Wow, those FLQ dudes must be pushing 65-70 years old nowadays. That they have been unheard from in 40 years and show up now boggles the mind even more. Weird I say weird. Interesting point about the War Measures Act too.

Oh, do I hear you, when my stepsister got married, her brother actually thanked their long dead mother for looking after the wedding planning and making sure it all went well, with sobs and tears of agreement coming from the bride. Of course there was not a nod of thanks to those who actually made it happen, their stepmother and me, their stepsister. This was 20 years ago, and it cost over 40k then, and my stepsister did not even live where it was taking place, so it literally was all left up to us. The only thing she did was pick out her wedding dress and what colours she wanted to use out. People are getting smarter though weddings rates are dropping.

Well, we humans really do not care about violence existing in the world before we came about do we! One could safely say it is only the violence that comes about now we are here that concerns us. And quite obviously violence has been mitigated and lessened all through our history up to today. Common sense says, there can not be 1 absolute resolution, to stop every act of violence, however, that does not mean we do not know what causational factors there are that need to be removed in order to mitigate violence. However, just because there is not 1 singular way to stop violence does not mean it should not be taken seriously and addressed. Moreover, because it has been addressed, by us darlings on the left, and crimes of violence have been steadily going down. Too bad you did not look at the Stats presented in the links, or read the whole thread or you would've have been able to see the fact of decreasing rates of violence. -
Socrates Here's the thing, I acknowledge I don't know everything that is going on in Afghanistan. However based on what I have read I feel that to pullout right away would be akin to leaving the sheep to the wolves. Afghanistan is far from becoming a plural democracy, however to abondon any hope or possibility would simply imperil the future of those Afghan's who wish to see it happen. Oh, RAWA leaves out the male voices in Afghanistan? You said, we were there for the women remember? Now who are those other varying opinions? As we KNOW the Taliban numbers are increasing, that is the various other (male) voices telling NATO they are not liking what is going on. That leaves the other opinions not being mentioned would be those of the foreigner installed Karzi corrupt government. I have before noted where you were wrong numerous times no worries I am sure I will continue to do so. Yes, I have actually read Socrates dissertations and books, not just pulled a quote. You seem not to realize the important thing here is, that it is the Afghans who wish to see it happen and they think the west is imperiling their chances. http://www.rawa.org/rawa.html Your thoughts are colonialistic regarding sheep wolves, and what you actually mean is you believe they cannot do it for themselves and that someone else has to do it for them. However, they seem to think they are far better off on their own with the Taliban who only kill 2 civilians a day as opposed to 63 a day ny NATO and the Karzi government. http://www.rawa.org/events/dec10-06_e.htm Oh forgot to add, seeing as how 18 US troops were killed in Iraq today and things appear to be esculating, as we speak, I would feel safe to bet that the "Iraq surge" is going to come faster than one thinks and that the "task force" aka battle group, will be leaving Afganistan even sooner. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/6282839.stm

Oda not welcome at provincial meeting on women's issues
Catchme replied to Catchme's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Those who believe in NO choice, cannot be combined with those who know that women have the right to self determine. Simply does not work that way. Choice = 64% 23% believe in abortions up to 3 months, in actual fact the poll should have specified 4 months as that is the first trimester used in Canada. 10% believe in abortions up to 6 months 30% believe in abortions from conception to birth. Anti-choice who believe in NO abortions = 31% The 31% stands alone. End of story. Anti-choice is Anti-Choice, you cannot compare apples and oranges nor add them together to make a sum that you want. That is what double speak is actually. According to the poll results this is the way it should have been worded in synopsis: 23% of Canadians believe that abortion access should stay exactly as is 10% of Canadians believe that abortion access should be increased to 6 months 30% of Canadians believe that abortion access should be increased to time of birth In conclusion, 40% of Canadians want abortion laws changed in Canada beyond the current 1st trimester access. 23% want NO change While 31% want changes to no access to abortions. Remember NEVER add choice %'s to no choice %'s it does not work. -

