  1. Your right, the local ridings select and vote on their candidates, and Harper hasn't parachuted anyone into a riding.
  2. LOL Horsefeathers yourself, your hate for Harper transcends any reasonable discussion.
  3. Of course its another scandal they (Liberals) hid the transfer of $4.8 million right before the 1995 referendum to the (now-defunct) Option Canada -- headed by Claude Dauphin, Martin's right-hand man in Quebec. The facts Maam, just the facts Quebec's chief electoral officer began investigating the transfer in 1996, but later dropped the probe. Former heritage minister Sheila Copps, a Sun columnist, said she flagged the Option Canada grant in about 1998 after she took the post. Copps said she noticed at the time that about $300,000 in work commissioned from the unity organization was never received and Dauphin refused to account for it. She referred it to the auditor general, and "that was the last I heard of it," Copps said. Gee, really.
  4. Harper isn't going to take away any promised decrease in taxes, thats a lie and a distortion of facts started by the CBC. The CPC have stated that they would honour the tax rollbacks approved for the 2005 tax year, but that they had their own plans for 2006 onward. The CPC have their own platform, all of which we havn't heard of yet, but we do know they are talking about Income Splitting. Income splitting will save more people more money than the new rate and it is a very fair method of taxing family incomes, most noticeably when one spouse is home looking after the kids. Add to that: a cut in the GST, childcare funding, up to $500 Sports registration fee deduction and you have tax cuts for the low and middle income earners that exceed Party spending promises: Costing them all out "Our priority is broader and deeper tax relief than what the Liberals are willing to offer," Kenney told CBC News Online. "We would suspend [the Liberals] future measures in order to deliver broad-based and responsible tax relief, which will ultimately save Canadians more in their taxes and will be affordable in terms of the delivery of federal services," the release said. "The immediate result of cutting the GST will be $4.5 billion back in the pockets of ordinary Canadians. When the GST cut is fully implemented, the total benefit will be much greater," the release said. Kenney said they voted against the Liberal tax cuts because they disagreed with their fiscal priorities, adding they would have "spent smarter and cut taxes deeper." The Tories have also said that their own tax package has not yet been fully announced http://www.montesolberg.com/blog.htm Remember, it didn't happen if you didn't see it on the CBC.
  5. Hmm, pretty nasty post berift of any intelligence itself, and I'm not sure how this type of smear adds to good government or discussion of such.
  6. Your right Shoop, it doesn't hurt to change a gov't which has been in power for so long, no matter which one it is. It is time for a change
  7. I think you'll see the 'scary scary' picking up momentum, but it doesn't fly anymore. So along with that you'll see more of 'I Luv Canada' and "only liberal values are Canadian values' type of thing.
  8. Oh comon get real, I havn't seen any hate, except maybe from one poster who hates Harper cos her beloved Stockwell Day got the boot.
  9. Wouldn't it be more productive to join the NDP and work from within to change it?
  10. By your logic, you blame a Mulroney era civil servant in your words doled out money to "Lyin Brian's friends" and that experience was a "great asset to run the Liberal program" for Lyin' Jean Chretien and subsequently Lyin' Paul. I guess, since Mulroney's replacement Kim Campbell was wiped out at the polls, so to should Chretien's replacement, Martin be wiped out as well. Deflect all you want, but, Canadians just don't believe this stuff! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Indeed, Guite was a minor civil servant, and sure wasn't a Tory when he was involved in adscam. More smear tactics to deflect from liberal corruption.
  11. His education spending in total amounts to billions, and I just read he's rolling out a copycat CPC agenda new spending in health care. My gawd, why didn't he do some of this before, why wait until the election to give it back. Pay for patient to travel: Liberal wait-time strategy similar to Conservatives Allan Woods and Elizabeth Thompson, CanWest News Service Published: Thursday, January 05, 2006 VICTORIA - Billions of dollars in election promises were aimed at Canada's health care woes yesterday as the Liberals unveiled a plan to address waiting times and deal with an expected increase in cancer cases, while New Democrats pledged to create a national drug program. Paul Martin laid out the Liberal health platform with a guarantee that patients will receive timely medical care, something he billed as the "logical conclusion" to more than a year of work with provincial governments to improve medicare. The plan was similar to a program the Conservatives unveiled, although the pledges vary somewhat in details.
  12. Oh yes they will! The choices will range from stay-at-home moms, grandparents, neighbors, institutionalized daycares like we have now that deals with counties and rural areas and private homedaycare providers. Actually, there'll be an abundance of spaces! Oh yes, it will. Same as the answer above. The working poor nowadays mean working irregular hours. They are mostly like the mom I was referring to...single mom trying to enter the work force, working as a casual cashier at a grocery store. And they are the ones who desperately need daycare spaces that will suit their needs. Conservatives are not abolishing the public daycares we now have. Children who needs special care should be cared for by people with special training anyway. One caregiver who was under an agency was caught with 11 children under her care. Oh yes, the agency was doing their "inspection"....but for some reasons she was able to hide the truth from them. You know how she got caught? Her neighbor was backing out of her driveway and nearly hit a child. That was it. The neighbor reported on her. Rotten apples exist everywhere. But that doesn't mean everyone is rotten. , Very true. And they ought to make damn sure, first-hand...and not just rely on someone's assurances. It is easy for parents to know if their child is receiving quality care, especially if the careprovider had already been referred to by somebody else. The child's attitude and inter-action with the careprovider, the hygiene of the child, care-provider's interaction with the parents etc..., A simple "What did you do today, sweetpea?" can say a lot too. This is exactly the whole point. Parents having choices...and not being dictated to by the government how to raise their children! There are lots of spaces right now....but you know why the working poor are having such a hard time finding one? Because they cannot bring their subsidies to careproviders of their choice! They are limited to agencies who have the monopoly on those subsidies...but not many of these agencies can actually deliver the kind of care that is actually needed by those who need it most. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Agreed Betsy good post.
