There was the famous Ugandan leader years ago who said that everyone has the freedom of speech but he cant guarantee freedom after speech.

Erdogan got what he wanted? Oh dear! Who would have ever believed that?

Over here in Finland there is some Orthodox Easter-service going on on TV. I quite like the Orthodox-sermons but one thing really disturbs me about that occasion; the Finnish language of the sermon. Finnish is simply not the language of the Orthodox-church and any sermon held in Finnish smells fake miles away.

Bomb North-Korea with good food, fashionable clothes, i-phones, tablets etc. It would be a miracle if it didnt lead to an uprising.

If Seoul weren't such a short distance away from the border and therefore very vulnerable the N-Korean regime would have been overthrown years ago. Even in the case of certain destruction the North-Koreans are able to cause a lot damage to the South-Korean capital.

The NHL isn't going to the next Olympics.
-TSS- replied to Boges's topic in Travel, Leisure and Sports
There isn't really a good time to have a best-on-best hockey-tournament. September is not good because the season hasn't really started yet when as February is even worse as it messes up the NHL-season. The best time would be in the middle of May if only the Stanley Cup-finals were played six weeks earlier. -
^but as they are not an independent country yet they still need a permission from London to hold another referendum.

Full Autonomy For The Provinces. Yes or No
-TSS- replied to Dick Tator's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I don't think so. There won't be proliferation of countries, the development is heading exactly the opposite direction. The European super-state etc. -
Full Autonomy For The Provinces. Yes or No
-TSS- replied to Dick Tator's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The Canadian provinces are very large in geographic terms. Apart from the tiny PEI and the middle-sized Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, all the rest are larger than France which is the geographically largest country in Western-Europe. Perhaps that only tells you that European countries are hopelessly small and crammed. -

They are trying to make that World Cup the most prestigious tournament in hockey. The problem has only been that people don't take that tournament very seriously. As long there are best players in the olympics the world cup has no chance of becoming the most prestigious tournament. -
I don't think that there's going to be another independence-referendum in Scotland. Last time the campaign was so divisive and ugly that they really don't want to go through all that again.

It becomes less and less important what the EU or their unelected bureacrats say. A crumbling paper-tiger.- 31 replies

They rely on robots to do the menial-tasks which have until now required low-paid workers. It's a topic for another thread but there simply won't be demand for human-labour in the coming decades, which means mass-unemployment, which means a lot of restlessness all over the so-called developed world.

Indeed, I wonder how do the Japanese get away with not accepting muslims in their country. If a Western-European country took such a stance there would be endless whining about racism and discrimination.

I guess the answer you are looking for is that they don't poke their noses where their noses are not welcome.

Justin Trudeau the Worst PM Since Pierre Trudeau?
-TSS- replied to bush_cheney2004's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Pierre Trudeau was easily the internationally best-known Canadian politician. I would say that most people outside Canada would be hard-pressed to name any other Canadian PM but Trudeau was known outside Canada too. -
I have always thought that Canadians are level-headed people and don't really have any time for the religious bollocks; a sharp contrats to the people in the USA. That's what I thought. Maybe I thoght wrong.

Justin Trudeau the Worst PM Since Pierre Trudeau?

I thought that people who are old enough to remember Pierre Trudeau think quite fondly of him. perhaps I thought wrong. -
The Brits have always been reluctant Europeans; they only joined the EEC because of the trade-benefits but now as the lunatics have taken over in the EU and the EU is being pushed towards deeper and deeper integration finally leading to full federalism that is unacceptable for the Brits. It is a shame that the Brits had to leave the EU but you can't blame them for doing so because of the way the EU is going. Britain is an important country and they will bounce on their feet. London will remain a financial capital of Europe if not the whole world.

In the Scandinavian Lutheran countries people concretly either belong or don't belong to the church. If you belong to the church you pay taxes to the church. At least that is the case here in Finland. The church-tax is about 1% of your income depending on the area where you live in. As I earlier said, the church-membership has gone down from 90% in the 1990's to the current 72% butit really beats the hell out of me how rich we people in Finland are! Namely, even 72% of the population are happy to pay 1% of their income to pay for the wages of the priests and bishops and advance the bollocks the church is advocating. Imagine yourselves in Canada and think of 1% of your income per year and think would you rather keep that money yourself or would you kindly give it to some ridiculous church. Apparently still 72% of Finns rather pay for the wages of bishops rather than take an extra foreign holiday every year.

I have often wondered how was it possible that when Russia conquered Finland in 1809 and held it until 1917 it never made any concerted effort to convert Finns to the Russian Orthodox religion. Afyer all, usually colonisers always force their colonies to convert to the colonisers religion. To this day only 1% of Finns are of the Russian Orthodox religion. Lutheranism is the so-called state-religion. I'm glad to say that belonging to any religion has gone down and very fast in Finland today. In1990 about 90% of the population were still Lutherans but today that proportion is 72% and decling fast. I left that bollocks of a religion as soon as I was 18.

A clip about Bokassa of Central African Republic becoming an emperor of his country. His coronation-ceremony cost about 1/3 of the national assets thus practically bancrupting the country. Thinking about it, while a crazy dictator declares himself as an emperor and no outside power recognizes such an empire, which is right, but by the same token, why do we still recognize the British monarchy, the Swedish monarchy, the Dutch monarchy etc? How are they different from the monarchy self-proclaimed by Bokassa? The same bullshit in a different package. The fact that the bullshit was once upon a time taken seriously does not make it less bullshit than the bullshit which was never taken seriously.

Suspected terrorist attack in London 4 dead including the attacker
-TSS- replied to kactus's topic in The Rest of the World
I think the most astonishing detail of this attack was that the guy was 52 years old! I mean it is easy to understand that young people can be brainwashed into anything but one would have thought that a guy of that age already knows that all that religious rubbish is just that, rubbish and bullshit. -
RCMP will not report on illegals entering Canada.
-TSS- replied to taxme's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
How can there be illegal immigrants in Canada as there is only one obvious place they could be coming from and that place is usually the most wanted destination of illegal immigrants in the world? I mean they are not coming from the North-Pole nor are they very likely to paddle across either ocean surrounding Canada.
