RCMP Arrest Environment Canada employee
scribblet replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
to put it bluntly The person is not a whistlebower, he didn't do it out of a sense of doing what is best for the country, but more likely that he was following his own twisted sense of right or wrong. This person was in a position of trust, he likely signed a confidentiality agreement, so he betrayed the trust and agreement. No way he can be construed as a whistle blower. -
Age of Consent Hearings Moving Forward
scribblet replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I wasn't referring to non consensual, I was just making a comment that to me sodomy is abusing your body. There's nothing in the act referring to other practices. Personally I'm happy that this is being passed, it is LONG overdue and embarrassing that this has been held back for so long. One has to wonder why anyone would be campaigning to lower the age of consent and not want to protect our most vulnerable from predators. What's more - the Liberals and NDP LIED through their teeth in their argument against the legislation, claiming it did things it did not in any way do. They should be held to account for opposing this. -

You can say that again, repeated lies about Harper being a 'so-con.' doesn't make it so. He's more liberal these days than Martin. - -
Right, not to mention tax relief in other areas.

Conservatives Raise TEN TIMES more than Liberals.
scribblet replied to Michael Bluth's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
As one comment said: With $1000 donation limit, $50000 non refundable deposit, no prospect of returning to public trough anytime soon this Liberal leadership becomes a losing proposition. Apparantly more than a few leadership candidates are having problems finding donors to pay off their debts. Add this tid-bit of information to the story that came out last week showing the Liberals are far behind even the NDP in fundraising. -
Talk about child abuse. Notice it was protested by animal rights people, but no protests about child abuse, that's even more bizarre. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/arti...in_page_id=1811 Baby's bizarre 'bite' of passage with cobra Source: Daily Mail Last updated at 11:31am on 9th May 2007 A one-year-old is forced to fight a neutered cobra during a shocking snake-charming rite of passage in India. The baby tries to protect itslef while being repeatedly hit by the animal, which has also had its mouth stitched up and its fangs removed. This bizarre spectator sport - reportedly from Kasimkota in Andhra Pradesh - has been condemned by animal rights protesters after footage appeared on the internet. They've warned that a cobra's fangs grow back quickly, putting the youngsters in mortal danger. Several snake charmers die each year while handling the animals.

The Conservatives are on the way to becoming one of the longest lasting minority govs. in Canada's history, and could go even longer - gee whoda thunk it. If things percolate along it could outlive the average minority gov. lifespan - one more month. I wouldn't place any bets on an election this year either, as Harper has given up the power to spring al election at whim. We know that Mr. Chretien abused those powers and Mr. Martin wasn't any different. Who knows, they could hang in until until Oct. 19, 2009 - would that break a record.

This should add to it - http://stevejanke.com/archives/225814.php Nicolas Ruszkowski is a well-known figure when somebody needs their image fixed up. Prior to taking on the job of making Stephane Dion look good, he was helping other folks with their battered images. And when I say "prior to", I mean he was doing it last Friday. You see, Ruszkowski is a vice-president at Fleishman-Hillard Canada Inc -- image consultants. As such, he had a lot of high-powered clients with very serious image problems. As of this past Friday, May 7, Ruszkowski was lobbying on behalf of Royal Lepage Relocation Services, and the government agencies he lobbied included National Defence, Public Works and Government Services Canada, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and the Treasury Board of Canada. Why these agencies? Well, in November 2006, the Auditor General reported on problems in which the Liberal government awarded the 2004 contract to handle government employee relocations to Royal Lepage: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...y/National/home -

