Exactly what does his being a 'fundamentalist' have to do with his position on the environment, I have also read elsewhere that the Liberals have used that term (Nazi) to score political points. I guess the 'progressive' smear machine is in action. So much hyperbole on the issue of Harper's religion - kinda gets you right here that they care so much about his religion more than anything else. Are Christians really overtly trying to dismantle our governments - enquiring minds would like to know LOL May needs control her excesses of rhetoric including the belittling and demonizing of Evangelical Christians, characterizing their theology as "waiting for the end of time in glee," kinda sounds like some on here and in other places.

Kyoto Targets Must be Met by 2008 - not 2012

It's in the best interest of the Conservatives to be misleading on this - at least until they get re-elected with a majority. The who misleading on this, how about the Liberals who got us into it in the first place then did nothing about it. Environmentalists' 'fraud' A union leader of all people backs Tories' green plan -- and takes Gore and Suzuki to task By JOE WARMINGTON http://www.torontosun.com/News/Columnists/...144261-sun.html Buzz Hargrove agreeing with the Conservatives and the Conservatives agreeing with Buzz Hargrove? Maybe there is something funny with the environment after all. But Buzz and the Tories think the only thing that's funny is with the crazy so-called environmentalists' ravenous quest for pushing Global Warming Doom -- all at the cost of the Canadian economy. "Everybody is chasing this new idol called the environment without any thought of how we got here," the CAW president said yesterday. "I am not buying the argument myself." But he does believe tens of thousands of jobs will be lost if the movement continues at this pace. "I think people have to recognize this problem is serious," he said. -
well, CBC’s Resident Subversive: Rex Murphy Rips Environmentalism http://flaggman.wordpress.com/2007/04/28/c...vironmentalism/ Rex Murphy was at his iconoclastic best the other night. Undermining years of CBC’s enviro-scare-mongering editorial policy, he rips into John Baird’s lightbulb jihad, Laurel Broten’s “Flick Off” campaign, Sheryl Crow’s one-square wipe, and enviro-freaks in general, in his Friday, April 27, 2007 “Point of View” Segment on CBC’s The National. Never afraid to get sharply to the point, this is how he starts: “Environmentalism robs people of their judgement.” Watch here and cheer!

Dion said May should withdraw the comment. I wonder if he regrets his agreement now.

Fixed Election Dates on the Way
scribblet replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Sure, a few months maybe - but hey 3 years in and the poll are good, lets have a snap election. Its entirely appropriate for us and level the playing field for all parties. Its my understanding that a vote of non confidence could still bring down the gov't. -

Should this Liberal Candidate Resign

Excellent post !! Your second group usually like to post about zionism and berate Israel for defending itself, yet rarely do we see any condemnation of continual bombings and attacks on Israeli citizens. I think the left doesn't view the conflict as a historical political and military, they seem to see it as a clash between the forces of good and evil. - with Israel being the evil oppresser. The Palestinians have mutated into a concept of innocents suffering at the hands of a powerful .....whatever. They seem to overlook the bloody and indiscriminate acts of hatred and violence by the Pals. against Israel. The majority of the middle east is dedicated to the extermination of Israel, maybe we should walk in their shoes for a while. From what I've read, I don't see this candidate as being part of the second group, he is has not giving up, though. He doesn't deny the substance of the charges against him, he is making the argument that they are not relevant, he says he's matured. http://www.canada.com/edmontonjournal/news...c9b&k=26648&p=2 His nomination is under review. -
Of course it the name, as far as I know he hasn't done anything yet to earn any political kudos. "You can understand how fiercely proud I am to be able to say that your prime minister was also my dad," Trudeau said. Did any one see the CTV interviews with the riding grits? All hoping for another Pierre - kinda gets you right here doesn't it. Pierre Trudeau's government was the worst and most damaging in the history of this country, in so many ways . We don't need another mindless can-do-no-wrong irresponsible Trudeau running around Ottawa. Lets hope he is at at least a bit different to daddy.

CFLs have mercury in them too, disposal problems if people just put them in the regular garbage.

I don't doubt there will be a cabinet shuffle soon, but O'Connor is not a bad Minister of Defence and after all he was not put in that position to be a Prison Warden. I am sure he just took it for granted that the Liberal's set-up for prisoners would be compassionate and a system for overseeing it place. Guess he should have known better huh ! Why is no one telling the Liberals that they set up the system that they are blaming him for? It made sense to think that the Int. Red Cross was monitoring - no - so then then he goes to the Afghan Human Rights commissioner, that falls through so he sets up a completely new deal with the Afghan Gov't. Sounds like it is a bit of a muddle but how fast he is working to make things better - he's getting things sorted out quickly from a mess left by the Liberals.

