That is sleazier than dead people *signing* up for memberships and children donating vast sums to the party? Hmmm...

Stephen Harper using the troops AGAIN.

Question ignored, again so I'll repeat it again? -

Gerry, you still haven't answered the question. So I'll put it in really small words for you. What would you have said if Harper did not get the support of Parliament for making the mission in Afghanistan longer? -
I hadn't heard about any Conservatives signing up dead people or getting donations in excess of $5k from children. But then again *particularly sleazy* depends on who you support...

Support for Harper Government dropping
Ricki Bobbi replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It does dispute what you said in the OP. Man Gerry, it must be tough to be as obstinate as you stay in spite of mounds of evidence proving you wrong. -
And the reality is it caught up to Martin and bit him in the butt. There is so little that Volpe could offer in terms of credibility or actual delegates it is truly more throuble than it's worth.
-
That's Paul Martin thinking. Peddle your arse for support anywhere you can get it. That's not leadership. Besides, I would trust the commitment of a Joe Volpe delegate as much as I would trust Volpe himself.
-
As a former cabinet minister and leadership contender, for a different party, this is the right forum for this. It appears the rumours about Tie and Belinda have a little more support. From his wife's affidavit filed in court last week. Link here.

And risk losing the dozen or so delegates committed to Volpe?

Support for Harper Government dropping

You gotta consider the source. -
According to Bob Fife on CTV. A *source* said that the only reason Joe Volpe is staying in the race is to stick it to (i.e. f*ck over) Iggy.... tsk tsk tsk So much for a strong and united Liberal Party of Canada.

Riskier than a government bond doesn't necessarily have to be very risky at all. If you want the Government to subsidize your retirement so be it, but that isn't a valid reason to argue for the Government not paying of its debt.
-
I agree with your point in general. The above part of your post is just plain wrong. There is no tradition of outgoing President's be pardoned by their successors. The only time I could find where a President pardoned their predecessor was in 1974 when Ford pardoned Nixon. Ford took a huge hit. The biggest drop in public opinion since opinion polling began. Here are a couple sources on the issue.

That's the key. Imagine the fiscal shape we would be in if the Liberals had decided to just run balanced books back in the mid 90s and didn't keep running surpluses? Pay off the debt! Pay off the debt! Pay off the debt!

I think Paul Wells said it best about these guys.

The Conservatives are in a no win situation with respect to tax cuts. They cut the consumption tax and people say it was meaningless and won't make a differnece in people's lives. If they cut taxes to allow people too pay off their mortgages it would be criticized as a tax cut for the *rich*. They'll stick with their plan and let the lefties whine. No issues with paying down the debt. There would be no issues with zero net government debt. Like I've said many times Paul Martin was a great finance minister and equally as bad as PM. Hmmmm, I wonder if he would come out of retirement to be Harper's finance minister?

Stephen Harper using the troops AGAIN.

And if Harper hadn't put extending the mission to a vote in Parliament you would have started threads over and over and over again about he was being despicably undemocratic. We get your point Gerry. You don't like the Prime Minister. You just spread lies about him. Interpret everything he does as negatively as possible. Always change the topic of every thread to an attack on the man. If you don't hate him I hate to see how you treat somebody you do hate! My only boss is the one who signs my cheques. Oh I get it, you have never worked so you don't understand what a boss really is. -
Stephen Harper using the troops AGAIN.

The Government didn't threaten the troops with a loss of support. Every government member voted to extend the mission.... -

Here is the original question. Where is the falsehood Gerry? -
Wow. There's some fair and even-handed analysis.
-
Uh, yeah Gerry. Rae has been described as many things, but passionate and charismatic aren't usually among the descriptions used.

Do you honestly think there is any chance the Germans will try and extradite Mulroney? Can't see them even trying that. A former head of state from a fellow G7 country being extradited over a questionable business deal. Has that ever happened with any set of G7 countries ever?