Age of Consent Hearings Moving Forward
scribblet replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The justice committee threw the amendments out. I suppose it should be equalized now that the age is 16 (well if the senate passes it) but personally I would rather see it stay at 18. To me the act of buggery seem to like a rather brutual attack against either male or female, but more importantly participants in that type of act are more at risk health wise, this practice can have lethal consequences. I'm not sure why anyone would want to promote this type of practice, at least at an earlier age. -
Cons not looking after Canadians children
scribblet replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This report seems to hinge on the above. Meanwhile there's a good article here which seems to indicate that a subsidized child care system may not be all that great either. http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/story.h...95-028c36daadc7 A Commons committee is currently examining Bill C- 303, which would mandate funding for early learning and child-care programs in Canada. This private member's bill, introduced on May 17 by New Democratic MP Denise Savoie, is clearly aimed at extending Quebec's 10-year-old model of government- subsidized child care (which many see as a success story) across the country. But before we try to replicate Quebec's child-care model coast to coast, Ottawa should take a close look at what that model has brought Quebecers. The answer: high costs, little choice, mediocre quality. The stated goal of Bill C-303 is to "ensure the quality, accessibility, universality and accountability of [child-care] programs in order to promote early childhood development and well being." Is this goal really being met in Quebec? One of the few extensive studies on the quality of Quebec child-care facilities reported in 2005 that 61% had an overall quality rated as minimal (with scores of 3 to 4.9 out of 7), while 12% were rated as inadequate and 27% as good. Government subsidy and regulation, clearly, does not ensure high quality. As might be expected, the minimal payment -
I thought the democrats where supposed to be free of the overtly religious candidates, looks like they have at least one. He is pro-life, pro prayer-in-schools and is a born-again believer. Besides, democrats can be Christians too can't they, all part of a big tent party. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...7042702044.html A Holy-Roller Democrat By Dan Gilgoff Sunday, April 29, 2007; Page B03 John Arthur Eaves baptized three of his four sons in the Jordan River, an event he highlights in a radio campaign ad. The candidate for governor of Mississippi thinks Roe v. Wade should be overturned, calls for reintroducing school prayer and wants limits on riverboat gambling -- all hot-button issues among evangelical pastors. But Eaves isn't just any old run-of-the-mill evangelical candidate -- he's a Democrat. And he's challenging not just any first-term governor, but Haley Barbour, a former chairman of the Republican National Committee and a Goliath in the GOP, with possible designs on the White Ho -snip- Eaves roots his populism in the same evangelical Christianity as his social positions. "A lot of people ask me, 'How are you a Democrat and a Christian?' " he says in his Jackson office, festooned with photos from his 1996 trip to Israel to baptize his sons. "And I say, 'Because I'm a Christian, I'm a Democrat.' Christ healed the sick, reached out to the poor and came to tell us the truth, which today would translate into support for health care and education. Christ came to help people, and I believe that's the role of the Democratic Party."

Age of Consent Hearings Moving Forward

I'm not sure, I would like to see some clarification on it. If this means doing away with the age of consent all together for this practice (which it sounds like) or equalizing it. -

I'd say more an obsession with Harper in general. I think someone who looks like Harper stole candy from dobbs as a child or some other equally traumatic experience. Good on you for counting. The next time jdobbin's inner demons urge him to post a countdown of days we can remind him how many times he has posted on this thread... It all goes along with BDR/HDR ( Bush or Harper derangement syndrome) its easier to just SOB We used to call that game knock down ginger ...

All this has happened in the last 15 months? What programs have the CPC cut, that would bring such a speedy result and a report. I've searched CBC and googled but so far havn't found it. You should really change the title of your post until you can prove it. -

The Left Wing Belief that Evanglicals desire the destruction
scribblet replied to scribblet's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
You have an extremely selective definition of the word "hate" for someone who has a tendency to pepper all his contempt. Nonsense, critique and opposition is normal, but when the critique becomes malevolent and all out of proportion to the reality of the situation, and, is only meant to destroy and tear down, then it becomes something else. The Christophobia, and now this Dominionistaphobia is part of BDR /HDR. IMO this new dominionism isn't spreading anywhere near as much the phobias and likely is just the begginnings of all out anti-Christianism. I would save your contempt for those who would lash out and try to destroy what they cannot change by democratic means, those who would label a group of people who only want to bring peace, as those who would destroy. Like a child having a temper tantrum who can't get his own way. Who are they going to come for next. First they came for the communists, but I was not a communist, so I did not speak out. Then they came for the socialists and the trade unionists, but I was neither, so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew, so I did not speak out. And when they came for me, there was no one left to speak out for me. – Pastor Martin Niemoeller -
Age of Consent Hearings Moving Forward

