Radical Islam is Wrecking the World - Or, Why Can't Anyone Tell th
scribblet replied to jbg's topic in The Rest of the World
Great post JBJ: Why is it when people talk about today's radical Islamists and make it clear that they are not referring to Muslims in general or the peaceful side of Islam, people try to make it appear that the references are to ALL muslims. It is not, radical Islamists today have accomplished nothing other than to make war and teach their kids to hate and kill themselves. -
Because people who can't afford to go to the U.S. (travel hotel etc. etc.) might be able to do something for themselves or their families if it were available here. I see no reason for not allowing private clinics and diagnostic procedures alongside our public healthcare, and I'll never understand why people are against other people spending their money as they see fit.

Is the CBC Photoshopping Photos
scribblet replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
So far I think its only with the bloggers and forums I guess. -
Would the CBC really be that biased that they would resort to photoshopping images? Say it isn't so. http://www.stephentaylor.ca/archives/000825.html 7 CBC Fauxtography Kate McMillan did some fantastic work yesterday uncovering image manipulation by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation on an April 19th story about the government's sobering Kyoto costing. McMillan discovered that the CBC had cropped and applied a photoshop "dirty" filter to an image of smokestacks in Toronto to accentuate environmental damage. Not only was the juxtaposition of pollution and a story on Kyoto costing inappropriate (a less but still inappropriate image would have been a photoshopped stack of papers stamped "Kyoto" crushing the piggy bank of a Canadian family) but to manipulate an image to reflect a editorial point of view is downright unethical. The image was also used in a news story back on February 14th.

Scribbling as usual I see! 'Anyone can speak Troll,' said Fred dismissively, 'all you have to do is point and grunt.' (Harry Potter)

I've never understood why people object to others purchasing some treatments or diagnostic procedures privately. Why would I care if my neighbour was able to help his family or save a family member's life by purchasing treatment. I see no reason why we can't allow for instance, mobile MRI clinics, it would sure alleviate waiting periods.

They still are up to the end of high school and that is because is was guarranteed in our BNA act and is enshrined in the constitution, so it would I think require some major changes that no party is willing to tackle. Personally I don't agree with it as it gives other denominations a case for wanting financing. Tis a conundrum.

Sheez guys back to the topic.... Rue good work I kinda get the feeling that some people would blame Katrina on Israel, (probably a conspiracy theory out there somewhere on that) In an alternate universe, Arabs parties are completely without blame Israel is behind everything and completely at fault.

I don't think he was actually 'committed' if he had been, he probably wouldn't have been able to buy the gun. http://abcnews.go.com/images/US/detentionord_1_070418.pdf 37.2-819. I think people who were near this atrocity would be justified in hating these extremeists: http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/122128 Muslim Anti-Jewish Crusade Also Pursues Christians (IsraelNN.com) Muslim fundamentalists, aligned with Al Qaeda, bombed a Christian bookstore and two Internet cafes in Gaza on Saturday following previous attacks on churches as part of its religious crusade to replace the secular Fatah faction. The "Sword of Islam" terrorist group took responsibility for the bombings of Internet cafes and music stores, which they consider an offense to the Muslim religion because they represent Western society. The same group has issued warnings to Gaza women not to hang out in Internet cafes. The Swords of Islam has bombed more than a dozen Internet cafes in several weeks and destroyed the vehicle of one young man who was playing his radio tape at high volume. It also ordered women to wear a full-face veil. Muslim courts in the Palestinian Authority (PA) increasingly operate as the moral authority over local areas, and one town in Samaria barred a music and dance festival.

Age of Consent Hearings Moving Forward
scribblet replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
To qualify harmonization, it mean to lower the age of consent for an.l sex. The new law raises the age to 16, with a close in age exception of five years Some committee witnesses were opposed to the bill such as: Canadian AIDS Society, Egale Canada, Canadian Federation for Sexual Health and Regroupement québécois des Centres d'aide et de lutte contre les agressions à caractère s_xuel. To read their testimony against raising the age of protection and in favour of lowering the age of s_domy: http://cmte.parl.gc.ca/Content/HOC/committ...htm#Int-1979927 The United Nations defines a child as anyone under the age of 18 so, the least we can do is raise the age of protection to 16. -
Age of Consent Hearings Moving Forward

There two proposed amendments The first amendment was to "harmonize" the age of consent for anal relations with heterosexual relations. The second amendment was to modify the Evidence Act which would have created a loophole for predators. -

