Assad will be history next week. I am just trying to get my head around as to why the US wants to install a government of islamic bigots to replace Assad's regime. Perhaps just for the sake of creating further instability ion the region.

Who thinks Canada needs to be much more right wing?
-TSS- replied to rightwingcanadian's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This ageing population-problem which supposedly needs to be solved by increasing immigration is al due to the baby-boomer generation of the 1940's. Their retirement was supposed to leave a huge gap in the labour-market and only immigration could fill in that gap. Do you know anyone born in the 1940's who's still working? I don't. Yet there is persistent unemployment and no sign of that labour-shortage anywhere. -

Solving the problem of ageing population by increasing immigration is like curing hangover by having another drink. The immigrants themselves don't get any older, do they? -

why is the u.s. suddenly crying about the use of chemical weapons?
-TSS- replied to bud's topic in The Rest of the World
Now Obama is going to ask approval by Congress to attack Syria. Congress convenes on 9/9. Is Obama going to be that predictable as to launch the attack two days later for obvious symbolic reasons? -

I'm not a friend of conspiracy theories or any tinfoil hat-stuff but the very blind devotion any US government has for that tiny state called Israel does raise some questions. -

The bigger picture behind all this is beginning to emerge. As Syria has been a fairly stabilised country but very anti-Israel it is important to destroy its infrastructure in a war. Even though that means that the ones who become the new leaders of Syria after the previous government has been overthrown are the worst kind of Israeli-haters but as their country is in ruins they pose no challenge or threat to Israel. -

Nobody cares about the people of Syria. Obama and Cameron can say whatever they like, they are lying. No military action has ever been started out of philanthropic reasons, never. -
The hypocrisy is really breathtaking. Both the US and the UK just can't wait to get to bomb Syria in order to protect the population. I'm sure the UK will find a way around somehow to join the US even though their parliament defeated the motion to use military action. Very commendably unselfish policies by the US and the UK. I'm sure that Syria's strategic importance in the Middle-East has nothing to do with the philanthropic desire to jsut to protect the people of Syria from the bad bad dictator.

Why are the rebels romantisized in the western media? First in Libya, now in Syria. Is it somehow "cool" to be a rebel? Unfortunately the alternative these rebels offer is far worse than the regime they aim to overthrow.

Didn't they recently have a referendum on independence and probably even the penguins voted for status quo? -
Israel's 10 year racist law anniversary
-TSS- replied to Hudson Jones's topic in The Rest of the World
Israel faces a dilemma. Either it must grant independence for Palestine, which it is reluctant to do, perhaps for understandable reasons, or, the worse alternative being that the Jewish people become outnumbered by non-Jews in Israel as long as Israel holds onto what would be an independent Palestine. -
Isn't that a bit of an outdated myth? Similar as to saying that all Hispanics are devout Catholics?

The very basic essence of a country like Canada is that any anti-immigration sentiments might make you a little laughable to say the least. I don't think there is any successful politician in Canada calling for closing the doors. It is a diferent matter here in Europe which consists mainly of nation-states.

Trayvon Martin - The other side of Hypocricy

They're not going to reverse the verdict so in all intents and purposes this case is closed. I think we should move on! -
In theory the Queen owns all of Britain and her dominions including Canada. Of course, as an owner she should have the right to sell off her property such as the Buckingham Palace. Could she do that? Of course she couldn't. And, no she couldn't sell Canada to the Americans either.

The BBC conveniently forgets to tell something about the case: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2380021/Albert-Buitenhuis-New-Zealand-kicks-obese-man-country-290lbs-heavy.html He also has a knee injury which could cost up to $20,000 to replace. The Press reported that the couple’s doctor said he could bring his cholesterol and blood levels into the acceptable level within 26 weeks. [...]

When one comes to think of it, being a royal from the very birth is a very challneging task. Firstly, as we probably all remember when we were kids ourselves we thought of ourselves as the centre of the universe and it was only later on when we were told that all those other people don't exist for our entertainment only. For royal children this does not really hold true as they really seem to be the centre of the universe and all other people are there only their servants.

Trayvon Martin - The other side of Hypocricy
-TSS- replied to Keepitsimple's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
The more one reads into this story the more one realizes the hysteria attached and how defenders of both views are fiercely defending their own agenda. Martin was not a sweet child who was just minding his business but got shot by a racist bigot. Zimmermann was not such a knight in a shining armour who was just doing his duty defending his neighbourhood. -

I must say that I find it a bit funny or confusing as the Americans are so fond of keeping very accurate statistics about people's race whether they are white, black or hispanic. Despite all that very cdommendable accuracy all of a sudden in this particular case Mr. Z's race has become very unrecognizable. The media would just love him to be categorized as "white" or "Caucasian" as you prefer that insanely stupid tag but he is not white or caucasian. Yet the media can't portray him as hispanic either because that would trigger further unrest. -

I must say that except in 2008 when Obama got elected when everyone was making ado about a black man becoming the President of the United States, very soon after that I really never viewed Obama as a black man. I have always preferred the Democrats over the Republicans when it comes to the American politics, be it Carter vs Reagan, be it Dukakis vs Bush, be it Clinton vs Bush, be it Gore vs Bush jr and be it Obama vs McCain or Romney. However, this recent episode has showed that Obama has picked his side instead of staying neutral.
