going to die. His last fight against Rampage was a joke. Evans goes for wins on points and waits out the clock, a boring fighter. Will be fun to see him actually have to fight against somebody who will aggressively come at him with everything like Jones will. I want to see a match between any of GPS/Silva/Jones. Preferably the first two of course.
  19. This thread is a joke. Nothing at the UN has changed. Countries are still self-serving. Obama hasn't miraculously turned the UN into some kind of beacon of humanitarian solidarity. It's mostly about oil, and about power as always. If another Darfur or Rwanda happened again right now the UNSC would still do almost jack all.
  20. word. Though i wouldn't really say it would be trivial. More like morally soul-destroying to help any of the major parties.
  21. postpone what election? US election???
  22. The wording of the resolution is interesting: This is, all measures excluding occupational forces. But you can bet covert ground forces from various countries are making their way to eastern Libya as we speak, if they haven't been there already of course.
  23. This Sat. March 19 at UFC 128 its a light-heavyweight title fight: Shogun Rua VS Jon "Bones" Jones. Jones is an absolutely incredible young phenom and so exciting to watch, could be the next Anderson Silva. This kid is 21-1, and at only 23 years old he already has a title shot in the UFC's toughest division! Can't wait!
  24. holy alarmism of this poll, Batman! Big earthquakes, tsunamis, and hurricanes aren't coming to shake down our reactors any time soon. GO NUKES!
