No anti-Israel ranting yet, but I wonder how long before someone will start the 'it's all Israel's fault' - then watch out.
-
It's been simmering because of the large number of unemployed young people and the need for reform. The Brotherhood didn't seemingly start this but are always waiting for a chance to stir the pot and take over. There has been a lot of unrest, see the fence between Palestine and Egypt, bombings of Christian churches, tunnels to the West Bank/Gaza, one wonders if the Brotherhood et al haven't been quietly stirring the pot. If Islamic fundamentalists take control of the most populous Muslim country in the world, it could be catastrophic. Same as if the Taliban took over Pakistan and it's nuclear arsenal.
-
Interesting how fast they could shut down the net isn't it? There's a lot at stake here if the Brotherhood manages to take over the protests, if Egypt should fall into a theocratic repression, the consequences would be catastrophhic. Not just for Egypt for the rest of the world.
-
They are banned in Egypt, a brotherhood takeover would be disastrous. They are anti west and anti Israel, Hamas is a branch of the Brotherhood.
-
I agree with that, what are the odds on them having a corruption free election, if they get that far. This is certainly a people's revolt, too many unemployed young people, but the Muslim Brotherhood is getting involved which isn't good news for democracy and reform. If they end up gaining control it will end up as an Islamist state.

There's a good chance it will spill over and escalate. Why would Obama want to stir it up, Egypt is a close ally, any escalation of violence is only bad for everyone.

Duceppe, Harper and Amphitheatres
scribblet replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
IMO Harper would gain more points by not giving in to Quebec, the ROC would applaud him, it could help win the election. -
I agree people don't connect to him, not necessarily because they view him as 'American' but because he has no inspiring leadership qualities or anything that would attract them to him or liberal policies - if they know what they are. Maybe if Bob Rae did another skinny dip with Mercer, it would negate his socialist contract baggage IMO he actually would be a better leader.

The latest poll from Abacus and done by Abacus, it wasn't commissioned by anyone. http://abacusdata.ca/2011/01/26/a-majority-of-canadians-support-the-death-penalty-but-only-40-want-it-reinstated/ methodology, download the report here. http://abacusdata.ca/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Death-Penalty-Release-Final.pdf Quote: “The Prime Minister’s comments on CBC are in line with a majority of Canadians,” said Dr. David Coletto, CEO of Abacus Data. “Although a majority personally support using the death penalty in certain circumstances, a majority also do not want to see it reinstated.” Harper will continue to uphold the charter and the wishes of Canadians, I don't see the death penalty coming up any time soon, even though the Liberals are trying to make it one. LOL

Really - they just released their latest batch.

5 years of Harper: Your report card?
scribblet replied to Moonlight Graham's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
More than likely they would, but this just shows the lack of understanding and the usual insulting waldo posts.... which is why I don't usually read them unless they happen to be quoted or referred to - not worth anyone's time replying to them. -
Good post.. I can't say I've seen anything 'mendacious' in the ads, well, except maybe the old Liberal ad about 'guns in the streets' and so on LOL

5 years of Harper: Your report card?
scribblet replied to Moonlight Graham's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I agree, I would give him a B-, considering that he's PM of a minority gov't he's done allright. I too agree with him not signing on to climate ponzi schemes. -
IMO this week's events showed the left wing media bias for what it is. However, I find it hard to believe that there is "a huge epidemic of mentally disturbed people, many with power and influence." that's stretching it.... Neither does believing that Obama is socialist make anyone mentally disturbed, by the lites of some, the CPC would be socialist. It's the difference in their politics and view points. The media is supposed to report, not bend and shape the news to their own ideological bent - don't we wish !

Does The NDP Still Have A Reason To Exist
scribblet replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I disagree that the CPC would love it, IMO the NDP split the vote, the Tories could lose if no NDP. It will be interesting to see what happens to them (and the Liberals) if the CPC does manage to do away with the political welfare subsidies, although the Liberals will be the most damaged. -
But but but.... we can't confine them against their will, or force them to take meds against their will... Media wordsmiths and spin artists are part of the problem, the media is supposed to report the news, not make it and shape it as they surely did this week. They rushed to judgement using their power to manipulate and idologically shape the event to their own bent. And, in so doing turned the whole thing into a partisan circus, branding numerous people as being responsible when in fact, they had zilch to do with it. Don't be a Dupnek about it LOL The left lost a lot this week, but I doubt much will change. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703791904576076373704758778.html?mod=WSJ_hpp_sections_opinion Why the Left Lost It

Interesting piece here with some good points. If the NDP didn't exist, would most of their supporters gravitate to the Liberals, thus giving them a majority? http://www.therecord.com/opinion/columns/article/473070--the-ndp-no-longer-has-a-reason-to-exist The NDP no longer has a reason to exist

Why Stephen Harper will call for an election
scribblet replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
What a load of rubbish, unsubstantiated supposition. LOL I agree we need to do away with welfare for political parties. -
Poll: Harper Out of Touch With Canadians
scribblet replied to refreshrefillrepeat1's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well, according to the latest poll the CPC has a 7 point lead... guess it's the Red Star that's out of touch. -
Another good one LOL I like the comments from one Ozzie who has a good point. We should be preparing for climate change and global cooling.

Tories are again lowering the corporate Taxes
scribblet replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yeah, I know but time will tell on this one, at least if the Tories can stay in gov't, otherwise the Liberals will raise them, so we'll never know.
