Teachers brainwashing our children?
scribblet replied to Mr.Canada's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
This was years ago and Grade school, it was the particular principal who did away with that program, not sure if was done across all schools, or what they do now. I know around the same time discussions were taking place on streaming students into the vocational schools, and testing a program for a special grade 9 group who would be given a chance at a year in a regular high school rather than automatically streamed into the vocational school. All in the name of equalizing students. (I agreed with the gr. 9 option). -
Nowhere has that been said, the committee's request for changes came long before SunTV was on the horizon.

I must say I just about choked on my java when I read the HP piece, I doubt that I've read anything so wrong and misleading ( well the Guardian did a good one a while back), it simply boggles the mind. check this out from the NP - delusional profundity is right... who wants to write to the HP correcting their 'errors'... http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2011/03/01/tasha-kheiriddin-robert-f-kennedy-jr-vs-sun-tv-news/

Appeals court sides with elections Canada...
scribblet replied to William Ashley's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Such rulings cannot be automatically appealed to the Supreme Court of Canada; the party must seek leave to appeal, which they will do. I agree Chretien had to know (about adscam), I've always felt that he was in on it. Is EC going after those Liberal and NDP MPs who did the same thing which was mentioned in the original committee meeting, and what about the Liberal leadership loans - it sure appears that this has become political with EC. Also don't forget that this is about spending too much of their own money, while the greater Liberal scandals such as the one involving Cretien was about stealing and spending our money. -
And that the voters don't buy into the manufactured crisis....
-
That's your opinion - the scariest two words for me and many others are - A Liberal Majority - even worse an NDP Majority  Harper will not 'call an election', meaningless or otherwise, it will be up to the opposition to vote for or against.

Orchard may have been screwed over but the merge was not without a majority vote agreeing to it, there had to be a 2/3 majority. -

This decision needs to go to the Supreme Court of Canada. IMO the integrity and fairness of the electoral system is maintained by ensuring that the most popular party wins, not by "leveling the playing field" so that less popular parties are given a leg up. It also seems to have implications for the CPC moving to do away with the cash welfare the parties receive quarterly as that does not result in a 'level playing field' does it, some get way more than others. -

Teachers brainwashing our children?

No animosity, just get (or did get) annoyed at their bias in the classroom, I did feel animosity towards the unions for striking so often and using the kids as hostages. They didn't seem to care about the kids at all, in fact the thuggery re: Nippissing when the union suggested they might retaliate by denying job placements to Nipissing students is an example of attacking students for political purposes. I was also upset at the dumbing down of the system, where the principal of our school saw fit to do away with awards of excellence and competition because all are equal doncha know. No more special ed classes for those students who excelled and needed more stimulation, not fair to the others doncha know. Both my boy lost out on that one, they were enjoying the additional stimulation offered. If I could have afforded it I would have sent my kids to private school, I know the voucher system isn't popular, but under a voucher system I can see schools of excellence springing up, one size doesn't fit all in the school system. So - we suffer through a dumbing down caused by the triumvirate of Unions, School Boards and Teachers too self interested to buck the system, allowing teachers to push a left wing socialist engineered agenda, at least in Toronto. The Toronto school board was well known for it's leanings - and still is by the look of it. http://www.insidetoronto.com/community/education/article/911857--downtown-left-wing-to-lead-school-board I'm not involved with schools anymore, but from where I sit, there is a lot of social engineering going on. -
Layton has some adds out, so an election must be in the wind as spending pre-writ campaign money is unusual for the NDP. One thing Layton could score points on is the HST debacle, if he can successfully link it to Harper in Ontario especially, he could score some votes. The HST is hated, but the left blames it all on Harper although it was a choice, made by McGuinty who could easily have said no, but chose to accept it. If the NDP can hammer it home that it was all Harper's fault, he could be a winner.

Oh right - I forgot - he was a 'bad person' for standing up to a huge union which was holding our kids hostage. They are still politicizing the classrooms. teachers going nuts and threatening students to get their own way. Classy lot. http://www.torontosun.com/comment/columnists/john_snobelen/2010/06/11/14360076.html -

It's been a long time since I've had kids in school, but when they were I used to say that you had to inoculate them against the school system. At that time it wasn't anything to do with teaching about acceptable alternate lifestyles, or Jane has two mommies etc., it was to do with not allowing a child to excel or achieve a higher standing, it was about political correctness and lowering standards to accommodate other groups, I felt they always taught to the lowest common denominator. I tend to agree that many of the classes and teachings have a liberal bent, during the Harris years teachers did tend to teach socialist politics with anti-conservative views (when they weren't on strike that is) and likely still do. No time for all of it, but I did complain to the high school about the one sided political bent LOL Teachers should keep their personal political opinions to themselves and when teaching about politics etc. they should give both sides of the issue, not promote one side or the other. There was a case in Aurora, of a 16 yr. old High School boy, who complained that he didn't want to hear what he called, his teacher's left-wing political rants. ... there was an investigation but the links I had no longer work. -
I guess the question now is, should Canada attempt to rescue him or negotiate something, and if so at what cost ?
-
I disagree, Bob Rae will be a far more formidable opponent, his particular problem is his Ontario baggage.
-
Agree with that, and also agree that maybe we have hit the bottom of the barrel when it comes to morals and values. It does seem that society seems to be more accepting of much laxity in behaviours, e.g. is there such a thing as promiscuity anymore, does anything go? Society does have certain rules and codes of conduct but at what point do we say enough, or should we care at all ?
-
I don't agree that Harper will engineer his own defeat, the Liberals might do that all on their own.. LOL I agree Bob Rae will be the next leader which is why an election is needed to get rid of Ignatieff -( Liberals will lose again, therefore Iggy will have to go).

Here we go, we just can't believe everything we read in the media, supposition and innuendo hmmm http://www.torontosun.com/news/canada/2011/02/26/17419896.html cont...

The concept here, is to paint the CPC as black as possible giving the opposition a chance to run with their own narrative. If they continue to push it to the brink of an election, chances are high that it will backfire on them. from the CPC Memo * We are disappointed that Elections Canada filed these administrative charges after losing in federal court and not waiting for the appeal court's decision in that matter. * We are not surprised by the decision to lay administrative charges. These are not criminal charges. Elections Canada has been pushing for these charges for nearly two years. * This is another step in the long-running accounting dispute with Elections Canada - we have been arguing about this for nearly 5 years now. * Our Party plays by the same rules as everyone else. We followed those rules. * Both the Liberals and NDP used regional media buys in the 2006 election; and the Liberals, NDP and Bloc Quebecois all executed fund transfers in both 2004 and 2006 -
Thanks for the vote of confidence - and why not JBG actually ? I agree there needs to be a few facilitators, and no word at all from Greg....

There is no reason to prosecute them, especially in light of the court ruling, the least they could do is wait for the results of their appeal. If their appeal is lost, what then ! -

scribblet replied to William Ashley's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
He is democratically elected and as was said and could be on their way to a majority - so - no there is no reason for people to protest, the country is ticking along nicely. Maybe not always the way some want it to, maybe not left wing enough yadda yadda, but it's all good. Let me know if there's a protest - I'll get my own sign Harper Stay !! -

Yeah, even at the CBC as that maggoty Evan Soloman, Power & Politics guy at CBC News Net, is feeding off it today.
