  1. Yet again another time I'm happy that Finland was not chosen into the UN security council even though our lunatic politicians worked hard trying to get us there.
  2. If Ukraine is partioned as a result of Russian bullying-tactics it would set a dangerous precedent as there are national minorities in almost every country especially in those which have been born of collapsed empires. If Ukraine is partioned because there is a large Russian population what next? The Baltic states?
  3. The Quebec government are cutting the branch they are sitting on themselves with these zealous measures.
  4. The ultimate nightmare-scenario: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2570335/Former-British-Ambassador-Moscow-warns-Russia-invaded-Ukraine-difficult-avoid-going-war.html
  5. On may 25th a referendum in the Crimean peninsula whether to secede from Ukraine and if so whether to join Russia or declare an independent country.
  6. Ukraine is not the only former Soviet-republic where there is a large Russian-speaking minority. Ukraine just is in the most strategic position from an international view not least because of the Russian gas.
  7. Canada won hockey. Russia topped the medal-table. Guess which country is more satisfied.
  8. The African borders are definitely in the wrong places for most of those countries but tampering with the borders now would only create more problems than it would solve.
  9. Congats to Canada! Now this bulltish about Canada not being able to win in a big rink can be consigned to the dustbin. However, it must be said that as much as I loved the Finns defeating the Russians the lack of an enthusiastic crowd at the last games totally killed off the atmosphere.
  10. Russia topped the medal-table at their home-games but I guess they are still disappointed because they failed to win hockey.
  11. Canada is the home-country of hockey and worthy champions. Funnily though, it seems that it was Latvia who gave the Canadians the toughest match in the knock-out stage.
  12. I think it would be a feasible solution. After all, Ukraine with its current borders is an artificial country.
  13. I certainly will! I can't just watch the Swedes celebrating victory.
  14. I can't believe this thread I started two years ago has still some recent posts. However, I still haven't received a satisfactory answer what 0 degrees fahrenheit means. It must mean something as it obviously is the basis of the whole scale.
  15. Sweden play terrible anti-hockey. It's very efficient and it brings success but it is extremely boring to watch. They make their opponents look bad and hence results such as 1-0, 2-1 etc like in soccer.
  16. In soccer winning the world cup is every player's biggest dream. No club competition-victory can compare with winning the world cup.
  17. This was Selänne's fairwell-game with the Finnish team. What a career he's had. There will probably never be anyone quite like him again.
  18. That was sweet to watch. I have to say that 20 years ago this would have been a big deal to win bronze but nowadays it is a nice consolation-prize.
  19. I wish the old Canada-cup or world cup was revived but I guess that ad long as the NHL-players play in the olympics that is considered as enough top hockey. Besides, it's difficult to find a good time for such a tournament. It had to be either early autumn pre-season when everyone is still a bit rusty ot like now in mid-season. Now that the olympic-final is on Sunday I guess on Tuesday or Wednesday there will be a full round of NHL-matches.
  20. All of them.
  21. No, Selänne is 43 now. Even he will be too old in Korea.
  22. Two previous champions taking on each other. Perhaps this is what the media loves.
  23. Sweden winning this tournament would bring the very sport into disrepute.
  24. I'll be cheering for Canada too. Not because I would be a typical Finn who is bitter, envious and angry at the Swedes performing well, on the contrary, but the Swedes have really not been convincing in this tournament thus far at all. It's the fault of the competition-format as well. If they beat Canada they are worthy champions.
  25. Indeed, Finland is just not good enough to win 2-3 tough games in a row, which is needed in a tournament.