You falsely state that men are more severely victimized than women, there is absolutely NO proof to your assertations. In fact quite the opposite. The good news is the most recent Stats Can available, show murder rates in Canada have gone down because there are less women being murdered. http://www.statcan.ca/Daily/English/040929/d040929a.htm Now in regards to spousal assault: http://www.statcan.ca/Daily/English/061002/d061002a.htm http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2006/10/02/statscan.html -

No, yet again, I know you are only pretending to be less than intelligent, as you failed to post the whole poll, but here its is yet again: the majority think abortions should be available straight from conception until birth. 23% stated they believe in abortions up to 3 months. A figure up 2% from last year actually 10% stated they believe in abortions from conception to 6 months Also a figure up 1% from last year 30% stated they believe in abortions from conception to the point of birth. A figure down 3% from last year So, in fact the majority of Canadian according to the poll would want the abortion access expanded in order to have abortions available in Canada long after 3 months from conception. here is your link again http://www.angus-reid.com/polls/index.cfm/...em/itemID/13756 -
Don't know, never been proven wrong, unlike others who make such an accusation. Already stated madmax's article was more current, and therefore maybe be new information on the ground and even why his info may be correct. But I will remember this little conversation in a couple weeks and say; "I told you so" again. Plus, get off the trashing of my links, I could've easily trashed madmax's as military propaganda for example, I didn't, as I do not need to attack such things to try and stay on message. Now have you looked over RAWA's site a bit and thought about what they had to say? Here is some more info from their site:
-
Do you have an article, proof, something to back up that the USA is pulling a battle group out of Iraq? In fact, I have information suggesting the opposite. Well, your article's date is more current than mine was, I believe it was dated the 10th or 12th of January. And that's good, if true, as the article, that I posted part of, said because of the intell they were going to have meetings to try and prevent the shift and perhaps try to get more in. Sounds like they did. But when reading your snip, I would not be sure of what is going to happen because of these 2 comments: And because the article I posted about and linked to, I believe stated Gates was unwilling to add more and that it was he who wanted the group taken out and sent to Iraq.
-
Gawd, why do I even bother posting things here, if people don't read the whole thread anyway. It is in this thread, a ways back. I am not going looking for it again either, the article said in a matter of weeks one would be pulled from Afghanistan to go to Iraq. It was a concern, the article said, because it was from an area that the intell said the Taliban were planning on attacking. hmmm, now I think about it, it might be in the other thread we are discussing Iraq/Bush on. I posted it yesterday or the day before. Or maybe it is a couple pages back here, oh well happy looking... if I stumble across it again, I will repost it.

Oda not welcome at provincial meeting on women's issues

Don't care what the paragraph says LOOK at the stats 31 % believe from conception onwards that a fetus should be protected, all others, 63% in fact, say they approve of abortions, except the 6% unknown. 40% of that 63% believe in abortions from 3 months on to birth. According to the poll results, the many who want changes are the 40% who want abortions legal after the first trimester to birth of the fetus. -

TRY READING THAT POLL AGAIN 63 % APPROVE OF ABORTIONS 40 % FROM 3 MONTHS ON. -
If someone is mentioning that we are making mistakes, that is making it easier for the Taliban to gain support, vs erode Taliban support, and they view the Taliban as the enemy, I would take these comments very seriously and not brush them off as silly girls. Your're absolutely correct madmax. It' amazing that they would try to discount and minimize the voice of Afghan women. The very people they have alleged they are there to give voice to. Seriously, it is no wonder, things have gone from bad to worse. Now with the USA pulling out a battle group to send to Iraq, who knows exactly how worse is worse going to be.

This is a multi-faceted issue. Pain and suffering short circuits developing minds. Too many parents can go over board with abuse and spanking. Then again, too many parents see thir children as angels when they are not. Too many parents let their own intolerances be exposed to their children, those children in turn think it is ok to voice and act upon their own intolerances.

