  1. I fear this more than all the above. Ignorant people who do not search out answers are eventually owned by the establishment who spits out the disinformation. Those to me are part of glamour, people chose to live in wilfull ignorance, and will at all cost spread disinformation to maintain "surface" living within their little world and ignore consequences. I.e. colonialistiic and patriarchial ideology, denial of environmental destruction, the wrongness of war, corporate control of the world, etc....
  2. So the US should just bail on everyone and let the slaughter begin??? Get over yourself already. I took your side at the beginning of the war, I didn't think it was a good idea. So yay, we were right. Now move on, and realise that the situation at hand needs a solution. And running away to create another Somalia isn't a reasonable solution. The slaughter began when the USA invaded Iraq illegally based on lies. It cannot begin after the fact. Juxpositioning Iraq with Somalia isn't a reasonable one. The US should NOT have been there and should not be there.
  3. I can't understand how you can spin a tax cut for the wealthy under the false appearance of a childcare plan into a left-wing attack on the rich. Your family should have spent more on your education and less on charity.
  4. Politicians are not paid to spout their own beliefs, and have them stand for anything, they are there too respresent the voters who are from ALL walks of life. Their comments should be within the contextual laws of the land and not as a platform from their own bigoted belief system. Don't imagine he campaigned upon "I hate homosexuals" now did he? Parliamentary priviledge does NOT extend to bigotry, nor the breaking of any of the Laws of the Land such as making bigoted, sexist or racist comments, actually kimmi. He is accountable to the Human Rights Commission, they up hold the laws of the land in breaches of HUMAN RIGHTS kimmi. Even if his whole voting district were bigots, that does not give him the right to breach the laws of the land by expressing bigoted personal opinion. The voters would be in the wrong as well if they wanted him to. A politicians duty is to adhere to the Laws of the Land, in ALL areas, and represent ALL voter demographics NOT a select few and to act upon the mandate as expressed in their campaign.
  5. One bad mistake? One bad mistake? Hardly. True recklessness is/was going into a country and destroying it based upon lies, and then compounding it over and over again.
  6. The American troops as a fact of matter is all that's holding togethers a fragile, but democratic, regime. The country that the militarized Sunni terrorists will get is another of oppression of Shiites and the Kurds. That's simply not acceptable. When the police leave town, shit hits the fan. I don't see why this wouldn't apply in Iraq. The government could not possibly maintain whatever remaining semblance of order remains on it's own. Do you realise what your thinking has created in Somalia? The only people that militarized the Sunni terrorists was the USA in the first place under Saddam remember? Riverwind is correct about saying they are wrong about this just as they were when they destroyed the country in the first place. The police in your little analogy don't NOT belong to the country in question, thereby rendering your compare erroneous. Commentary on the type of thinking re Somalia, is way off base.
  7. Well now, that's quite the strawman isn't it. Put up an false compare example and then kick it down! Good job! LOLOLOL
  8. Now there is a good point. Looking after self interests, much like trying to keep dual citizenship even though you stated you were fleeing persecution and government interefernce. Now, I wonder how many came back from Mexico and Paraquay to get in on this cheap land scoop up? Also, why have they broken with there pacifism ideology nowadays?
  9. I'm not a Liberal and I don't agree. MP's on Parliament's business should not have restrictions put on their movements by the government. This is an official all party committee sent by Parliament. There is an important principal here and as much as I like what O'Connor has done for our military, I think he is wrong on this one. Absolutely correct wilber on all accounts. The commentary of the person you responded to, is a red herring argument. France has nothing to do with this at all, and the military's approval of O'Connor means little.
  10. Are you an FN person? No, WASP, my husband is Miq' mah, as is my daughter. And we do belong to the Assembly of First Nations.
  11. Unpatriotic, ya think? Guess you have never heard of the right to free speech. Isn't it interesting how free speech, and dissent against bad government actions, is now un-patriotic? That is what is really at stake!
  12. Well seeing as it is all the white guys that think nothing is wrong with it, I find it laughable that I am accused of being white and thinking it was wrong. And how nice of all the white people to say FN's don';t mind they 've heard worse.
  13. Martin certainly wasn't against terrorism. It took 3 hrs and 31 minutes Fortunata. No too shabby, I thought longer! It would be hoped that the Muslim community would campaign against the CPC, MacKay's actions and comments were reprehensible while in Israel, as well as Harper telling Peter to say his government backs Israel unequivocally. Not only that Harper's and Ablonzy public stance on Arar and basically broad brushing Muslims into all being terrorists are more than enough reason to campaign against the CPC alone, let alone the latest faux pas in foreign relations.
