  1. Hillary would still have the excess regulations in place, high corporate tax, and possibly implement carbon pricing.
  2. Yet being the key word...
  3. Trump is betting on economic growth to get the country's finances back in order and is willing to spend a trillion through tax cuts and infrastructure spending to do it. had Hillary won, Ontario and Quebec would be in a lot better shape as they would still be competitive.
  4. I'm concerned about higher growth in Ontario due to a housing bubble. Quebec still has a lot of debt to pay off that accumulated before. there are things that trump is going to do that will make us less competitive such as lowering the corporate tax rate, not implementing a carbon tax, and opening the spigots on energy. On top of that his meddling in the market (not good in the long run) is telling companies to invest in the USA vs elsewhere. like I've said I believe Ceta will be very beneficial to eastern Canada and putting an oil pipeline there will help lower fuel costs for them.
  5. BC was never a laggard period high dollar or low dollar. Ontario and Quebec are growing based on massive debt which isn't sustainable. If trump enacts his campaign promises, the party is over in central Canada unless they can start exporting to Europe through the ceta (on a side note that's why I believe that energy east should be approved asap)
  6. I agree, O'Leary is very good at getting air time on all the media and social media. It is going to be a very divisive campaign and very dependant on the economy as Trudeau is a very likeable and media savvy prime minister. The other Tory candidates pissed away their chance at getting recognition. I can remember Trudeau being quite effective at getting his name out there even though he has the famous last name.
  7. That would be all fine and good except that we depend on the USA for their products, inventions, and locations which results in our high standard of living. Machinery, vehicles, tech, vacations, products. As argus points out in his post things that are basic are covered by our low dollar - food which we produce a lot of, shelter - we build those, electricity - well that one is up in the air as oil is priced in US dollars and energy is priced based on that. But as far as things that actually improve our living standards, they are typically made in the USA or are priced at US dollars. Unfortunately for us, the USA out innovates, out produces us. Not only that, the commodities we use to make the few things that we do are priced in USA dollars which in essence a low dollar hurts in that regard. ideally Canada wins with a higher dollar and yet continues to grow its exports.
  8. A higher dollar makes it easier to buy American machinery as your purchasing power increases and you won't get dinged on the exchange.
  9. And when the dollar is higher or at par one can cross the line and buy American products. Buying machinery or vehicles sucks right now. As does taking trips down south.
  10. Wrong. A low dollar reduces purchasing power as does a tax increase. Given that a lot of products are imported from the USA a higher dollar is better. How is a low valued currency doing for Venezuela?
  11. I don't. A low dollar is a tax in essence.
  12. Why should she get mentioned? Her big policy is the hornets nest that turn a lot of people off. She is perceived as her Schtick is the Canadian values thing (individual Canadians decide those not the government) over the economy. she has taken the bait hook line and sinker... how do I take someone seriously who fiddled while Rome burns?
  13. That also depends on who the backbenchers are and if they can be the type of personality to drum up support. Harper should have been punted by his caucus in 2013-2014 but who was a strong enough personality to pull something like that off. Power is where power is perceived to be...
  14. At least Kevin O'Leary can say I've fronted some of my money to help ordinary people out, which he has. O'Leary is good at getting messages out in 20 second bites which will help. I think this election will be a referendum on trudeaus economy and a lot of people will start learning some things about the economy.
  15. O'Leary has said he will play nice in the leadership race and hasn't slagged his competitors publicly which is a good thing. I don't think we in Canadian politics have seen an alpha like that in some time. O'Leary would be wise to take note of what happened to Chrétien and thatcher from overseas. Idealy I would like to see a party leader selected from sitting mps which balances power.
  16. But that's how the left wins lots of elections themselves is by taking complex issues and communicating them in sound bites. I'm not knocking them for it as it's effective and gets results. O'Leary has finally been able to do that. i think you would agree in a proper way of projecting economics whether one is on the left or right takes much longer than the 20 second talking heads on the news channels.
  17. It's not just the economy, it's that O'Leary knows how to use the camera vs Harper. O'Leary has a simple message which helps.
  18. It's easy for you to say life is not easy. Hers is made much more difficult at the hands of government so socialists can pay themselves on the back and waste more money. People aren't entitled to the government arbitrarily crapping on them No we don't need to curb emissions. We are less than two percent. The USA isn't doing nothing about theirs and I'm not wanting to be poorer so that socialists can waste money. Canada has a free market and it has worked a lot better when there is less government. India has an over regulated market which is why they can't grow. Your referring to the black market which happens when the government meddles too much such as Venezuela. And they made the deal because they got outcompeted by North America. Apparently 50$ is what's sustainable for them not 3 cents. The financial post said it not me. Ontario is a net receiver of equalization now for the better part of the decade yet they are still massively in debt. http://www.financialpost.com/m/wp/news/economy/blog.html?b=business.financialpost.com/news/economy/with-twice-the-debt-of-california-ontario-is-now-the-worlds-most-indebted-sub-sovereign-borrower Not my fault Ontario politicians couldn't run a lemonade stand and now have to lower people's living standards to pay for their mess.
  19. She's not destroying the earth. The earth isn't getting destroyed as carbon levels fluctuate over time which is why a lot of people are rightfully skeptical of the left wing zealots popping an Unnecessary tax on carbon which lowers our standard of living
  20. Well in Ontario it's quite clear that taxation has stifled growth. It's hard to get blood from a stone. the question is how much tax is actually necessary
  21. http://www.dailywire.com/news/8270/6-peoplecountries-bought-favors-hillary-clinton-ben-shapiro plausible as it's sourced
  22. Except when the USA slashed its corporate taxes, red tape and decides to stick us with tariffs. Have fun competing with that.
  23. She doesn't want the carbon tax. That's it that's all. She is saying that a lot of people can't afford the tax which is a clear example of taxes lowering living standards.
  24. She will have to sell and have have her wealth burned up. She will still struggle to pay rent and the exorbitant hydro rates. People are poorer as a result of taxes not richer. The only role of the government is to provide rules to allow the market to function and for some basic necessities such as roads, not the bloated unsustainable mess it is now. The free market provides a tax base for government to get funds. Hence the crappy living standards where government was in excess - Venezuela, Soviet Union, North Korea, most of China, India, The Saudis folded like a cheap tent. If Saudis can pump at 3 cents why did they give up their market share by turning off the taps? Ontario believes fossil fuels must be phased out and are paying for it by being over taxed, highest subsovereign debt, and businesses not investing there. Guess where the new auto plants are going?
  25. She will have to change her lifestyle based on government meddling which is ridiculous. Not imposing a tax is not a bailout. She didn't have the Ontario hydro jack her rates all at once to serve wynne's agenda. at least when Harper was pm she could get by, now she is buried in tax.
