Nationalism is the doom of all politics...
-TSS- replied to Scott Mayers's topic in Political Philosophy
I'm not British, I'm Finnish but I'm extremely interested about the prospect of Brexit because that could set off an avalanche as Britain, unlike Finland, is a major important country.- 32 replies

Nationalism is the doom of all politics...
-TSS- replied to Scott Mayers's topic in Political Philosophy
I don't agree with your anti-national sentiment but I can understand where you are coming from and that is totally acceptable. The thing which I really don't understand is that people who bang on about how nationalism is a bad thing support a corrupt structure such as the EU which is little more than extension of German and French national interests and the EU itself has ambitions of its own to become an empire. I'm not sure how much you people in Canada know about the EU and if you don't know about it might be fooled to think it is some peace-loving gathering of nations against nationalism which has wreaked havoc across the European continent. The EU is the project to bring our continent under totalitarian rule once again and history is repeating itself. The EU is kleptocractic and corrupt to the core. I can't for the world understand how anyone who hasn't vested interests in that system should support it.- 32 replies

It does feel like politicians are puppets and unfortunately the puppet-masters are never up for election.

Nationalism is the doom of all politics...
-TSS- replied to Scott Mayers's topic in Political Philosophy
As Britain is due to have a referendum on whether to stay in the EU or leave the union Barack Obama visited Britain a couple of weeks ago and lectured to them that they should stay. Not only was that interfering in another country's internal affairs but also hypocritical. Namely, let's imagine that there was an American union consisting of all the countries of North-,Central- and South-America and that union would have the power to override the internal legislation of each country. Could you imagine the USA would ever accept that? In other words Obama demands others to do something he would never do himself. On the exit-referendum of Britain it must be said that it is somewhat ironical that the main party advocating for the exit is called the United Kingdom Independence Party as the United Kingdom itself is an artificial country but has become a functional one in three centuries of its existence.- 32 replies

Nationalism is the doom of all politics...

I know this is not relevant on your continent but I must still say that even though I agree to some extent with your analysis of how nationalism when taken too far is detrimental do you think that what we here in Europe are being spoon-fed is any better? I mean the EU which is a kleptocracy of the highest order and a horrendous bureaucratic system the purpose of existence is only for itself and its dreams of federalism are nothing short of the lebensraum-ideology that many people accuse nationalism of.- 32 replies

I must say that I have never in my adult life have been as sceptical about democracy as I'm these days. I used to poke fun at those people who never vote and who say that voting is just a waste of time and politicians are all of the same ilk. I used to spurn those people by thinking whay ignorant oafs they are. I think the turning point for me came last year when the True Finns had another electoral success on the bandwagon of anti-EU and anti-immigration campaign and were allowed into the government. In the government those bastards probably broke all the records of turning coats. All of a sudden the EU is a necessity and immigration is just something we have to live with. I know that in coalition-politics you give and you take and policies are bound to be lame compromises but despite that self-evident truth they went too far and have betrayed their voters.

Britain Sets Date for EU Referendum -- Brexit
-TSS- replied to scribblet's topic in The Rest of the World
London mayor Boris Johnson supports leaving the EU, which is a massive boost for the leave-campaign. The mayor of a major global multicultural city supports leaving. The leave-side can no longer be described as sad little Englanders who just cant keep up with times. -
I think WW II has been romantised to a great degree. After all, unlike WW I which really was a stupid turf-fight between vain European monarchs and carried out by moronic generals, WW II was about defeating an evil ideology and hence the romantism about. Not a lot of Hollywood-movies about WW I, are there?

In the 80's it was a real fear that a nuclear war would break out. When Reagan was elected President people said that it would be inevitable that there would be a war. Only when Gorbachev became the Soviet leader things turned for a better and the fear of a world war subsided. We weren't afraid anymore. It has only been recently that there has been a real new fear of worldwide confrontation. The first sign was the Ukraine-crisis. The later episodes of the world, or at least Europe, slowly sliding into a chaos and a possible conflict is the latest migrant-crisis where the European governments are seemingly paralysed and unable to make decisions but that is just the surface because they only seem paralysed because the whole crisis is orchestrated and intended to cause turmoil.

Proportional Representation Discussion
-TSS- replied to Michael Hardner's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I must admit that I have never before been as cynical about democracy and voting as I am these days. It actually worries me that I have turned into this mindset. Namely, earlier I used to spurn people who said about voting that it is a waste of time because all the politicians are just the same and they all lie and only think their personal gain. I used to say that if you don't do your tiny little bit about turning up for voting then you have no right to complain. I've ceased to think that way. Givebn what has been going on in Europe for the past few months and how it is flagrantly deliberately orchestrated despite the will of the people in almost every country I'm beginning to think that those people whom I previously ridiculed for not voting were the smart ones and we who bought the scam given to us by the establishment have been the fools all along. Sorry to say this but there is no other way out than some violent upheaval or even a civil-war of Europe if you can call a war happening in various countries a civil-war. History is repeating itself again. Another destructive war is in the making and originating from, guess where, dadaa Germany once again. -

