  1. The conditions in any ME state are not "peachy". Gaza was about average. The blockade and wars were due to rockets being launched. After the withdrawal from Gaza, a more constructive option to start building a Palestinian state would have been to adopt a constitution that does not call for the killing of all Jews.
  2. I agree. I'm sure that many Gazans, originally from Egypt, would like to move. Yet the border is sealed. You seem to partially agree with the Trump "plan". Also, your stance logically condones immigration (both Arabs and Jews) into Palestine (Ottoman and British mandate) then Jews into Israel. Yes, indeed it was a Nakba for the Arab armies that attacked Israel with the goal of complete genocide. It was not a Nakba for those Arabs that stayed in Israel and whose 2 million descendants enjoy the most freedom than any other Arabs living in the ME. Refugees are a very unfortunate part of war. The right if return is very rare and even more rare is the passing down of refugee status from one generation to the next. I can't think of anywhere else in the world where this applies.
  3. The 2005 Israeli withdrawal from Gaza was a test for a 2-state solution. The test proved that a Palestinian state would be led by Hamas and try to annihilate Israel.
  4. Israeli's are free to emigrate, many come to Canada. There are many Gazans from Egypt. Why can't they emigrate, if they so choose?
  5. The Trump plan is not serious. One Israeli plan involves evacuating Gazans that want to leave voluntarily. Do you have a link to the actual poll? Also, I would be interested in hearing about your plan.
  6. PR is absolutely part of the war, however, I would argue that despite the protests Israel it at least competitive in this war. Support for Israel is very strong where it counts: the leaders of the West, especially the USA. I also think that the silent majority (of non-Muslim people) also support Israel. Overall PR has not significantly hampered the war. The hostage situation is way more problematic to Israel. If/when the hostages are released, either the cease fire holds (unlikely) or Hamas launches missiles then Israel will have another chance to attack without all the internal pressure from the internal Israeli hostage-release-pressure-groups.
  7. In addition, the war (including the events in Lebanon, Syria, Iran and Yemen) has significantly strengthened Israel's position. It is obvious to any reasonable person that Israel is here to stay. Hopefully the majority of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank will one day realize this.
  8. You cam try to follow his links where he talk more about it: https://www.euractiv.com/section/climate-environment/opinion/eu-must-get-smarter-to-lead-on-climate-change/
  9. yet the entire effort will merely reduce temperatures by the end of the century by a trivial 0.004°C.
  10. "the EU switched focus and in its myopic climate obsession opted for a “sustainable” economy over a sound one. The EU’s decision to increase its 2030 emission reduction targets was pure virtue-signalling. The cost is likely to top several trillion Euros, yet the entire effort will merely reduce temperatures by the end of the century by a trivial 0.004°C." https://www.msn.com/en-ca/money/topstories/bjorn-lomborg-climate-spending-costs-the-world-more-than-climate-change-does/ar-AA1xzRiO?ocid=winp1taskbar&cvid=6343fd26c47b490e828d053553b06fca&ei=55
  11. The predicted costs of climate change is 1.9-3.1 % of GDP 75 years from now Canada is spending "only" 0.5% of GDP now, but consider: -Today's spending will not reduce the above costs of climate change, and is therefore wasteful -What is the opportunity cost of that wasteful spending? If wisely invested, today's 0.5 % of GDP would surely greatly surpass 3% of GDP in 75 years. -Many Canadians (including Mark Carney?) passionately advocate for a dramatic increase in wasteful climate action spending, this article effectively outlines why that is a very bad policy.
  12. What are your thoughts about the hostages? Also, my understanding is that no released poisoners are going back to Gaza.
  13. There is a chance that Hamas stays in power yet respects the terms of the ceasefire.
  14. Maybe the border can be solidified like North and South Korea?
  15. https://www.timesofisrael.com/full-text-of-the-hostage-ceasefire-agreement-reached-between-israel-and-hamas/ What do you think about this deal? I hope that the deal holds and there is an end to all killing. I hope that most of the hostages are alive and will recover, especially Shiri Bibas and her sons Ariel, and Kfir, who were abducted from Kibbutz Nir Oz when they were 4 and 9 months old. Unfortunately they are probably dead.
  16. I am normally a very nice and pro-peace person. I try my best to be empathetic to all people and even animals. I hate suffering and loathe to celebrate the death of anyone. This is an exception! Sinwar and his co-terrorists have caused so much suffering - especially to the Palestinian people - the world is better of without him!
  17. Step 1: The Palestinian leaders and people of Gaza and the West Bank must recognize Israel's right to exist and stop violence. Yes, I believe that this is possible, Egypt did it, Jordan did it and the 2 million Palestinians living in Israel did it.
  18. Thanks, it is a difficult question to answer and I don't blame you for dodging it. First point: It is difficult to know if sex selection is taking place, however in some situations it is clear, for example: -Girl born -Abortion -Abortion -Boy born Second point: There are other options than abortion or a lifetime of abuse.
  19. Interesting discussion (mostly) so far. I am sympathetic to both sides. Question for you Perspektiv: At 12-13 weeks we can determine the sex of the "baby". Is it OK to abort if you don't like the sex?
  20. I know that people that live in Vancouver (and Toronto) think that its all about them - newsflash: it's not. Also, the majority of Canadians live in a single-detached house. Is it possible that apartment/condo sizes are declining because more people are living alone or as couples without kids?
  21. "Though data is sparse for Canada, it appears that the average size of a new house has doubled since the 1970s." https://www.darrinqualman.com/house-size/#:~:text=Though data is sparse for, even faster than house size.
  22. The Real GDP per capita chart was Canada. Disposable income was both Canada and the US. I assume that US median house size is similar than Canada.
  23. Interesting article, but wrong and whiney: "The proportion of young adults who live in a parent’s home more than doubled between 1971 and 2021, from 8% to 17%" OK, sure but here's why: First, it is way more comfortable to stay at home -The median home size is up ~40 % -Number of bathrooms is up -Number of brothers and sisters is down Also, we in the west now have the luxury of extending our adolescence well into our twenties. My feeling is that overall it is as challenging now to buy a home compared to 1972. On one hand, yes, home prices are up. On the other hand, financing is down, wages are up, and other costs are down. Regarding the increase of the price of Disney vacations, I'm sure attendance is way up and if prices are up too this is a sign of prosperity.
  24. Yes, we are humans and have perspectives. -We are wired to see problems/threats over opportunities/rewards by about 10 to 1. If our pre-historic ancestors missed a threat they died. -Rewards make us happy and losses make us sad. Again the ratio is about 10 to 1. If winning a $100 gives you a +5 in happiness points, loosing $10 will give you -5 points. -We quickly get used to rewards then those rewards become the new normal. For example, if you get a Christmas bonus of $500 per year for 3 years, then on year 4 you get $400, you will feel like you lost $100. -We are always comparing ourselves to others. This is why our perspectives are often wrong. Per hour worked gas, groceries and almost all basic necessities are cheaper now than in the past. We have always had issues with health care and always will. Other countries without mass immigration also have these issues.
