Martin Says Harper Will "Politicize" Court
scribblet replied to tml12's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Please provide source and quotes for your assertions. As as someone else has allready said, why is okay for the liberals to politicize the courts but its not okay for a conservative gov't to choose a 'conservative' judge. Hypocritical double standards here. As for your assertions that a CPC civil service will be corrupt, you have no proof or backup for such spurious accusations. As far as wonderful unbiased independant judges, yeah sure, Rosie Abella is one of the most biased and left wing socially engineering judge you'll ever get on the bench. -

Harper's inexperience - this is serious folks
scribblet replied to emailforcanada's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I guess if a gay person is mugged its more of a crime than my little old mother being mugged, her life is worth less than his. But really, how do we know what a person is thinking when they commit the crime, aren't all murders hate, aren't all crimes hate in a way. However Harper and conservatives certainly are not against gay people neither do they wish them or anyone else harm and to suggest such a think is ludicrous in the extreme. Its kinda funny that thats all someone can come continually come up with against Harper, oppostiion to BillC-250 and Grewal (like Grewal who ).... -
Is this the way Conservatives think?

Accepting other people's cultures and beliefs doesn't mean I have to give up mine. And wot in ell does it have to do with being conservative. -
Martin Says Harper Will "Politicize" Court

Your insults are increasing, guess it takes vermin to know one eh Harper has not said he inteneds to politicize the Courts, please provide the quote, although Martin has allready done that by court packing, so I'd say the politicizing of the courts is pretty well a done deal, no one could do it any better than the liberals. Harper has said he would prefer that a non-elected chamber respect the decisions made by the elected chamber, and affirmed it would be obvious that an " abuse of power by the Senate would bolster his argument for elected senators". Supreme Court Justice John Major is likely the only mchance to select a new judge because the current bench is relatively young. -

Harper a good man? Do you think it's good that he voted against including gay bashing in hate crimes legislation? C-250 made it a crime to kill a man merely because he's gay. I'm confused. I thought was a crime to kill anybody. Please clarify. Harper didn't vote against 'including gay bashing etc. That is at best, an extremely disengenuous statement. Bill 250 added 'sexual orientation' to the list of protected classes in the hate propaganda sections (318 & 319) of Canada's Criminal Code. No one, including Harper condones in any way, the promotion of hatred against anyone or any group, it was the ambiguity of the bill which could silence legitimate discussions that was the concern. There is also a concern that this bill could lead the way to the bible being banned, or at least certain passages viewed as 'hate speech'. In otherwords, Svend Robinson's bill was simply about stifling free speech and silencing opposition to his views, and opposition is about a loss of liberty and religious freedom. ( BTW, Martin promised to use the NWC to protect religious views) And this is way off topic -

I wouldn't like to see a selection process exactly the same as the U.S. it is far too partisan where days of constant grilling and rewording of questions is bound to cause some differences. I would like to see a process where the candidates can be questioned by members of all parties, them voted on by Parliament. Its funny, judges are supposed to interpret law and render a decision based on these laws. Obviously we don't see them being impartial or doing their job properly, or we wouldn't be so concerned about who appoints them. -
Massive Irregularitiews "Edmonton Centre
scribblet replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If this proves to be true, this will explain why the Liberal Candidate who was accused of bribing an NDP candidate GURANTEED A WIN for the NDP in another upcoming election if he (NDP) steps aside in this one. How can you guarantee a win? Vote fixing? It looks that way, on a large scale. I've no idea what can be done at this point about the voters lists, but if its close win for the liberals as it was before, then I would expect an immediate by-election. In fact, I would expect one anyway. Maybe its time for elections Canada to do a closer inspection of other ridings. -
Good post, but Martin is stumbling along asserting that 'the Liberals will win' maybe he knows something about the voting irregularities in Edmonton Martin is a disappointment, I had thought he would be a better leader, and his duplicity is stunning. I'm guessing most people saw through his notwithstanding clause manipulation. All I can say is the shenanigans and low down tactics from the liberal camp has hit an all time low, not the kind of people I want representing me. Here's hoping for some accountability and ethics finally.

