That's the problem. They are treated very, very unfairly by the media here in Canada which is lead by the CBC. Remember when Lebanon happened and people were freaking out becaue there wasn't sandwiches being served on the ships? He was doing so well in the polls until that happened and the media launched assults against him. Ever since he supported Isreal he's never had the same populatiry. Now this happens. It's like we just can't win. I'd like to see a poll taken next Monday on Conservative support after this. I know it's not the Canadian 'way' to step down where there is smoke. But now is a good time to start and a perfect oppertunity to enhance the image of the party. I'm disapointed in both Harper and Tom Lukiwski for not doing the right thing for the party seing as they are both politicians and understand the 'game'.

While I agree, I feel that under the current political situation for the Conservatives, right now, he should do the right thing for the party and step down which will do nothing but enhance the image of the party. If not, Harper should toss him out and hold a news confrence so the story can die. John Kerry did it for his party (comments about not going to school and you 'end up in Iraq') Remember that time Harper didn't show up for that HIV confrence in Toronto and the party got all these labels of being homophobic and such? All that because he said he had other obligations and didn't attend a special intrest confrence. The CBC and mainstreme media fuled a lot of it. The same is happening agian. This time the news is bigger and the 'common person' in Canada is aware of this situation which isn't a good thing. It's about leadership and integrity for the party.

You are talking about immigrants that came here in the 1960's. The 'exceptions'. I'm talking about everyone else. The vast majority.

Those 'cultures' are christian and will let you marry into their family. They join the military and do not cause political strife and instability (see Dion getting elected at the Libearl convention because of Sikh groups swaying a vote 'unnatrually'). What we have here are racist, xenephobic people of other religions, and, their cultures treated almost as a religion. People from the poorest corners of the earth who are still in the stone age and who know nothing else but to get involved politically. We have terrorists. These people are the worst that any country can ask for (with few exceptions). They have not contributed, they have just use our system, moving back to their countries, coming back for their tripple bypass surgeries, costing us our healthcare system, creating violent crimes and 'no go' areas, and have done NOTHING for Canada but to ensure the Liberal ridings are secured.

That only 23% of them are net contributors to Canada. Every other coutry on earth will only allow temporary workers in under employment sponsorship. Some will let you immigrate eventually. Canada (and possibly australia) are the only countries that just allow people to wander in on some points test.

And this people is exactly why he should get the boot out of the party right away and put this issue to rest. I hope Harper does the right thing. Actually, I hope he just steps down. Part of being in a political party is protecting the name of the party and it's reputation. You can't put your power trip first. (peronsally, i don't care much what personal views he has on gay people. My issue is the parties reputation).

While I agree, I'm ultimately a realist and understand the typical Canadian voter pretty well and where their priorities are: the media telling them what to think are important issues (ie: race, religion, gay issues, climate change). This issue is food for them and the cbc. I feel that for the good of the party, he should step down and do the right thing for the party. I'm a bit upset that he hasn't. I don't care about their indian schooling. Work with a south asian in an office environment as compared to someone from the Ukraine or Poland. Heck, even sometimes Chinese. You will see the start, vast difference. At one time south asians were not allowed into Canada because they were called 'unassimable'. I feel the same way. Since us here in Canada are into pasting labels on minorities and cultures, let me be the first: I consider south asians to be a unassimable overall with few exceptions. I also find immigrants from the carribian to be the same. Both should not be allowed to immigrate at all IMO. They have politically grouped together, caused an increased in crime (carribean), have broughten their racism, xenephobia, and politics here. Yet we in Canada seem to want the largest from the to 'worst' groups. Yes.. they vote Liberal.

Like all things in Canadian politics, you have to look past the window dressings and then look out that window for motives. What's happening? They are simply going to cap applications (70% of those family sponsorship to use services and assistance.. also thousands of HIV postive) and choose those who best meet the demands 'of Canada'. Yeah it's an old line, but Finley was talking about shortages in the 'true' term of what our shortages are - low paid labor. She gave examples of sandwich factory workers, line cooks, etc when she was on CBC radio earlier this week. Motives? I don't think there is any. They are poeple who fille their pockets with my tax dollars and pre-occupy their time with issues that are of other countries and should have nothing to do with the daily function of Canada. They also don't work a 9-5. We pay for them. And the ethnic newspapers, and the mosques, and the sikh/hindu temples, and their ethnic schooling. Man.. The chances are good that an italian girl from Woodbridge will let you marry her. The chances are poor that a south asian girl from Brampton will let you marry her. That's the most raw, fundemental example of racism I can give and that's why I use the marriage example. The marriage is a proof positive of integration from the people and families involved. And no, most businesses in Brampton are certainly not south asian owned. Much of it is old industry. They come to 'live' here and use services, not to pay taxes and create employment. However, I cannot say the same for Italians as you might see them plowing snow, in an office, roofing a building, laying stucco, opening business, investing, etc.

