  1. The Conservatives have responded to the economist. Conference Board of Canada reaffirms analysis of Conservative platform 15 January 2006 OTTAWA - Today Paul Darby, Deputy Chief Economist of the Conference Board of Canada, confirmed to us that his original analysis of the Conservative Party of Canada's election plan released January 13, 2006, remains unchanged. "In summary, we found that the Conservative Party's economic platform is affordable in each fiscal year from 2005-2006 through 2010-2011. In each year there is enough fiscal room to pay down at least $3 billion a year in debt, as in the [Conservative] fiscal plan. "Over the five-year forecast horizon to 2010-11, the CBoC economic and fiscal outlook suggests that there remains $15.7 billion in unallocated fiscal room, over and above the $3 billion annual debt payment, which provides further cushion to ensure that deficits do not occur due to adverse economic events." Conservative Leader Stephen Harper has always made it clear that the details of the fiscal imbalance will be negotiated with the provinces and that surplus revenues exist in the Conservative plan to deal with this issue. Mr. Harper has said on numerous occasions that the Patient Health Care Guarantee will be paid for from existing budgetary resources.
  2. It would be a colossal bill, probably make the gun registry look like peanuts and the largest beneficiary of this will be the unions. What happened to people being responsible for their own actions, and not having kids if they can't afford them - okay maybe too simplistic. Nationalizing day care centres is just a start of imore intrusion into private lives and decisions, whats next nationalized kids sports and activities? You vill be in soccer, or you vill be in gymnastics cos big brother says you have to be. Nationized day care means its open to all regardless of income and will result in long wait lists cost overuns as in health care and neither doen't take mothers' and caregivers' concerns into account.
  3. Why would you care who wants to pay for private insurance, its not your business how somebody chooses to spend their money. You will still have your public system.
  4. This is a hoot click on the video link Explanation to the Nation. http://www.proudtobecanadian.ca/blog/index/weblog/3499/
  5. An equal and elected Senate would solve the problem of a 'liberal Senate' and would offset the problems regarding Prop. rep.
  6. The Chamber of Commerce of Canada, in its review of all the platforms of the parties had positive hopes about the way Harper will handle the US. This chamber had voiced concern over the handling of the Liberal government of the USA, seriously concerned about the impact it will have on our economy. The speaker mentioned that 80% of our trade is done with the US. She worries about jobs. JOBS! To me, that means INCOME. Income means MONEY. Without money, you are poor. Well said Betsy - The Best Form of Welfare is a Job Statements made about Harper and Bush are simply fear tactics with no basis in reality, in fact some of the statements made about Harper and the CPC are so far out in left field it leave one wondering if anyone writing that stuff is in the same century.
  7. Kyoto....hmmmm.... Why, oh why does the UN remind me strongly of the Liberal party? Hmmmm Maurice Strong and the One World Order
  8. Come on. You can. About every 2 or 3 days he comes up with a new first order of business should he be re-elected. He's making promises that fulfilled, make others impossible. He's lost track of who's promising what. He actually accused Layton of promising something Harper did during the last English language debate which I am sure that the rest of Canada found as laughable as I thought it was. He's dropping policy bombs in the middle of debates. Martin can't run his own election campaign and he wants to govern a whole country. I think the rest of Canada sees his desperation too. While I might agree that without Martin (who has been a big disappointment) they would have been better off, they have still fumbled the campaign ball and of course, the lack of ethics etc. etc. Unusual as they've always done well, campaign wise. I take this as evidence that they are tired and worn out (as is Martin) and it is time for a change. As far as the comments on Harper, - that dog don't hunt. The CPC platform is well articulated and most thinking people are now seeing beyond the malicious innuendo and scare tactics.
  9. I'll be darned if I'll support buying credits from the likes of China - thanks but no thanks. We can have our own emission targets without giving cash it to China while they carry on polluting.
  10. I won't mention names but check out initials M.B. and a few of the S's. It's there and a search will reveal plenty. I'm not going searching, I left another forum because of the personal attacks and insults. I picked this one because it seems to have the least amount of that stuff. Best to stick to discussion, thread drift happens and people can get heated, I prefer to try not to throw insults at posters.
  11. Just heard on CFRB that the Libs have dumped the liberal candidate, he will not be able to represent his party if he should win.
