  1. Why doesn't the Feds just buy the agricultural produce from farmers to keep them producing?   If hospitals can be built in a matter of days, surely humonguous storehouses can easily come up as well in strategic places! At least, that ensures that we don't have any shortages.  They can be temporary suppliers to grocery stores, and can supply Food Banks and other charities.  Any surplus can be exported to help other struggling nations.

    The preparations made in the Biblical famine of the  Joseph narrative comes to mind.

      That is a good idea.  But for the immediate problem that we face now - food shortage is very likely looming if farmers stop producing as they used to (because of restaurants being closed), maybe the Feds should step in and offer assurances to them by buying up the products that normally go to restaurants. 

      I don't know if this is a reason why we've got eggs shortage.  There is a limit to eggs we can buy here where I live which is only 20-30 minutes from Ottawa.  Costco is said to have empty shelves for some meat products too, I'm not sure if they're talking about here or the US.