Hmmm....I see you edited the original assertion that CANDUs had very little to do with India's and Pakistan's program development. Well hell, Canada had even more to do with nuclear weapons development in the US and Britain, providing raw materials for nuclear fuel / weapons cycles, including DU! I love CANDUs...a very smart design. Anyway, I love to battle with posts at ten paces...here is one of my most favorite CANDU mocks....from Canadians themselves: CANDU (Sung to the tune of "I've Got the Horse Right Here" from Guys and Dolls) Written by Alison Acker of the Victoria Raging Grannies and Gordon Edwards, president, CCNR Sure did, thought it was too strong of a comment! Oh, I love the rager grannies, have heard them sing it many a time. In fact, at my own organized events. Totally agree with with you Canada's nuclear supply, and Candu's could be better technology than fossil fuels, it just is where one puts them.

Not sure what Pakistan has done to the West....unless you mean using Canada's nuclear reactor technology (like India) to build the Bomb. LOL! Were did you get that figure, I never found it in the poll? Guess you must have just copied and posted the link and copied and pasted the poll from somewhere else then, as I got that info straight from the link you provided, and it came right before the poll question you presented, on the same page even. Here ya go here is your link again, have a look around you may learn something. http://www.angus-reid.com/polls/index.cfm/...em/itemID/13756 -
Oh dear, you just have to stay on message eh, nice try relegating RAWA to the level of a news agency. The fact that you tried such a thing is sickening in itself, discounting the voice of women in Afghanistan is incomprehensible. If you are military in Afghanistan it is no wonder they want you gone. For those that did not know RAWA IS NOT a NEWS agency, nor is it operating from afar. It is the voice of AFGHAN women who have been fighting, in Afganistan, and around the world, since 1977, against all odds for their freedom and rights. Madmax's post hits it quite clearly.

CPC Jeopardized Canadian Security At Home

Oh please, do tell us who you feel is is NOT rational amongst the NDP MP's? When one watches QP, the only rational people one sees is the NDP, the rest are screaming and throwing slurs and lies around. Further, Jack is quite the opposite from radical, or he would not have been President of the Federation of Municipalities for as long as he was. In fact, one could say Harper is more radical than Jack, because of his history with the NCC, and his "global warming is just a myth" philosophy. And just what 3rd way are you speaking of/ -

That is a completely disengenuous snip off of the rest of that poll, and the poll its self is mis-representative of the facts on the gound so to speak. The rest is: In your opinion, at what point in human development should the law protect human life? From conception on 2006 31% 2005 30% After three months of pregnancy 2006 23% 2005 19% After six months of pregnancy 2006 10% 2005 11% From the point of birth 2006 30% 2005 33% Not sure 2006 6% 2005 6% 63% of Canadians view abortion favourably, 31 % do not. In fact, 40% believe abortions should be accessible after 3 months. First of the facts on the ground making the poll you posted redundant are: The abortion laws in the USA are completely different than Canadian. There are no partial birth abortions in Canada. There is NO abortion after 1st trimester unless it is to save mother's life. Drs in Canada, tell fetal development, in case of all surgies the person is given possible side effects and complications, including abortions. Releases must be signed by the patient saying the patient was fully informed. The admitting nurse goes over it again with the patient after the Dr has. There is NO point to having ultra sounds at less than 3 months as the fetus is too small. Alternatives to abortion are known through sex education in schools, through the Dr and nursing staff, and after all there is only 2 others. But really, what is going on is between the individual and their Dr, it is rights of privacy and self determination no one else has a say. -
That they are part of the International Democrat Union [Conservative and CDU parties in the world], and are considered conservatives or conservative thinkers. I also noticed the former Progressive Conservative party was on that list. So that doesn't really prove a thing. As well Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is more liberal than most Republican's, so I would say that Harper would be considered more liberal among the people there. Yes, well that PC Party of Canada was whom again? Oh yes, Peter MacKay. And of course it does, only the sublimely obtuse would say otherwise.

Bush's Canadian 'Clone' in Jeopardy
Catchme replied to Catchme's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
How conveinent that you forgot the discussion is about Harper being a Bush clone, and how he had US Republican advisors that you denied he had. All this has been giving you more evidence that indeed he has for a good long time.