  12. www.proudtobecanadian.ca Conference Board of Canada renews its endorsement of Conservatives' math Just moments ago, on the state-run CBC Newsworld, the Deputy Chief Economist of the Conference Board of Canada reiterated his endorsation of the Conservatives Party’s campaign numbers, saying that they will not result in any deficit, and in fact allow for a continued surplus. The Conference Board of Canada is a body upon which the Canadian government has long relied to endorse their own economic outlooks, including the Liberal government’s outlooks of course. He also established that the Conservatives do not plan on gutting social programs to do that, nor raise taxes. Asked by the state-employed news anchors how it was that the Conference Board of Canada came to make the analysis of the Conservative Party platform, he answered that the Conservative Party took it upon themselves (obviously at some considerable political risk!) to ask the Conference Board to look at their platform and their numbers, and the Conference Board obliged them. The spokesman then said that the Conference Board took it upon itself to, in all fairness, ask the Liberal Party and the fringe socialist you’ve got to be kidding party if they’d each like their own numbers similarly analyzed, but they both refused the offer. It might also be noted that the prestigious C.D. Howe Institute verifies the Conservatives’ numbers as well.
  13. I couldn't get in either, but if it is true, then it could be the nail in the liberal's coffin. That is a major error.
  14. Liberals that I know don't stoop to the level of your venom, hence the silence. Enjoy your con lovefest and hatred. More liberal smear from someone who knows nothing about me. Comment about quiet liberals and all of a sudden you're full of venom and hate. Talk about some open-minded people willing to discuss why that is. "your" was meant to apply to the cons in general that frequent this forum. I don't hate anyone. But please look back over a few posts and you will see the venom from the cons that I speak of. I beg to differ newbie, I havn't seen any hate or venom much at all, and none from the conservatives. I have however, seen hate and venom from one left wing poster in particular, possibly 2?. The signature of that poster makes the case, and none which adds to reasonable debate or discussion.
  15. In all fairness I don't see why this is a scandal, the owner had it appraised and sold for the appraised value apparantly. There's no law against flipping a property, wish I could be so lucky.
  16. Not mine but here goes: President Kennedy is gunned down in Dallas, Texas. George W. Bush's home state. Where a lot of wealthy American right-wingers live. Some say the fatal shots were fired from a grassy knoll. Where was Stephen Harper that day? He isn't saying. Choose your Canada. I'm Not Making This UP
  17. Yes ... like that open-minded signature of yours. Well, if we saw any 'reasoned analysis' instead of hostile vicious attacks, Eureka might get some feedback. I was thinking of using a similar signature but didn't want to lower myself to the same level.
  18. I'm not counting my chickens until the fat lady sings. According to the Hill Times, the Liberals are going to pull out 'all the stops' in the last week. Could this mean that those ads are only the tip of the smearburg.
  19. I didn't realize that it was illegal to replace a candidate at this point, so Harper has indeed made the right decision, and in a timely manner.
  20. Harper did the right thing, but I wonder if its possible for Zeisman to get elected at all now, surely they could parachute someone in.
  21. Dosnajh's Biggest Donors Run Medical Firms Wow, has the CBC seen this one yet LOL
  22. Martin admitted today he approved the ads http://www.ctv.ca/ and really, he does defend the militry. http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Politics/Canad...1337392-cp.html Liberal spokesman Steve MacKinnon said the ad was never approved and was included on a DVD distributed to the media and on the Liberal website in error. He said it was not run and will not be run. Keith Martin even lied about it too whoda thunk it, liberals lying about something. http://www.cbc.ca/bc/story/bc_martin-ads20060112.html "Some idiot went and sent it out with the other 11 ads, and it was never sanctioned by the party, never approved, and we are completely appalled that this went out. We apologized to the men and women in the uniform."
  23. Maybe somebody should ask Kennedy about his integrity when he goes at someone, during hearings.
  24. This will be the first test of Harper's resolve when it comes to cleaning up government. He may not have a lot of options because it is too late to run another candidate. I hope he will handle it well. I think this is a reasonable response: The guy should step down, even if he is innocent until proven guilty, it would be the honourable thing to do for the party.
  25. Well, Mel Lastman (ex Toronto Mayor) thought it was good to use them when Toronto had a bit of snow - Actually, the ad has been airing in French, but I guess its that ''CPC mole" doing that LOL That add certainly undermines the credibility, or lack thereof, of the other ads, hopefully enough people can reason that out theselves.
