  1. The governments ability to collect taxes is literally a gun to ones head. If one pushes the issue to the extreme it's a gun to the head. There's a leftist slippery slope arguement. Humanitarian aid doesn't fall into necessary government function such as settling disputes and providing an environment for business to work in - that's what taxes are for and that shouldn't cost as much as it does today. There's a gun to the head as taxes are used for foreign aid. The funny thing is in the gilded age when taxes were at rock bottom is when the large blue chip charities came out which are far more efficient at helping people than government taxation.
  2. The big countries aren't doing the carbon tax nonsense anymore. Australia canned theirs. Europe for the most part is an economic basketcase Energy demand won't be decreasing as the rest of the world improves their living standards. It will be an all of the above to meet the coming demand or should those in developing and third world counties eat cake? Solar is still expensive and oil is a lot cheaper. The poor countries want to be like us. All energy solar and oil are needed. The oil game won't be up for quite some time and the free market does a great job of deciding which energy is worthwhile, hence no more whale oil and horse and buggys The way Trudeau is going that's a certainty.
  3. As evidenced by the erosion of democrats in the house, senate, and state legislatures
  4. Olearys policy is slashing regulations, slashing taxes and letting the market work to make us competitive with the USA. O'Leary won't touch marihuana, immigration, and abortion. Sounds like policy to me. Do you honestly think that mad max has the moxy to beat Trudeau. Trudeau will be getting a lot of free passes and can work the camera which Tories except for O'Leary have a problem with.
  5. And has went into the poorhouse as a result of it. Pallister has a big mountain to climb! The ndp found out the hard way how much hydro costs.
  6. Why should one have a gun to their head to be forced to provide humanitarian aid?
  7. Adapt our way into the poorhouse. Not everyone lives in a rainforest climate in a Downtown centre...
  8. You can't really compare smoking and CO2 emissions in this scenario as smoking cigarettes is a vice and not necessary for an economy to function whereas if we don't want to live like the pioneers then we need to use fossil fuels. There's taxing a vice which makes sense as smoking cigarettes has a bad cost benefit to society vs using fossil fuels.
  9. That support will erode as Tories will go with the trend is my friend. Bernier has no momentum and O'Leary has it. The twitter followers are voters in the federal election and the long game is needed. Trudeaus scandals are minor in the eyes of the media and he is still the media darling. It's an election of celebrity vs celebrity and bernier doesn't have the chops. The boring Harper has been tried against other candidates and won't do this time. donations won't matter when the tide rolls in and the donors back O'Leary.
  10. The liberals didn't win much for extra seats in the prairies except for Winnipeg and edmnonton. Those are toss ups even in the best of times. Winnipeg doesn't need the oil and gas sector. Voters in southern Ontario confuse me, they voted provincial liberals in the regular and vote a lot for federal liberals no matter what. Ndp will get a leader, unfortunately will be boring as he/she won't have the jack Layton touch for some time. Andrew scheer and bernier are competent but don't have the media chops. Scheer and bernier will cannabilize each other. The Tory leaders typically don't connect with Quebec voters and bernier will be no different. Bernier isn't doing very much campaigning. Going with an uncharismatic leader will be what Trudeau wants and bernier is just another policy wonk. The ndp will be a non factor in this election as Trudeau is the best chance to stop the Tories. The left learned that lesson in 2011. How many twitter followers does bernier have vs O'Leary? It's silly but O'Leary has spent the better part of a decade getting his name out there and Bernier is watching things pass by.
  11. People buy other things than houses.
  12. If the liberals in Ontario can pull off election wins with their economy previously in a dumpster fire, Trudeau has a good shot at winning. We will have to see how olearys french lessons go. The French debate is to hold ground. O'Leary has a better chance of getting a kill shot in a debate, bernier tends to stumble. trudeau will be able to handle bernier in a debate. The ndp typically has no chance of forming power and my analogy if Romney vs Obama stands. The eastern economy is also rebounding at the moment. berniers problem is the camera doesn't like him as much as O'Leary.