  14. That is absolutely hilarious, there is no "love it or leave it" refrain. They left, no one is saying if you don't like it leave. They were the ones who left, no one told them to go. No one is saying now if you don't like it leave. Sloppy logic in making such a juxposition. Almost as sloppy as attacking the poster instead of discussing what the underlaying factors are here in a real and honest way. Very reasobably, I asked; why did they want to come back? what was the driving force bringing them back? why did they want dual citizenship? These are questions to be asked and it appears some do not like it. There are reasons and motives why people do what they do. Just as there are reasons why people want be selective, as kimmi suggested, about who comes here based upon racial/cultrual profiling.
  15. Wow, discussing the poster as opposed to discussing the topic, how novel. LOLOLOL And kimmi was quite right to point out the racist sentiments of calling some illegal while not calling others the same, who are exactly in the same situation. It matters not how they got to it. But rather that they are illegal citizens in Canada according to our laws. As for her ficticitious conversation used as an attack against me, lolololololol! Go kimmi goooooooooo!
  16. You are exactly correct saturn! And people need to remember exactly why Harper as complying so readily. That is not saying Arar did not deserve compensation, as he did, and the sum well that is up for dispute I guess for me. As I am still thinking about it.
  17. Well you did better explaining what I was getting at than me, so do not think you made a hash of it. For me, feminism is not just a female liberation from anrrowly defined roles for females but liberation fo rmen as well. Example being, back in the 80's, when BC was having lay offs and downsizings, we decided that instead of my husband finding a new job at a very low wage, we would be better off if he stayed home as a househusband. As, I was able to have the higher income. Doing this decreased our; day care expenses, weekly cleaning costs, grocery and hydro bills. It did not take long before we figured it out that we were actually saving money with him being at home. However, both of our extended families had a very hard time coping with this positive and well thought out action of ours. Their comments were along the lines of; him being a lazy *****, how dare he rely on a woman for supporting him and the family, what kind of role model was he being for the children, etc. In the meantime, he did all the housework (light and heavy), all the meals and baking, canning, the laundry including hanging clothes on the line instead of using the dryer, he had a huge garden each of the 3 years he stayed at home, in fact he did more as househusband than I would've have done if I was the one staying at home. But it did not seem to matter, we were not living a "normal sexist" lifestyle and I believe they were threatened by our breaking of traditional and narrow gender roles.
  18. Glamour = money and its materialistic value where by the world's peoples are deceived by appearance as opposed to substance, or substantive value. It is a mental illusion of desire for the material world as opposed to the desire let's say to do good works, or come to know themselves as a spiritual being that exists instead of just "having" a material based surface world.
  19. I notice you did not mention what they have accomplished. Canada has its own identity the Harper gang would have us change ourselves to blend with the USA.
  20. An MP is not comedians or comic TV big difference. I cannot even believe some would compare the them. He used our email system to spread his racism. If this had been the Liberals people would've been screaming, suporting racism and his actions says much about the CPC and their supporters. Indian is not an acceptable term, nor is referring to FN's as Tonto, or Chief. That some of you do not see a correlation between failure/inaction/disrespect on these issues list and the chair of the First Nations Committee thinking a racist-FN joke being funny is simply unbelievable. Anyone who finds no racism in the joke meets the definition of a racist. If you think greeting FN peoples as 'Tonto or Chief' is alright just try it sometime with someone of FN extraction and see just how many laughs you get in return. As someone else who responded to this joke said: It is inapparopriate on so many levels, it is sickening.
  21. Thought Harper was supposed to get all nasty about it and play tough guy, was waiting all day, to see if he would live up to his talk? Of course he didn't. Hopefully, Leahy will get to the bottom of why not!!!! Wilkins should've known something about Canada, he didn't and doesn't.
  22. Glamour
  23. Why wilfully choose to use sexist terminology, to denigrate the poster instead of addressing the topic? Deliberate use of such is as bad as condoning racism in an MP. Those supporting him are either racist, or playing partisianship. Enuff said!
  24. Catchme, I have to say that I find your post offensive (and also plain wrong). What have you against Mennonites? I happen to think that if Chretien had reacted differently to Bush Jnr in 2001/2002, we wouldn't be in this mess. Fair enough, I find a good many posts at this site very offensive too. That is the nature of freedom of conscience and speech, people differ in opinion. I have nothing against Mennonites, I have no sympathy for them either though. Different story. As I have stated several times in this thread, if this was any other group of people, people would screaming for their removal, even the thread has born this out, all the comments are; they are hard working people, nice, just the kind of people we want here, etc etc. Thereby inferring that the "others", who have been in the same boat or similar are "inferior" and not worthy of being in Canada. The rules have to be applied fairly. It would seem some do not think so. Moreover, these people and their ancestors did not want to be here so they left, but thought they were keeping their citizenship, and for some reason they decided to come back. I say if they were firm in their convictions and felt their persecution was so bad, they would've renounced their citizenship, eh?! I have met a good number of great Mennonite people, and I have met a good number of not so nice ones too, they are people just like everyone else, subject to the same personal personal proclivities, of anyone other peoples: greed, deceit, and other such things.