The bill has go before the Senate which has a Liberal majority, it is not assured. Mind you, I think if they don't pass it will increase support for abolishing their jobs. I'm not clear what the following means, if appears that it is an attempt to remove the age of consent alltogether for anal sex. There's nothing on his website http://www.xtra.ca/public/viewstory.aspx?A...B_TEMPLATE_ID=3 http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2007/may/07050708.html NDPer Comartin, is now attempting to eliminate the requirement of an age of consent for anal sex altogether. In a private members bill introduced Wednesday Comartin seeks to strike down the Criminal Code clause restricting anal sex to those 18 and over. -

The Left Wing Belief that Evanglicals desire the destruction
scribblet replied to scribblet's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
As far as left and right go and pertaining to this issue, the people who are making these charges against these particular Christians usually refer to them as the 'Christian right', is there also a Christian left who would qualify as a dominionist or whatever? I've read up a bit on this as they seem to be confusing the Rapture with the Millenium. Dominionism as I understand it is definitely not mainstream anything including Evangelicalism , it is not even compatible with it. The Rapture as an idea is not that old: believe it was early 1800s or so. It is not a concept that is popular outside US Evangelicals, and probably unknown outside the English speaking world. It is not, for example, part of mainstream Anglicanism or I believe Catholisiscm. The Rapture is the idea that believers will be taken to heaven whilst non-believers stay on earth for a while. Arguments about whether this occurs before, during or after the Tribulation . I think this wild conspiracy theorizing about the Christian Right’s supposedly 'secret agenda' to bring on Armageddon is way too broad as there is only a minority of Christians who actually believe that and is just an excuse for the left to ignore democracy in an attempt to defeat the Bush republicans. Its all part of BDR. You might want to check on how many threads we have to wade through accusing Harper of being part of this vast right wing conspiracy to bring in a theological state. -
What, for instance has Mark Steyn ever done to qualify as a worst Canadian, and Amiel for that matter, other than that she's married to Black.

Anyone surprised at this? Maybe the House will have the common sense to pass a bill that allows drugs to be imported and there will be some compromise. http://www.newstarget.com/021834.html Consumers expecting a miracle in the Senate that would end Big Pharma's monopoly and the FDA-enforced drug racket now operating in the United States will be sorely disappointed by yesterday's events. Fifteen Democratic senators (led by Sen. Edward Kennedy) abandoned consumer interests and joined a Republican-organized amendment that would protect Big Pharma's stranglehold over U.S. consumers by blocking the importation of prescription drugs from other countries. The amendment in question is Senate Amendment 1010: "To protect the health and safety of the public," sponsored by Sen. Thad Cochran (R-MS) as an amendment to S.1082, the FDA reauthorization bill. also http://www.nytimes.com/glogin?URI=http://w...qIQ7EAQ251Q5Ezb WASHINGTON, May 7 -- The Senate voted on Monday to preserve current restrictions on the importing of lower-cost prescription drugs from Canada and other countries, fearing that such imports could pose risks to consumers, even with new safeguards. By a vote of 49 to 40, the Senate approved a measure saying that imports will not be allowed unless the secretary of health and human services first certifies that they "pose no additional risk to the public's health and safety," and that they will significantly reduce costs to consumers. Consumer advocates have long favored such imports as a way to make medicines more affordable. But health officials in the Clinton and Bush administrations have blocked such efforts, saying they cannot guarantee the safety of imported medicines. Senators Byron L. Dorgan, Democrat of North Dakota, and Olympia J. Snowe, Republican of Maine, were the chief sponsors of the original proposal, which would allow imports. "American consumers are paying the highest prices in the world for brand-name prescription drugs," Mr. Dorgan said. "We are trying to change that." Mr. Dorgan's proposal would have allowed consumers, pharmacists, drug wholesalers and distributors to import prescription drugs from Canada, Japan, Australia and European countries found to have regulatory requirements comparable to those in the United States. Arguing against the proposal, Senator Thad Cochran, Republican of Mississippi, cited an article in The New York Times on Sunday that described how people had died after taking medicines contaminated with a toxic, sweet-tasting syrup imported from China. -snip- President Bush had threatened to veto legislation that allowed drug imports outside the existing system. The White House said such legislation would "result in unsafe, unapproved and counterfeit drugs being imported into the United States."
