If I read BB's post correctly he said that the Conservatives would win a minority with Iggy as leader, but a majority with any other leader. It was a little confusing though.

Gen. Hillier: Most Taliban are "moderates"

It's quite humourous how NDPers blowing things out of proportion and can't spell? Why would we consider Layton crazy? Hmmm ..... because he is. -

Hey betsy, quit trying to be reasonable. Remember who you are responding to. Always attacking Harper and the Conservatives, never giving them credit no matter what they do. -
'Come clean' on Arar, Harper tells Bush.

Nope, but Harper is just being a shrewd. A public admission of guilt before a settlement can only make any settlement that much bigger ... and cost the Government more money. Nobody is saying Harper shouldn't issue an apology. Just not yet. -

Very good point. Welcome Alexandra. Nice to see a breathe of fresh air, and reasoned thinking, here at MLW. -

No this isn't anti-Americanism. Harper has moved the relationship with the U.S. to the professional level it belongs to be conducted on. This means that when the Canadian PM has an issue, he calls the US President directly instead of calling press conferences or communicating via press releases. No MPs stomping on Bush dolls. etc... Don't think there is no potential cost to Bush in responding to Harper in an appetizing way to Canadians. There has always been an isolationist element to the U.S. electorate. My guess is Bush will issue an apology *after* the mid-term elections. -
By him you mean Harper? Hmmm, I think my Conservatives will win the next election. I have said this before, Rae has the best chance of holding us to a minority. Rae definitely couldn't win, but he will keep it close.

Piss off, don't tell me to grow up. Just who is trying to bait who? Gerry's *mistake* was in saying that the majority of Canadians don't support the mission in Afghanistan. Which they clearly do from the results of the OP. Haven't seen him concede anything? Is he truly allowed to attack people over and over? Why not tell him to grow up?
-
Shark, don't get worried about it. Gerry is allowed to attack posters here on MLW. But if you say anything back you'll get a *warning*. Life isn't always fair. But the vast majority of posters here see Gerry's attacks as mean-spirited and unfair. He has insulted enough people, time and again that he should be gone. For some reason he has been given free rein to break the rules.

As history looks back on Harper I think it will show him to be on of the best tactical politicians in Canadian history. In an era where a substantial number of Canadians aren't really willing to support either major party Harper looks like he will win a string of little victories on the path to the next election. -
I didn't think you were Paul Wells ... no stammering in your typing. (Not very nice ricki ) Agreed Kennedy has *some* potential, but the race is more than just appealing to Ontario. My vibe is that the second to last ballot will have Iggy-Kennedy-Dion. With a very interesting choice for Dion and Kennedy. The decision at that point will depend on a lot of things still to be determined. Kennedy is probably the better long-term choice for the Liberals, but selecting him as leader would be basically conceding the next election to the Conservatives.

From today's Globe and Mail. Good work. The Americans went too far on the Arar file. harper is going to take them to task. So much for Harper being a lapdog of GW...
-
The story, including the exact translation verbatim, is from a Paul Wells article in the current issue of Maclean's. Geoffrey are you or are you not Paul Wells? Seriously, the Paul Wells piece on Dion is interesting. Although I don't see Dion changing enough people's minds at the convention to win. You never know. If the ABIggy movement picks up some steam, he's got a shot...

Which Liberal candidate can defeat Harper?
Ricki Bobbi replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Palpable passion about the country? wtf? The only people who would think that are gonna vote Liberal no matter what and fooling themselves that swing voters see Rae that way? Who really cares what job a politicians father had? Is there that little for you to attack Harper on that you have to go after his father? For earning an honest living? -

That's how they would try and sell Rae. Even Liberal delegates can tell that one won't pass the laugh test. I'll bet anything Rae doesn't even make it to the final ballot. -
We Must Protect ALL Minorities
Ricki Bobbi replied to SamStranger's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Uhh, we are talking about freedom of speech. Constitution Act, 1982. 2. Everyone ha the following fundamental freedoms: B - freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression... that is the freedom SSM opponents are afraid might be trampled on. -

The Knights of Columbus are far from a business operating *under the guise* of a religious organization. They have always been a Catholic men's farternal benefit society. Your implication this affiliation is some kind fo ruse is just plain false. -
Bruce Cockburn hasn't even been considered a celebrity by low Canadian standards for the last decade or so. "If a tree falls in the forest, just goes to show the p.o.s. songs that will get played because of CanCon laws." :lol"

The right to protest isn't the right to invade the personal space and security of the head of our country. The RCMP detail should have all been fired for letting the protester get so close. -
How can George Strombopopadopolis not win the award in a walk? Probly because nobody watches that p.o.s. show of his on newsworld. If anybody actually watched that show they would have to vote for him.

Master of the obvious, eh? If one of the three don't back off to kickstart an ABIggy movement, Ignatieff has it in the bag.
