  1. If Trump were the Prime Minister of the United States he would probably been already voted out of his job by a vote of no-confidence..
  2. It would so much more honest by politicians after attacks like the one in Manchester instead of repeating the tired old platitudes like "we must be strong, dont give in to fear blaablaablaa" that this is just the way it is going to be in a multicultural society and in the future it is more likely to get worse than better. Get used to it or move into a forest.
  3. The main difference between the USA and the EU is that in the EU the constituent parts pretend to be independent countries when as especially in the case of smaller memebers such as Finland about 80% of the legislation emanates from the central-government in Brussels. My prediction is that give it 15-20 years more and there will be none of this pretending to be independent countries. It will be the United States of Europe. With the British being out of it and thriving.
  4. When there was the republic-referendum in Australia the republic lost the referendum not really because people would love the British royals who reside 10000 miles away anyway but for practical reasons; if it ain't broken don't fix it. Another reason was that there was confusion over the role of a supposed Australian president; would he be a ceremonial figurehead or one with large powers? People who thought it would be pointless to turn the office of the GG into president voted for things to stay as they were.
  5. The same reason why another attempt at a European empire called the EU will also fail.
  6. He is clearly not in his comfort-zone when talking about Middle-East politics. On the other hand, it doesnt matter; the people who voted for him dont care what his policies are regarding the Middle-East.
  7. I really hope the election turns out to be bacwards for the Tories; not a defeat but backwards compared to the 2015 totally good majority which PM May in her greed tries to expand. Even though the new election is not against the rule of the fixed term-parliament but it is against its spirit; This election is totally unnecessary.
  8. I don't know how it is around where you are but here in Finland the main-centre of the JW's is like some sort of castle with huge walls. Many embassies of big countries have less impressive buildings and premises.
  9. Corbyn is unelectable and the Labour-party knows it full well. They have to find a new charismatic leader for the elections in 2022. Probably by the time when the Tories will have been in power for 12 years and people will be fed up with them almost anyone who isn't batshit insane would lead Labour to a victory.
  10. There was an interview with the former Swedish PM Fredrik Reinfeldt who said that while he was on a plane flying over the vast Swedish countryside and while he was looking out of the window of the plane and saw all those vast fields and forests as far as the eye can see he thought that all the talk that there is not space for refugees, even millions of them, is simply rubbish. He just forgot one little detail; people don't live on fields or in forests but in houses and if there are not enough houses you must build new ones and that costs money.
  11. The EU would be good if it remained as a trading-block only. Unfortunately it has been hijacked by the federalist-fanatics who want to create a European super-state.
  12. It has been said that monarchy is a system which does not work in theory but works very well in practice.
  13. Even though some people say that this crisis has all the similarities to Watergate but I don't think Trump will be ousted or forced to resign. He will carry on through his term but most definitely he will be convinced in 2020 that looking for a re-election is not a good idea. Besides, by that time he could himself be fed up with the job. After all, by getting elected he already proved that he can do anything he wishes.
  14. Macron takes office tomorrow. No such ridiculously long period of transition between the election and taking office as somewhere else.
  15. These best cities to live in-surveys seem to always include the Austrian, Australian, New Zealand and Canadian cities.
  16. IIRC, there was some 10 quid-fee you had to pay in order to register as a voter in the Labour-leadership-election.
  17. It must really be said that Theresa May couldn't hope for a better campaign-manager for the forthcoming election as Jean-Claude Juncker. Namely, every time he makes an angry and all too often very childish statements about Brexit the support for the Tories jumps up a notch.
  18. Hopefully the new South-Korean president eases the tension as he has taken a reconciliatory tone towards NK.
  19. I would add to that the Swiss-model; direct democracy.
  20. Le Pen is a fascist, Macron is a puppet, Fillon is a thief (they all are but Fillon got caught, which means he is stupid as well) and all the other candidates were totally unvoteable. No wonder why the turn-out was low in both rounds.
  21. 12% voted blank or spoiled their ballots. Unsurprising really as none of the candidates this year deserved to win. How can politicians these days be of such sub-standard quality?
  22. Which provinces of Canada would be better off as independent countries rather than part of Canada? Certainly not Quebec but almost certainly British Columbia. Perhaps Ontario too.
  23. What kind of proportional representation do you have in mind if by-elections are still possible? I thought in most systems under PR if an MP dies or resigns then the first from the list who didn't get elected replaces the outgoing MP.
  24. NATO is obsolete anyway. Has been since 1991.
