Arar BANNED from US - David Wilkins
Topaz replied to mikedavid00's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
There's one thing everyone is not saying, Arar, should have been sent back to Canada instead of being sent to Syria as he did ask for BUT the USA decided they wanted him tortured! Now, did the Canadian govt help Arar come back to this country or did they say "too bad"!!! Arar does have a mult-million lawsuit on the US and of course if they admitted they were wrong it doing to cost them plenty! -
I wonder how much info our govt has over this war and the govt, Canadians that are dying over to fight against the Taliban. I watched a newsreel on the net from an English journalist, who was a woman, to see what was happening in Afghanistan. What she found out the money that this govt got for reconstruction didn't go for the people but to palaces and that the people of this country say the "Northern Alliance" which the Taliban fought, now is in all levels of govt over there and they are "warlords" and we, in the west, are helping them to fight against the Taliban, which treated the people alot better than the Northern Alliance! People within the govt there are making tons of money over the drug trade, which most goes to Europe! After watching this 25 minutes film I say we have our own "Iraq" and are being used by 2 different groups in Afghanistan. I don't think our people should be there and dying for this government in Afghanistan which is crooked. I also don't think other govts are telling all to their people who are also dying there. It seems just Maybe the NDP has it more right than the other two parties do, although the Libs didn't plan to stay past '07. I encourage every Canadian to use the net to find the truth about this country Canadians are dying for and you too may find what I have.

Liberals and Tories vote $22000 Raises for themselve
Topaz replied to madmax's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Both, the Tories and the Libs, have abused the citizens of this province. When Harris was in, instead of raises, they took them in RRSP's and now the Libs have done their thing. I wouldn't mind if the unemployment was down and everyone in this province is doing well, that's not the case. Are they going to give the govt employees a 28% increase in their pay??? -
Dion's Mother & Dion's Dual Citizenship
Topaz replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I have a French-English dictionary and the word " chatouilleux" the closes I found was "chatouiller" which means vt to tickle;(l'odorat,le palais) to titilate; chatouilleux, euse a ticklish (fig) touchy, over sensitive. The word "dessus" used with the other means "On top" and "dessous" means "underneath". I couldn't remember which word was used so I put both. -
Interesting, but not going to happen. First #1 and #5 don't mix! Just as soon as the borders came down the US would be in here for the nature resources alone! No, Canada should stay Canada and I think its time for any government sitting, seek more public opinion on topics.

Maher Arar has pared down his $400-million lawsuit against
Topaz replied to mikedavid00's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
IF Arar was sent to Syria and tortured then he is able to sued the government for making up info that went to the US, which the US says is the reasons, he was sent to Syria in the first place. My one question to the US is, why when you don't believe in torture, send a Canadian, who asked to be sent back to Canada , you sent him to a country you are am enemy of????? Arar will try to sued the US but he won't get anywhere because of the "new" laws the US put in concerning the "war on terror" and the fact they say it was the info Canada gave them. So.... the question is, who gave the US the info, the RCMP or CSIS????? -
Liberals well positioned for next election
Topaz replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I rather think its not the polls who have the Liberals ahead its c-pac and televising "question period" and how the Cons react to questions. As Iggy said yesterday, every time, a question comes their way and they don't want to answer it, they reverse the question and turn it against the Liberals. People are sick of hearing what the Liberals did with the scam, we all know, and we know that the guilty parties are paying the price. I don't want to hear about the past I want to know what they are doing about the present and maybe the future for Canadians!! Also, I saw Holland ask Stockwell if he ever talked to the commissioner about quitting and Stockwell refused to answer the question, because he was under oath. I think the govt is hiding alot about this case and it just adds to the suspicion of other things. -
Why are the Conservatives Killing the Wheat Board?
Topaz replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Question....why can't farmers have a CHOICE to either belong or not too?? Both sides would be happy and then there would be peace on the prairies! -
I think most Canadians are sick hearing about two things, SS marriages and separation within Canada. I feel the Charter of Rights answers any question to both issues and so lets move on to more important issues!

Will Stéphane Dion ever be PM of Canada?
Topaz replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well, I guess he could be, did anyone think Harper would be PM? Many hoped not but he is half-as one. Perhaps one could say that even Layton still has a chance to be. The voters sometimes are strange people when it comes to voting. I think most go by party lines and others by the person. I find Harper's group more of actors acting before the camera and not doing more for Canada. As I have said before, Baird is the groups comedian, or he tries to be and that's not what we are paying them for, we are not getting our money worth in this government! -
Five bucks to vote for President of Alberta
Topaz replied to BubberMiley's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
You may see changes to the province of Alberta, with more people moving there to get jobs. I know alot of Ontarians that have moved out there and they would probably vote Liberal or NDP. -
Well, at least its not Iggy but, I'm not sure how Dion will carry the Liberal voters in the rest of Canada. I think maybe parties should at least, ponder, on what polls say before they vote themselves. After all, they can vote for who THEY think can win against the Cons, but its really up to the rest of the voters in the country to decide! I will be watching "question periods" and see how he can handle Harper. I think if some Liberals are disappointed in the leadership, they will move to the NDP or the Green party.
-
Well we all, know who started this debate and if this guy gets in as leader of the Liberals, I bet they will lose alot of liberal votes come election time. This guy, I feel, is nothing but a trouble maker and anyone who votes for him ,believes in the Iraq war and GW Bush!!