Boy, its time for a complete and full enumeration. Wonder if this will hit the MSM, but its too late to do anything now, and some of the names have voted. "Massive Irregularities: Edmonton Centre Via campaign manager Victor Marciano; Laurie Hawn, Conservative Candidate in Edmonton Centre, has filed a complaint with the Commissioner of Elections Canada after massive voter list irregularities were uncovered by his campaign. For some time, there have been rumors of election irregularities in Edmonton Centre. At an all candidates meeting with Elections Canada on January 4, 2006, it was revealed that two buildings had been struck from the electoral rolls because they were not residences. In reality, these buildings were both mailbox stores. Several days later, the Laurie Hawn campaign identified a third non-residence building which sells mail boxes and reported it to Elections Canada. A few days ago, the Laurie Hawn campaign was alerted, via e-mail, by an Edmonton lawyer that: "Lots of [Anne McLellan] supporters are enumerated at their downtown office address instead of at their houses. One of them was bragging about how many times he could vote liberal (sic) based on the number of leases he had in her riding." In reaction to this e-mail, the Laurie Hawn campaign acquired a City of Edmonton map which listed all buildings and their street addresses and began thoroughly checking the revised voters list. Despite checking less than half the polls, here are some irregularities that have been identified: Almost 100 apparently nonexistent addresses in Edmonton's downtown core - in some cases, the addresses listed fictional residences in between two genuine buildings Hundreds of people registered to vote out of their law offices, medical offices, accounting offices, and Government of Canada offices - in some cases these may be genuine errors, but in other cases, entire families are registered to vote out of high rise office space Dozens of people registered to vote out of office towers, but who did not list a suite number, causing the address to read similarly to ordinary residences - in many cases, these people are also registered to vote in other ridings using their home addresses, and in other cases, voters living in other ridings are only registered in Edmonton Centre Dozens of people registered to vote out of small mail box locations and from self-storage yards - there is no legitimate way for a person to appear on the list of Electors from a self-storage yard Eighteen people registered to vote out of a truck stop People registered to vote out of karaoke bars, lingerie stores, dance lounges, galleries, etc..." Hate to break it to you, but the 'no insult' rule is broken most regularly by the other poster, in fact, I'm surprised the moderator allows it.

The way I see it, I'm either celebrating by toasting to Prime Minister Harper or I'll be drowning my sorrows on Monday night.... ....odds are I'll have a headache on Tuesday. Well I hope so Fortunately the voters are not buying into the fear mongering so much, and have come to realize that portraying Harper as 'religious nut' is simply a malicious and spurious tactic. Not to mention offensive to all people who hold religious beliefs.

There is a lot of anti-Americanism in Canada. They say they're against Bush and his policies, but you don't have to dig very far to get the sneers about cowboy Americans, about their gun mentality, about their religious beliefs, and about many other aspects of their society and culture. Americans are thought to be simplistic, uncultured and stupid, though that's not put in so many words very often. You hear it coming from the smug, wine and cheese set, but you also hear it parotted back by fairly simple and ordinary Canadians because they're regurgitating what Martin and Chretien and their type have been spreading around for so many years. I have heard from several people, young people with little political awareness, who rarely follow the news, in ordinary jobs, that Stephen Harper would sell us out to the Americans, be Bush's lap dog. Where are they getting this nonsense from? The political elites, of course. I don't think Argus is confusing anything. In fact, I think he just about gave a perfect description of anti-Americanism in Canada. Primarily based on ignorance, blind patriotism, and (my favourite one) the left's insecurity that Canadians are so much like the Americans they despise. I find that when I declare how much similar we are with the Americans how much better I feel. No I don't support all of U.S. policy and yes I am proud of Canadian sovereignty, but I am also proud of living next to the U.S. and sharing in their material benefits. I am proud to live in North America. Hopefully Harper will govern with the same level of sincerity and consistency as he campaigned with. He is a good man who was not tainted by scandal. And he has my vote. Well Said !!!! -

Surely you reconize the low approval rating in the states. You must realize the Bush admins policies have caused alot of division in the american public, I dont see how our aliennation could be much different. Which has zip to do with this election. Martin's playing the anti american card is pretty low and so are his supporters who use it. As for Harper being a good man, he's one of the best, and a chance at some ethics and accountability in government. -
Pretty stupid, and he was on hold for 12 minutes LOL guess this wasn't some homeless guy looking to stay warm.... http://www.smalldeadanimals.com/

Can't have free votes in parlimentary systems. Governments would fall constantly. Party discipline is a core aspect of our system, thats why the Party Whip is one of the most important people internally in a political party. Can't have your way unless you want to overhaul the entire system, and the only way to go where free votes are encouraged (and actually work) would be the American or French type republican (system, not the party) systems. You can if they are non-confidence votes, so only financials would be confidence votes.