Where have you travelled (going to travel) open thread
-TSS- replied to msj's topic in Travel, Leisure and Sports
Reading this thread makes me almost blush in embarassment. Where have I been? To Stockholm and St. Petersburg. That's about it. I haven't even been to Tallinn which is about a 2h ferry-ride away from where I live very near. I travel a lot within Finland but I just don't have any interest to travel abroad. I also have some sort of fear of flying. The idea of being trapped in a can of aluminium which takes off scares the shit out of me. Needless to say that I've never flown and needful to say that I never will. -
Obama is going out after two terms in office as did his two predecessors. However, unless the law has changed there is a 10 year-rule for a single person able to serve as President. That is possible if the Vice-President becomes President during the second half of the previous President who has either died or resigned from office. LBJ became President in 1963 when Kennedy was assasinated. He was elected in his own right in 1964 and he was still eligible for re-election in 1968 but he didn't stand. If Gerald Ford had won the 1976 election he would still have been eligible for re-election in 1980. However, if the attempted assasination of Reagan in early 1981 had succeeded and Bush had become President he wouldn't have been eligible in 1988. So far simple. Here is a theoretical question: Is it possible to have the 10 year-rule the other way round? I mean can a President who has served two terms, 8 years, be nominated as Vice-President of his successor? I guess not but unless it is specifically forbidden by law then it is permitted, isn't it? It would be very odd if the President who has left office became Vice-President and for some reason became President again through Vice-Presidency he could only serve as President for two more years.

Sweden and Finland kicking out thousands of Refugees.
-TSS- replied to Boges's topic in The Rest of the World
Sweden is kicking out people because the country is overflowing with refugees. Sadly, Finland is receiving everyone who just can manage to utter a single simple word "asylum". Southern-Finland is destined to become the dumping ground of the unwanted refugees and Northern-Finland is destined to be the dumping ground of the nuclear waste of the entire EU because of all the rocks. I'm so glad I don't have children who would face a terrible future in Finland. I've been telling people to urge their children to emigrate while they still can because this country will turn into a nightmarish dystopia. -
Europe is committing suicide. This Trojan horse of the fakeugees is just a prelude to what is going to happen. So sad. I'm advicing all the youngsters I deal with to emigrate to palces such as Canada, the USA, Australia. I'm too old to move and where would I move from my home anyway.

98% of adult immigrants entering Canada have higher qualifications than an average Canadian when as the respective figure in Germany is a mere 10% because we Europeans stupidly put other things first when deciding who to let in. Therefore little surprise that xenophobia has little appeal in North-America when as in Europe it is a natural consequence of totally foolish policies regarding immigration.

Cruz On The Way, 2016 Election USA
-TSS- replied to Exegesisme's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I can't believe that Americans really want Hillary for President but as the alternatives on the other side are so lousy they may end up electing her. The only reason I can think of for Hillary's success is that a great deal of people have very nostalgic feelings for the era of Bill's presidency. He was a very good president, I don't think anyone really disagrees with that. By electing Hillary people reflect to their nostalgic feelings as well as the absence of an electable alternative.- 250 replies

Canada Needs Direct Election Of The Prime Minister
-TSS- replied to Exegesisme's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The US-system is dysfunctional because it is centred too much around one personality ie. the President. If the President is in constitutional troubles then the whole system is paralysed, which happened with both Clinton with the Whitewater-case as well as with Reagan with the Iran-contra arms deals.- 195 replies

Better to be right and alone than be wrong and with a crowd. Ok, I realise that saying sounds very lame in English but you get the idea and perhaps there is a better worded saying to the same effect. That is however my feelings on the subject. You were warned and by you I mean all of us both in North-America and in Western-Europe but people were too busy with their naive refugees welcome-banners.
-
About 30000, most of them have arrived during the past three months. With family reunions following soon you can multiply that figure hy 4-5. Namely these fake refugees who have travelled through Europe through 8-10 countries, all of which perfectly safe, just to claim asylum in Finland. None of them has any basis whatsoever to be here and should be deported to the previous safe country which is in most cases Sweden. That is what would happen if we didn't have a government of quislings who are filling their pockets with the income from the lucrative asylum seeker-business. Mark my words, we are heading for a civil-war in this country. That may sound exaggerating today but events have moved so fast that nothing surprises.
-
Donald Trump is a jackass but the question is do you prefer him or Hillary? Unfortunately the other Republican candidates are so useless that you wonder whether they can tie their own shoe-laces. I'm sure that most Americans don't want either Hillary nor Trump but unfortunately that may be the choice they have.

I can see the article you posted is from 2011 but the recent events are much more serious. Finland will collapse as a society not only because of uncontrolled immigration but also because of indebtedness. I'm too old to emigrate but I keep on telling younger people who still have something to look forward to to leave Finland while they still can. This country will turn into a failed state in the 2020's. All social security will be abolished, all wages will be minimum and society as we know it today will cease to exist. IMF, ECB and the EU will confiscate all our natural resources such as ground water and forests. A lot of Finnish people will be living in tents be it winter or not.