Yes. I first stickup for my neibourhood, then the province, then my country. Those are the groups I belong to. Saying that because some stranger is a member of 'my group' because their skin is of the same shade is racism. It's that simple and it thrives and is encouraged in Canada. You say that most muslims have integrated fine into Canada. Question: Will most mulsims let you marry their daughter? Answer: No. Until you can answer yes, they are not integrated.

For those who don't live in Toronto or have never been here, the above is an *excellent* depection of how people treat each other socially here and the reason why I call Toronto the most racist city in the world. While no one is getting upset in the above scenario, it's the above that promotes racism and segregations between people that should all be working together. Everyone here in Toronto will paint a label on you and judge you by your race.

I guess the question becomes 'why'. Mainstreme left Canadian women on the wedding forums looking for wedding dress stores specifying they do not want Italian owned businesses and no one has a problem with that. Then there was our ex-minister of immigration trying to run for leader of the Liberal party and they openly said that he was not 'Canadian' enough. It fell on def ears. Imagine they said that to a Sikh or Muslim Liberal member? How has it become socially acceptable? That's easy. It's the Italians themselves who make it socially acceptable. Not me, or you, but the Italians. The South Asians and Muslims (mostly more south asians) have defined themselves as a fragile baby just waiting to cry if they get held the wrong way. Thus they have to be babied. The onus is on them to integrate, not on us to integrate them. The fact that we can tease Italians, and, to a lesser extent Chinese, shows that they integrate better IMO. The fact that we cannot say the same about Muslims, south Asians, and Natives show that they are less integrated and chooes THEMSELVES not to integrate. Instead they create a political vacuum within Canada and create pockets in Canada which IMO, if left unchecked will attempt to seperate from Canada many decades from now. They try to make themselves into these special status Canadians as to where Italians, and other historic immigrants did not. As long as our Parlementary system stays intact, they will always be pandered to for votes.

The above statement is why most italians have integrated and most south asians and other asians have not and most likely will not. I personally do not appreciate Italians in general and choose not to do business with them if I don't have to. Italians... 'bug me'. I am planning a wedding and now I know why people on wedding forums specifically ask for non-italian owned businesses. It's funny how myself, and other whites can say these things about Italians and not be labeled racists. However, you talk about a Muslim or Sikh and you are a racist. I think this is because we subconsciously consider italian canadians to be Canadian, although many of them do not. Those who do not should leave the country. Survey says that almost half Canadian born children of visible minority status do NOT identify themselves as Canadian (most likely due to the racist, xenephobic policies taught by their parents). I ask an open question if you feel these people should reside in Canada. I ask you how these people benefit Canada. I ask you how these people will be good neighbours and citizens. The aging population is going to create 'mass job shortages' (they've been saying this since I was a kid and up until the dollar value at par, we've had historically high unemployment throught Canada with few exceptions). Nova Scotia has a thousands of Univeristy grads each year, +7% unemployment, yet the CBC says they 'desperately need skilled immigrants'. Just how stupid, for how *long* do you think Canadians are going to be towards immigration? Especially when citizens can now havea voice and broadcast themslves on Youtube?

Unfortunately, a group of 16 school trustees has the power to determine the kind of country we would like to live in with our provincial gov't claiming they have no say in this matter even though they don't agree with it. Well, last night, we went a step further then religious faith based schooling and decided to focus on race and skin color as the determining factor of the school. They will be gearing the curriculum towards 'Afro based' studies. The parents last night demanded that they only wanted black teachers. Before everyone gets emotional on the issue, back up and realize that almost everyone there was a carribian immigrant. This issue has nothing to do with the US and their black slavory issues so please don't parrallel the two. In the US, Miss Park sat at the front of the bus not to segregate herself, but to sit with everyone else, to integrate. This is just another immigrant group using their diversity as a tool to get into our political system and establish a power base as they continue to push for more. This is more immigrant segregation as they try to re-create their home countries in chosen settlements in Canada. NOT the same thing has the historic blacks in the US so please don't go there. Now we'll have new generations of even more racially segregated kids who will simply not be able to function in the real world and blame all of their woes on 'other races'. Violence will come eventually. What a truly, truly sad day to be a Canadian.