Fortunately for the Taliban and their ilk, North Americans generally don't have a stomach for war. They know that count on it, and revel in it. The Taliban are the enemies of the legitimate government of Afghanistan so really it is appropriate to turn them over to it.

I can just hear him speaking now.... well, figuratively speaking.

Should this Liberal Candidate Resign

Who would vote for this guy, would you as Liberal? 'Am I in a position to morally judge them [the suicide bombers]? Am I in a position to even talk about them?' In some ways, yes, we are. In some ways, no, we're not." http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/news/st...40-2028925036d7 Read up on this guy, a little extreme and Eratic to say the least, but hey if the Liberals want him run, more fools they are. -
I know, I know !! 3 of you are wrong so far -

if Dion is smart he'll let this one go, but lets keep an eye out to see if there's a 'pay off' huh http://www.canada.com/edmontonjournal/news...3356c9b&k=26648 EDMONTON - Farhan Mujahid Chak's fledgling political career teeters on the edge after inflammatory statements attributed to the Edmonton federal Liberal candidate and an alleged brush with the law surfaced Friday. Conservative political bloggers and the National Post newspaper carried snippets purportedly written by Chak before the 33-year-old won the Liberal nomination in the riding of Edmonton-Mill Woods-Beaumont on March 31. Some of the writings blame the Israeli government for slaughtering, raping and enslaving Palestinians, and suggesting the West masterminded terrorist attacks to discredit Muslims. Email to a friendEmail to a friendPrinter friendlyPrinter friendly ARRESTED IN 1993 It also came to light that Chak was arrested in 1993 in connection with the firing of a shotgun into the door of a south-side nightclub.

Gordon O'Connor Once Again Under Pressure
scribblet replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Mr. Ignatieff should check with the powers that be now and again and find out what Martin and crew were up to. http://tinyurl.com/25rspl Torture in Afghanistan: the liberals knew The old liberal government had been prevented by Canadian diplomats in station in Kabul, in 2003, 2004 and 2005, that torture was a current practice in the Afghan prisons. In spite of these warnings, the Martin government decided to sign an agreement with the Karzaï government, in December 2005, in order to deliver to the Afghan authorities all the prisoners captured by the Canadian soldiers, reveal documents of the Ministries for Foreign Affairs obtained by the Press. Between 2002 and 2005, Canada was accustomed to giving to the Americans the Afghan prisoners suspected of having bonds with the talibans. But Ottawa decided to negotiate an agreement of transfer of the prisoners with the Afghan authorities, following the controversy caused by the ill treatments in the center of military detention American of Guantánamo, in Cuba, and the tortures inflicted to the prisoners by American soldiers with the prison of Abou Ghraib, in Iraq. -
Looks like fixed election dates are coming, about time. Now, if we can do something about the Senate - http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/s...66-187b735a024c Grits relent: Fixed dates for elections on the way Liberal senators will likely bow to the will of the House of Commons and give up their attempt to amend a government bill fixing federal election dates every four years, the party's Senate leader said yesterday. Senator Celine Hervieux-Payette said the original version of the bill will likely pass Tuesday, without a Senate amendment that would have added provincial and municipal referendums to a list of events that could have allowed future governments to briefly delay elections to avoid conflicts.

You seem to be the only one concerned, the case is closed, the documents were allready included in the original investigation. http://www.canada.com/topics/news/story.ht...75dffd1&k=73864 But in a letter to Day released by his office Thursday, the RCMP said it already had the documents in its possession when the original investigation was conducted in 2001.

Its also sad to see that any kind of criticism of radical Islam leads to accusations of bigotry. Mind-boggling really. It's too bad too because without REAL discussion on what is happening within that religion from both sides - progress and solutions can never be achieved.

For the most part I suppose, but carbon dioxide occurs as a natural component of the atmosphere as well, can't regulate that. There certainly is no agreement as to how much we can do to stop the earth's cycling, or slow it down, that is an unknown. But I know there is global warming because just about 4 weeks ago there was a lot of snow in my garden, and this week - its all gone, its warmer and I don't need a heavy jacket. So yup, its warming up all right.

Climate change has become a hot button issue with no scientific agreement, so I suppose politicians on all sides have to play to both arguments - hysteria is outpacing science in this debate. Instead of blowing hot air about potential floods and the sky is falling rhetoric, and wasting our money on fear mongering, they should start looking at made in Canada solutions based on real fact. Problem is we don't know what the real facts are. But buying credits from China is not an answer