  13. That doesn't matter if there's hard evidence as Trudeau isn't in court. Often times perception is reality and as clearly shown in this day and age that's the case. Trudeau better hope that he's insignificant enough for trump not to pay attention to him as it's perceived that Trudeau is openly supporting those who appear to be delegitimizing trumps presidency and that wouldn't fly in negotiations with that very person.
  14. Once again Trudeau is caught taking sides in American politics. It's unwise for him to blatantly and without prompting support protesters questioning trumps legitimacy and trumps dealings with women; especially when he wants to enter into negotiations with trump to try and preserve Canada's interests. Trudeau should have kept his trap shut even though there is absolutely nothing wrong with the protesters making a very valid point.
  15. http://www.ctvnews.ca/mobile/world/trump-says-he-will-meet-with-pm-trudeau-begin-renegotiating-nafta-1.3252128 and then Trudeau decides to start tweeting... 1st Rick Santorum chided Trudeau about how Trudeau will now be negotiating from weakness and now trudeau sends that tweet the same day that trump is talking about renegotiating nafta. The tory leadership candidates will have fun with that one...
  16. Trump now has Republican Party brass to deal with as well. Trump may have a lot of power and political capital now, but if the mid terms don't go good for the republicans, trump will be in a lot of hot water and no amount of tweeting will stop congress from imposing their will.
  17. Trudeau is much better at gaining support than one gives him credit for. I remember hearing about Trudeau speaking at universities for over a decade to get his name and message out there. Trudeau is still likeable and has massive name recognition. What O'Leary brings to the table is far more than populism, it's a brand and a message of fiscal discipline to boost the economy. Not only that O'Leary is a far better communicator than bernier. O'Leary has himself all over the press twice a week. Where is bernier? The Tories picking bernier would be like the republicans picking mitt Romney to try and beat Obama and that was a train wreck.
  18. O'Leary has a big theme with the economy and is wise to sluff things that are red meat for hard core Tory junkies such as immigration, abortions, and the military. It's quite smart as he knows the issue of the economy is one of the few things that unite Canadians and is framing that issue. if conservatives are that stupid to be making an issue out of things that don't matter compared to the economy which is affecting everyone then they deserve to lose. Dion tried the carbon tax and lost, Ignatieff didn't offer anything and lost, however Trudeau pitched infrastructure spending to boost the economy and won. The Tories tried to do identity politics against trudeau and got creamed. Trump essentially won because of his pitch for the economy, something that is going straight over kellie leitch's head.
  19. Bernier is a policy wonk who has as much charisma as a chair. You need media savvy to take down Trudeau. The media and liberal machine will eat mad max for dinner. O'Leary knows how to play them like a fiddle and can brush off criticism. bernier is good for a high level cabinet post but doesn't have the chops to manipulate the media and hammer Trudeau, he's too soft. why any sane Tory would vote for bernier thinking he could knock off trudeau is living in fantasyland.
  20. Weak minded people tend to vote democrat as well and the DNC has some whoppers of their own. Point is that when one is in the great game, all sides will use every trick in the book to win. Mitt Romney learned that lesson the hard way...
  21. It's an example of how when people come to Canada everyone benefitted. I also think that they should be properly vetted.
  22. And then you have to eventually buy things...
  23. The USA, India, china, and Russia won't be jumping off a bridge with us. The biggest incentive to renewable energy is the futures price of oil. When it goes past $100, vehicles become more efficient, fuel is less consumed, and more r and d is out into new energy a la fracking. Why do we need a tax to do what the market does? Like what American exports? America is americas biggest consumer and they are looking at going it alone. They can try and put tariffs on agricultural products and screw themselves in the process. Trying to stick it to the Americans does nothing but make the other countries poorer. Something should be coming
  24. We let the Vietnamese boat people in Canada during the 1970s and it was a resounding success. Jt is popular as he is media savvy, friendly, and has ideas that appeal to a lot of people.
  25. You might have to get over the fact that O'Leary is pro immigration. There is nothing wrong with properly vetted people coming to Canada. oleary is going to have a hard time cracking eastern Canada and is dependent on the economy tanking to beat a popular prime minister.