What Harper is doing could made relations within Canada bitter. If he says Quebec is a "nation" within Canada then the The bloc will come back and say, thank you for recognizing Quebec as a nation BUT we don't want to be WITHIN Canada and so they start to become a country of their own. I don't think Harper is tough enough on this topic. He should say, Quebec is a province within Canada just like the rest of the privinces and that is how it will stay. No gray area, either you are in or you are out and if you are out then get out of parliament! There are of groups of peoples like the First Nation and the people of the Atlantic provinces, who would probably say they have a nation within Canada too.
-
I'm just wondering how the Cons are going to do this when there's alot of unknowns that can happen with any budget. They don't know exactly how much is war is going to cost and how long it will go on, what about down turns in the economy. IF they can do it, more power to them, but look at what Flaherty did to Ontario, left it with a 6 billion debt and he wants all the provinces to break even so his idea will work!! They kkep saying what they have done for Canadians so far in their last budget. For me, the GST is the only benefit I see and I'm middle-class income.
-
I still believe that Ignatieff back to Canada only to stir up trouble within Canada! The Bloc only speak for a small minority within Quebec and listening to them today, they seem to think ALL Quebecers feel the same way as them. The first mistake the government did was to give them searting rights within the government. They shouldn't have it because their only concern is for Quebec and by doing so, Quebec has more people representing the province, than the rest of the country!! Perhaps the parties should debate over IF the Bloc has a right to be seating in government, a government of Canada, which they don't really care about! The First Nation is a nation and yet they have no "First Nation" person to represent them as the The Bloc has seemed to have.
-
I could agree with everyone of you in what you've said. Today, Harper is PM and he's alot better off than the than the past PM's. Let see what he does for the time he's is in the PM's chair. I feel that he may get over his head in the debt, with buying up military equipment and fighting a war and trying to cut taxes and reducing the debt or trying to keep it from going into the red. I hear they are taking in an extra 5 Billion in taxes a year, so there is no excuse to run up the debt further.

As a "baby boomer" I can say we did take Canadian history in grades 9 & 10, we listen to records of WW1 and WW2 and had daily test on it. In public school, we took about the war of 1812, seven's years war, the confederation, we also took the history of the US, this was grade 7 & 8. Today, every school is different and it should be better for kids to have more info. with the computer to help them. I think education is more exciting than it was 30 years ago!

Someone told me that the Minister of Finance was a multi-millionaire, I don't know if that's true or not but if it is, were is he parking his money and keeping it safe from taxes?? Would a minister of finance hurt himself with his tax laws??
-
I think the provinces are going to take this in their own hands and do something about it! The Con govt is out of touch with reality plus they probably don't want to spend the money on it , there's is a war going on and I'm sure that will eat up any extra of the 5 Billion they have! Like the saying says, "Don't expect anything and you won't be disappointed" I don't expect anything from this govt or the PM! When is the next election???
-
The differences is the Alliance/Cons talked, over and over again about the wrong doings of some of the Liberal party and make such a big deal about and said THEY would be honest and bring RESPECT back to the Canadian Parliament!! That's why Harper got a minority govt, Canadians were trying him out to see what kind of a PM he would be. NOW, we know, and there's lots going on behind the scenes, that isn't what he said his govt would be. Baird, every chance he gets keeps running down the Liberal party on being dishonest and now that is a joke, just like Baird , himself, is a joke or the parliamentary jester!!

Stephen Harper: Closet U.S. Democrat
Topaz replied to normanchateau's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I went and "googled" the Taliban and they weren't as bad as the US makes then out to be. They had the drug trade almost wiped out, and the problem the people had, was the treatment of women but that is part of the Middle-East culture or religion and other countries there are guilty of that too! I'm NOT saying it ok, but is the West going to invade every country that treat their people badly?? -
Bob Rae out ahead in poll of Canadians
Topaz replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
As far as the "RAE DAYS" I know alot of the civil servants who had to work under those conditions, and at the time , yeah, they didn't like them but, when Harris came in and we all saw what happen when the union went on strike and how harris handled that, with the police using force and people getting hurt. The union then wished Rae was back and Harris gone. As one person told me, "it was better to have a job, even a partimer, then to deal with the Harris government! -
I'm totally against any provinces leaving Canada, although maybe the US would like to see that. They are running out of natural resources and soon WATER will take the place of oil and who has the most fresh water? Canada. Anyway, let's just say a province did, what would they lose? CPP, C$, ???????
-
I guess that 's what you get when two parties, Alliance and PC's want to the seating party to govern. Oil and water don't mix and I don't think this party will be together 10 years from now. The PC's made a bad decision to join this party, the Alliance is more like the The Bloc!! I believed that Harper wasn't experience enough political to be PM and all the mistakes he's made will cost him next election!
