Jack Layton pushes a woman in order to get on camera!
blueblood replied to Mr.Canada's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
What about the other patrons, chances are they wanted to be by the bar too. Why should he get prime spot just because he's Jack Layton? see below and above Layton being a celebrity and a politician can get on TV and have camera people follow him around whenever he wants. The other people are ordinary Canadians, they get the free pass to position themselves. Yes its a double standard, but Jack Layton isn't an ordinary Canadian. I bet there are other people in the bar who would have loved to be at that location when the cameras were rolling, but ol' Jackie put the screws to them. Layton could have had a photo op done at the bar, showing that he was around with ordinary canadians and had that sent to all the political shows/news/ndp ads in the country. The fact is there was no camera crew to pan the crowd to look for jack layton, he was looking for the camera and by diggies he found it. What Jack Layton did would be the equivalent of Harper punting somebody out of their seat behind the team Canada bench and would smile and wave like a buffoon whenever he thought the camera was panning to the bench. Instead Harper sat at his spot, and the camera came to him specifically. It's not about whether or not a politician can be around a lot of people and get on TV, the problem is the method of going about and doing it. -

If you think people want to see politicians of any stripe weaseling their way in to get camera time, you need to get out more. That camera placement was to get reactions from ordinary people not politicians. Layton can get his face on TV whenever he wants, Joe Canadian cannot. -

That and a trained camera man was panning to find Harper, or any Liberal PM when big events go down. These people aren't taking anyone's opportunity to be on TV and they aren't chasing the camera which is really cheesy. -
Prove that it's a scam.

Why do my colleague and I pay as much in taxes?
blueblood replied to Machjo's topic in Business and Economy
Lack of incentive. If I'm going to get paid anyway, why should I have to work harder if I'm getting a guaranteed cheque. Also, why should I contribute more if the next guy contributes next to nothing and yet gets the same pay I do? Never underestimate the WIFM factor... -

How many times do I have to explain this. Jack Layton could have stood at any location within that bar that is probably a few thousand square feet. There were hundreds of people there that didn't get on camera, why did Jack? and why did he "position" himself so conveniently? -
And who pray tell are shareholders? That would be pretty much every Canadian with a job and a retirement plan. Oh the horror. Suggesting free trade is bad for Canada warrants a suggestion to buy books on economics or take some classes. Some Parliamentarians also want out of NAFTA, guess where their polling numbers are...

As much as I hate to defend Layton, one must shut this clown up. Have you ever heard of consent? Chances are Layton said sorry to the girl and she could care less. It's not assault unless she thinks it is and a crown attorney will take her case. Damn eh? As for Layton pulling the gutterball move by weaseling his way onto the equivalent of the super bowl, that's the issue here. -

labelling conservative with authoritarian is flat out ignorant and using scare tactics. That's like labelling Liberal with anarchist. The utter failure that is the USSR should be a stark reminder to us all why we should limit government intervention in economic circumstances. I'll say that Lenin was a progressive, lets not forget Gorbachev, and look what happened at the mess that happened there. There's more to the USSR than just Stalin... -

Republicans Eat Obama Alive
blueblood replied to Shady's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
That poll would be like asking do Americans want a free car in their garage. The problem is there is a myth spreading down there that Universal Health Care = Free Health Care. I think that a similar proportion of Americans polled would vote negative concerning a tax hike to pay for this health care (among other things). -
I didn't know ceiling fans could access the internet...

Well done sir. Thank you for articulating better than I could.

I wasn't referring to you as the "fruit of Trudeau's social experiment". I was referring to the flag waving, anti-american, "right of centre are evil", and "Canada would be a dictatorship without the charter" type of people. Apparently a lot of Canadians have these views and they elect people to represent them.

CBC Comments Section is Nothing but a Harper Bash Fest
blueblood replied to Smallc's topic in Media and Broadcasting
CBC has Kevin O'Leary doing double duty on the den, and on the Lang and O'Leary exchange. If you want to widen the range of opinions on CBC, this is how you do it. Which unfortunately is the ultimate in irony considering Kevin O'Leary's stance on government spending yet appearing on CBC. -
I think there is a general consensus that Haiti is poor because of X policy and Chile is not poor because of a pro business policy. The problem is an 8.8 earthquake is many times magnitude more potent than a 7. Had both countries had a similar size quake with similar epicentres, I would be in full agreement with you. It's like shooting a pork carcass with a 9mm at point blank range, and then shooting that same carcass covered in kevlar with a 30-06 at half a mile, and then saying what does more damage? Too many variables.

There you have it! Liberals are smarter
blueblood replied to charter.rights's topic in Religion & Politics
Is this the same as one of those, "just because I have a university education, that means I am smarter than you" type deals? apparently more university educated people vote Liberal, therefore Conservative voters are automatically stupid because apparently a university education is a prerequisite for intelligence. I don't think CEO's of corporations who probably vote for a conservative party (rep./con) are stupid. -
I think that if the epicentre of the chilean quake was in the same killzone as was the haiti quake, those well made buildings would have done diddly squat. The sheer magnitude of an 8.8 is unfathomable. Haiti was bad partly due to the location of the epicentre, the shotty buildings didn't have a prayer.
-
Wasn't the epicenter of the chile quake out to see, whereas the Haiti quake in a prime killing zone? put that 8.8 epicenter in the same kill zone as the haiti quake and there would be a catastrophe in chile.

If you watched the CTV, Harper was getting pretty solid press. It just seems pretty wastefull bringing a photographer. -
28 people understood the poll and voted how they wanted to. Cry me a river about the results.

Kenney Pulls Gay Rights from Citizenship Guide
blueblood replied to nicky10013's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'm opposed to roasting the tories over taking out something that's redundant. All that pamphlet has to say is "if your human, and not a criminal, welcome and enjoy equal rights that Canadians enjoy" Oh the horror of not listing groups!