  13. Nice to know some people support our PM evading/avoiding taxes, same types who support liberal corruption I suppose. Hey, any port in a storm I guess.
  14. Can't refute the accucations again Harper so must must try and deflect. Posting facts is not another scare tactic. Being anti-american is not bigotry. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Coulda fooled me, there's a difference between normal critique and drive by smear tactics; and there are facts, and then there are facts ROTFLMAO
  15. Love him or hate him he makes a good point. Can anyone else explain why things have fallen apart so quickly for the Liberals? Why the Conservatives are actually catching a few breaks from the media this go round? Anybody? Bueller? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It is interesting actually, I think a lot of people are surprised at their poor campaign, Martin seems to be falling apart too. There's still a way to go though, he's made a big spending announcement this morning on education, but I hear Harper is making a big one today re: crime. Judging from the recent rash of vindictive posts this morning, the liberals must be running scared. Keeping the Liberals in would just endorse a weak Cabinet, and other than a multi year mega future spending solution to all problems they seem unable to act on any issue including softwood lumber, stopping gun violence, improving fed/prov.l relations, democratic reform andlowering taxes for low- and middle- income Canucks. Voting Liberal means status quo health care -- chronic underfunding, hypocrisy at the highest levels and no genuine care guarantees. Voting Liberal will just enable them to continue with their antagonistic approach to Canada/U.S. relations. Actually their incompetence put our economy and standard of living at risk
  16. Just another scare tactic, like Martin, pandering to the bigotry of anti-Americanism to win votes. Ughhhhh
  17. Actually child care is not a federal responsibility, I wonder if the provinces will commit in writing to only spend the liberal's promised child care money on actually creating new spaces- is there an agreement as to how many spaces will be created annually and how much parents will have to pay and considering its a nationalized program that means a well to do mom can leave her kid at the centre while she goes to the spa. A bigger question is will the child care workers be unionized (if they are part of the gov't union they will be) and what happens when they strike for higher wages and benefits? What do parents do then? What will their hours be and will they accomodate shift and part time workers, will they be typically union workers. How many kids to an adult and will these children have a loving, nuturing environment when they are warehoused in a room? Personally I don't trust them with the money, but this is just more liberal arrogance telling us we don't know how to raise our own children.
  18. Wow, now who's promising to spend big bucks. http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/news/st...2fe3a8&k=88859# Layton promises billion dollar national drug plan -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "We should be making sure that seniors and all Canadians have equitable access to medically necessary prescription drugs, regardless of where they live or how much money they've made," Layton said Wednesday. "We can't fix all the issues with prescription drugs all at once. But we can take some practical first steps and get moving in the right direction." The NDP prescription drug plan would 50 per cent of medically necessary prescription drug costs above $1,500 per year per person. The program would be delivered through a transfer to provinces and territories with the hope the provinces would reduce their own deductibles, expand access to prescription drugs, and extend coverage
  19. Never let the facts get in the way of a good smear ! http://www.torontosun.com/News/Election/20...378157-sun.html Wed, January 4, 2006 The Big Scare is backFar be it from the Liberals to let the facts get in the way of a good smear By GREG WESTON, IN WINNIPEG Prime Minister Paul Martin goes on the attack against Stephen Harper during yesterday’s meeting of the Canadian Club in Winnipeg. (Frank Gunn, CP) Dawn has barely broken over Manitoba after a cruel 5 a.m. flight from Ottawa, but Paul Martin is in full fighting form on the stump, waking up a breakfast crowd of local execs with one of his most fiery speeches of the federal election campaign. On this day, the topic that seems to have stirred the PM's passion from so much sleep deprivation is clear: Paul Martin is wonderful. Stephen Harper is a menace to life as we know it. How quaint. The prime minister who came to power promising to clean up politics is now seeking re-election as a walking negative-attack ad. For the past five weeks, the Liberal strategy has been largely to sit on the sidelines in the smug hope that the more voters saw of Harper, the less they would like him, and that the rest of the Conservative campaign would self-destruct in a hail of political stupidity and loose lips for which the party is notorious. But it didn't happen. ......
  20. Of course its not about the welfare of the kids for Liberals, its about nationalizing and controlling lives - to heck with what you think is best for your kids.
  21. Yeah, but you know how it goes: if we don't agree with current liberal mantra we don't have a clue about freedom or anything else for that matter ROTFLMAO
  22. Having struggled through the many childcare options without strong government regulatins and standards, I wouldn't wish it for anybody else. Hence, the long overdue national daycare program is finally addressing what many parents have been calling for for decades. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> In other words a complete nanny-state no thanks
  23. Wow, getting kinda nasty here. Your 'truths' are not necessarily someone elses 'truths', maybe some one else would like to drive a 'truth' into your skull.