I know I'm neither of the above, and I know alot (definately most) of people here aren't, on both sides of the debate. There is alot of people that go into the knee-jerk "it's American so it must be evil" stance that have kind of entered the debate in recent weeks. Neither am I, I'm conservative but if I were American I doubt I would vote republican. George Bush is not my hero nor is he my guru. Its pretty sad that all liberals can come up with is anti americanisms to smear conservative supporters.

President of Ignatieff's Ridings has Resigned
scribblet posted a topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Wowzer.... Etobicoke Liberal riding president throws support to Conservatives Jan. 20, 2006. 04:51 PM ROB FERGUSON QUEEN'S PARK BUREAU In a last-minute blow to high-profile Liberal candidate Michael Ignatieff, the president of the party’s riding association in Etobicoke-Lakeshore swung his support today to Conservative rival John Capobianco in Monday’s federal election. The controversial process by which Ignatieff was acclaimed the candidate over local hopefuls ruled ineligible by the party was a major factor in the decision, said Ron Chyczij, who had hoped to contest the nomination himself. “I can no longer in good conscience support the Liberal candidate in this riding,” he said in a statement released this afternoon. read more on www.torontostar.com -

I suppose the liberals havn't politicized the courts by stacking them with liberals ! Just how many seats will becoming vacaant in the next few years? When are going to have a procedure for vetting judges and giving parliament a say in the appointments. -
I love how I became a relgious fanatic in all of 2 minutes. Exciting. It's not 'meanness or self-interest' that any of us are advocating anyways. This isn't Adam Smith capitalism, this isn't another industrial revolution. Stop fear mongering. Ooooh, God Bless Canada, what a nasty war like statement - I'm trembling... LOL Amazing how such a mild statement can set someone off on a knee jerk anti american rant.

Martin simpy defines the word sleaze, but maybe the voters are buying into it, fear and smear works. Northing like playing to the anti American crowd, and not he's trying to play the anti Albertan anti west card. http://thechronicleherald.ca/Front/478399.html MacKay can’t help the East, PM warns Deputy Tory leader called no match for the Calgary cabal ADVERTISEMENT Nova Scotians can’t trust Peter MacKay to look after their interests in a Conservative government, says Paul Martin, because scary right-wing Albertans will be running the show. "Peter MacKay doesn’t really count," the prime minister said in a phone interview from Ontario on Thursday. "All of Stephen Harper’s advisers come from Calgary. They come from where he is. Peter MacKay is not going to be the person who’s going to be deciding." Mr. Martin is a desperate man saying desperate things at the end of a losing battle, says Mr. MacKay.

Why do we have to meet Kyoto? It's just another red book promise, this time, made to the world. All this fear over Harper, being 'American', causing stress. Oh my, we've been governed by con artists (an 'elaborate kick-back scheme' definately sounds like con artists) and petty thieves for years. I really have no fear of someone that doesn't deserve to go to jail. We don't, its a crock, why in ell should we pay China and others for credits so they can continue polluting.

How about this, wonder if this will give Canadians cause for concern, and what would it take. http://www.canada.com/theprovince/news/sto...96-be18974dc507 Al-Qaida targets Alaskan pipeline Muslims urged to launch attack from Mexico and Canada Matthew Ramsey The Province Friday, January 20, 2006 B.C.'s energy sector is on heightened alert after an al-Qaida-affiliated Internet blog message called on Canadian and U.S. jihadists to attack an Alaskan oil pipeline. The 12-page posting targets the Trans-Alaska Pipeline specifically and energy infrastructure in California and Mexico in general. It was discovered and translated from Arabic Dec. 30 by the Washington-based SITE Institute. The posting advocates riddling the iconic pipeline with bullets, blowing it up and causing large fires to complicate repair efforts, and attacking ocean-going tankers or fuel depots in Valdez. "The most suitable candidates for these operations are our American Muslim brothers who live on the land of trash . . . Also, we can add to this jihad group any other groups who can reach the American terrorist regime, either directly or through neighbouring countries, like Canada or Mexico," the posting says. While refusing to confirm or deny any investigations that may or may not be under way, Canadian Security Intelligence Service spokeswoman Barbara Campion said the threat has been noted. "ITAC [the Integrated Threat Assessment Centre] is well aware of the Internet posting," she said.
