I can't blame Arabs for calling us Europeans as spineless wussies because that is what we are or have become over the years more likely. We in Europe have only ourselves to blame for becoming incredible sheeple and electing incredible pansies as our leaders.

Countries like France and Britain are screwed beyond redemption. As appealing as it may appear to some people to think that France just throws out all North-Africans, anyone with a slight knowledge of French history realises that is just fantasy-talk. A country like Finland could choose to follow a different path but our leaders are spineless worms and quislings of the worst kind. To put the previous in a less emoted manner the Finnish politicians really seem like they are not in charge at all but obey orders coming from outside the country. Is it Brussels, Berlin or even Washington they are taking their orders from is unclear but they are not masters in their own house. Politicians like that are usually called puppets. No reason to call them anything else in this context.

It is downright patronising to believe that the western style of democracy suits every country everywhere. Muslim countries usually thrive best when they have a military regime. When they have free elections they tend to elect islamist nutjobs like in Egypt.
-
I would imagine that in a cosmopolitan city such as Istanbul there would be no support for islamist regime. This night could really be good news or terribly bad news depending on whether the coup has succeeded or if there is a start of a civil war in Turkey.

Erdogan is one of the men whose fault it is why we in Europe are so screwed up. The other scapegoats are our own spineless leaders and the oligarchy and kleptocracy of the EU.
-
Either this is delightful news or a step into a bloody civil war.

A coup-attempt underway in Turkey!

I agree with your sarcasm. People in the west are incredibly naive in their belief what is right or wrong or who are the good guys and who are the bad guys.

I have nothing whatsoever against the idea of Bush and Blair convicted in the Hague for crimes against humanity the punishment being spending the rest of their lives in s room size of a cardboard-box. Never gonna happen but dreaming is free of charge.

This is just a prelude to what is to come as jihad in Europe is set to begin in September. If so attacks on this scale or worse will be a weekly occurrence. Then at the latest people will need to take their head out of their arse as living in denial will become almost impossible.

Why would you drive into a crowd with a truck full of guns if that meant you're going to lose the guns? Maybe because he was going to take the guns to a larger number of people but was going to be stopped and searched and risked losing all the guns. Why is the media desperate to make this as a lone-wolf incident?

A despicable and cowardly act of terrorism; besides, he was Tunisian. Tunisian aggrieved by what's going on in Iraq or Syria?

I wonder if under the new rules of aiming at as fixed-term parliaments as possible the new PM even has a right ot call a snap election. Do I remember right that didn't you in Canada also change the rules regarding early election so that there has to be a serious crisis or no confidence vote for government to call an early election? -
The costs and wastes of official bilingualism

English is the world number one language at the moment. Latin used to be the number one language and who knows maybe Chinese replaces English as the number one language in the future. However, at the risk of becoming boring with repeating myself I'll say this again: If English weren't the world number one language French would be. Therefore very little sympathy for the Canadians whining about bilingualism as opposed to our biligualism in Finland where we are trapped between two dwarf-languages. -

The appointment of the UN general-secretary needs the approval of all the permanent security- council members and the French will never accept anyone who doesnt speak French. -
If Mexicans are granted asylum on grounds of Mexico being a poor and dangerous country then all Central-American countries should be given the same treatment.

Is that Falcon Heights some sort of a posh area where black people stand out immediately by "not belonging there"? -

It is something of a mystery why Russian is so little known in Finland as mastering it could almost certainly guarantee a good job in trade. However, perhaps the reason is that it is a very daunting and difficult language to learn. Then there are of course people who consider Russia as the enemy and won't even think about learning the language of the enemy. -

To think of it, I can count 1-10, tell my name and where I'm from in German, Spanish, Russian and Swedish but no such hope in French. -

If English weren't the first language of the world then French would. No doubt about it. Therefore I'm beginning to have less sympathy for the Canadians' whinging about bilingualism as the situation opposed to us in Finland couldn't be starker; We in Finland speak a dwarf-language spoken and understood only in Finland and our bilingualism-language is Swedish which is spoken and understood outside of Sweden perhaps in Norway but not very much in Denmark. In Canada you have the chance of learning a real useful global language. We in Finland have this our bilingualism because our elite are still Swedish-speaking. Therefore let's teach every kid a language nobody understands anywhere outside Scandinavia. I bet you in Canada would imagine that because of our geography in Finland a lot of people in Finland would know Russian. I wish it were so but in reality it is very rare to come across a Finn who could string a sentence in Russian. Thanks to the effing Swedish. -
Europeans out of North-America then, dont you agree?

Can you believe that in Britain the police-officers don't carry guns at all? When somebody suggested that they should they refused. If a situation arises which needs armed response special forces are called in. I think that is a bit in the other extreme to the American system of cops being armed to the teeth. -

I'm glad that English is the leading world-language rather than German or French. I don't think German would have become the dominant language even if Germany had won the war. German is far too complicated to be a world lingua franca. I enjoy peeving off the British by telling them that English being the leading language has really nothing to do with the British but everything to do with the Ameticans. Of course I don't myself think that is entirely true but their reactions are worth it. -

Michael Gove is out of the Tory leadership-race. Quite a silly system they have as a mixture of MPs voting and the party-members electing between the final two.