e whole anal thing is just for relationships between male and female... To clear things up, is that true, scriblett? Also, what was this amendment that would of created a loophole? I wasn't 'suggesting' anything, just posted what is happening. I believe the whole anal thing is for all relationships as far as I know. It is my understanding that the proposed amendment (Joe Comartin NDP) was to the Canada Evidence Act that will make information to do with internet luring non-compellable. (section 172.1 luring a child) if the proposal was accepted and passed I believe it would make it harder to prosecute predators and sure wouldn't help the most vulnerable. Two Liberals also voted against the amendments. -
Age of Consent Hearings Moving Forward
scribblet replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I understand that the two proposed amendments Bill C-22 were ruled out of order, which was challenged by some members of the committee but a majority voted to uphold the chair's ruling, as they agreed that these amendments were out of order. The first amendment was to "harmonize" the age of consent for an_l relations with heteros_xual relations. The second amendment was to modify the Evidence Act which would have created a loophole for predators. Understanding “Age of Protection” (from Department of Justice Website) http://canada.justice.gc.ca/en/news/nr/2006/doc_31832.html The age of protection, or age of consent as it is also called, refers to the age at which the criminal law recognizes the legal capacity of a young person to consent to sexual activity. Below this age, all sexual activity with a young person, ranging from sexual touching to sexual intercourse, is prohibited. The current age of consent is 18 years old when the sexual activity involves exploitative activity. This applies to such cases as prostitution, pornography, or where there is a relationship of trust, authority, dependency or any other situation that is otherwise exploitative of a young person. Under the current law, the age of consent for non-exploitative sexual activity is 14 years old. Under the current law, young people aged 14 and over can consent to sexual activity, no matter the age of their sexual partner. The current law does not provide sufficient protection for vulnerable young people, as recent examples of luring for sexual purposes has demonstrated. Sexual relationships between adults and children are unacceptable. Currently, without the Age of Protection Bill, at 14 years of age, Canada’s age of sexual consent is out of step with the international norm, which is at least 16 years of age. It is also inconsistent with Canada's legal definition of “child” and that contained in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, as every person under the age of 18 years. -
Garth Turner wants to see full income-splitting
scribblet replied to Pat Coghlan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
People are free to choose and make their own decisions about working or staying home. Income splitting is not about keeping women at home etc. etc. , that is simply smoke and mirrors, most people would not save enough that they could afford to have one spouse stay home. -
Should The Green Party Be Included In The Election Debate?
scribblet replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I thought that at first, but since May has endorsed Dion as making the best PM, she is obviously a Liberal, therefore she doesn't need to be in the debate. If Layton really believed in going Green, then he would also not run a candidate in that riding. Apparantly, Dan Baril, strategist for the Green Party, has resigned or maybe fired, from his position because of his disagreement with Elizabeth May's agreement with Dion. -
A lot of these protests are orchestrated and don't necessarily reflect the feelings of the majority. I know in some ridings they bus people in. If the rumours are true it isn't likely the Libs will want to force and election, looks like we are saved from an election until the Fall at least.

Has Dion really said that he'll restate income trusts issue?

Age of Consent Hearings Moving Forward
scribblet replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Bill C-22 is being heard by the Justice committee this week, it passed second reading on October 30, 2006, and is currently before the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights. This coming week on Tuesday, April 17, the justice committee will reconvene, begin to go through the bill and hear proposed amendments. Apparantly NDP MP Joe Comartin will introduce two amendments which have nothing to do with protecting children. (Read Mr. Comartin’s comments from 2nd Reading : http://www2.parl.gc.ca/HousePublications/P...=1#Int-1733032) One expected amendment will call for the “harmonization” of the age of consent, which means lowering the age of s_domy from 18 to 16. Some committee witnesses were opposed to the bill: Canadian AIDS Society, Egale Canada, Canadian Federation for S_xual* Health [formerly Planned Parenthood], and Regroupement québécois des Centres d'aide et de lutte contre les agressions à caractère s_xuel.* To read their testimony against raising the age of protection and in favour of lowering the age of s_domy: http://cmte.parl.gc.ca/Content/HOC/committ...htm#Int-1979927 -

The police et al have been slow and careful with this crime scene as they know they will be under a microscope. Its okay for armchair critics who think they know everything to slag the police, but they are human being sputting their lives on the every day for us, and they have done very well. -
Actually they really didn't help their cause did they? I read some of their posts on another site, more people should to get a feeling of what some of them are really about.

oh Oh http://bourque.com/ if this is true, there sure won't be a spring election. There wouldn't be anyway, but the media just likes to fan the flames. Gumdrops: Dump Dion Plot Uncovered ... Latest Poll #'s ... & NHL Habs For Sale ? The Dump Dion forces have finally shown their hand. In this latest salvo in the Liberal Party feud, bedrock Liberal strategist Ray Heard has unleashed a scathing missive against sundry targets, both within the Liberal party and in political media circles. In his email, a copy of which was obtained by Bourque, Mr. Heard says he speaks "for many other Liberals who are already in

I'm with Garth on this one, but I agree, doubt the Liberals will want to reduce our taxes. I don't see why people are against it because stay at home mom's might benefit. I'll sure benefit and I'm not a stay at home mom cos I have the higher income, any couple where one has a higher income than the other should benefit. This will be interesting to see how long the Liberals will tolerate Garth or vice versa - -
I-man - what do you think about his remarks?
scribblet replied to RB's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I would say that the majority of poor people are not criminals. Regarding I-man, Obama has gone up a notch or two in my books after reading this. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070414/ap_on_...he2008_trail_38 FLORENCE, S.C. - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama (news, bio, voting record) on Friday questioned the way some rappers talk about women in song.... They are "degrading their sisters. That doesn't inspire me," Obama said of some hip-hop artists when a man in a crowd of about 1,000 questioned him. The Illinois senator was responding to a question of what inspired him, and said God and civil rights activists. -snip- "I do think we've seen a coarsening of the culture," Obama said in an interview with The Associated Press after the town hall meeting. As a constitutional lawyer, Obama said he was a free speech advocate. -snip- In Iowa, Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee said Imus' departure could result in exits for other talk show hosts, such as Rosie O'Donnell and Bill Maher.....
