Perhaps the thing what decided the outcome of the Brexit-vote was Obama's visit to the UK and how he told them to vote for remain. In almost any other country people would feel proud and privileged that the President of the United States comes over to give his advice but not so in the UK. There people thought that the foreigner was poking his nose where it doesn't belong by telling people how to vote.

Are aboriginals "immigrants"?

Yesterday I spotted news that in Greenland they have ambition to declare independence from Denmark in 2021. Perhaps not realistic but they can't be blamed for having that as their goal. -

Arabic more likely. -
Venezuela has certainly joined the already long queue of failed states. It seems that Maduro is even worse than Chavez and the arrest of the opposition-leaders clearly shows that it the country is a dictatorship.

Justin Trudeau the Worst PM Since Pierre Trudeau?
-TSS- replied to bush_cheney2004's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
So the conclusion is that if Mulroney was a crook, a thief and a liar he is still better than Trudeau jnr at least according to the OP of this thread as the title goes that Trudeau jnr is the worst PM since his father and Mulroney was PM after Pierre Trudeau. -
Justin Trudeau the Worst PM Since Pierre Trudeau?

Oh, I see. That anawers perfectly my original question. I seem to recall that the 1984 election was something of a revolution in Canadian politics as the Liberals were always considered the kind of a natural party of government. -

But he managed to cheat people to get him elected twice. If people had known from the start that he was a crook and a liar he wouldn't have become PM. He left office before the end of his second term and that woman had tthe unenviable role to be the scapegoat and in the following elections the party was destroyed. -

I get the impression from this forum that Mulroney isn't very fondly remembered in Canada. If I am right then why is it so? He won two elections, the first with a landslide, so what turned him unpopular in the end? -

I don't think he will seek a second term in 2020. Firstable, he is already old. Secondable, he doesn't like the idea of being a defeated President. I think that by winning the election last year he got what he wanted which was to show that he can do anything he wants, even become President of the United States. -

Do expat-Canadians have a right to vote in the Canadian federal elections? If so, then in which constituency do their votes count? The latest address while still living in Canada?

If there is anything to be learned from history it is that there is no such thing as anyone's "own lands". Stronger cultures will always crush under their feet the weaker ones which can do nothing but either adapt or disappear. However, strong cultures may not be strong forever and they may themselves end up being replaced. The same thing again; adapt or die! -
OK, I admit it; I was wrong when I said that Greenland would be better off being part of Canada than being a Danish colony. The reason I said that was as there is another Danish colony, the Faeroe-Isles, whose people are Scandinavian and therefore it makes perfect sense that they are a Danish colony but the Greenlanders have nothing in common with Denmark. Also there is a lot of talk in Denmark how all the immigrants should be dumped into Greenland, which in my opinion shows a kind of attitude that they don't really respect the Greenlanders at all. Fortunately, given the autonomy Greenland has such a dumping would be impossible. Perhaps Canada could legally dump its immigrants into Nunavut if it wanted to do so and the people of Nunavut would have no way of protesting about it.
-
Even though Greenland has a large degree of autonomy Denmark is still responsible for a lot of what is going on in Greenland and one thing is that as there are simply too few professional people in Greenland to keep the society running Denmark has offered lucrative 2-year deals for professional people to live in Greenland for that period of time. Some of them even stay there after their stint is over. About 10% of the population of Greenland are ethnic Danes. Is there something similar regarding Nunavut?

Seems to be the trend all over the western world. I wonder why that is. My view is that truly talented and smart people don't want to get into politics any more because in business there is so much better money to be gained. -
A year ago Corbyn received a lot of criticism for what seemed to be a lacklustre campaign in favour of the remain-camp. Because of this many people think that he was secretly satisfied with the outcome of the referendum.

Sorry, I replied to your post before I read the link you provided as in the link there was an answer to my question.

I don't know about the Canadian Inuits but in Greenland they have a huge problem of alcoholism, deprivation and most of all suicides which is the hjghest rate in the world. In canada, the US, Australia those problems with the indigenous people is often explained by the lost land-theory but in Greenland they have a country of their own where they are the majority. So the lost land-theory doesn't explain those problems.

It is your system but I'll still say that in my opinion it is not right that the PM has the say who becomes GG who, after all, as being the Queen's representative has at least a formal role of being a watchdog of the government.

I wonder do you get different news over there in Canada compared to what we get in Finland.

Now that Mosul has been liberated it is no longer unsafe. Moreover, they desperately need their people back there for rebuilding.

I thought it was common knowledge that the Vikings discovered North-America long before Columbus did. For some perhaps very understandable reason the Vikings decided that it was not their preferential choice and headed back home.
