  1. It's a cry wolf-thing. When people have been lied to many enough times they won't recognize when they are told the truth.
  2. The problem is that these people who are pushing these vaccinations aren't exactly the paragons of honesty themselves. Therefore people have every right to treat them and their ideas with utmost suspicion.
  3. Even though otherwise I couldn't care less about the British royals but I regard it as a bit of return to normality when the British press publish stories about the royals as their first news.
  4. Taiwan is next to Wuhan and they are very safe. That is because they have their tentacles ready for the slightest aberration from normal and act accordingly.
  5. It is amazing how fast our lives have changed completely. Only in January people were talking that there is some virus going on in China, should we be worried about it, but many if not most people said that there is nothing to worry about. Still in February life was normal even though people already were more worried. Only in March did hell break loose. Only a few months ago we would have associated the word curfew with some third World dictatorships. The idea that many western countries would learn the hard way the meaning of the word would have been unthinkable only a short time ago.
  6. Most world leaders knew about it but money was more important.
  7. Britain now the worst hit country in Europe. That was always going to be inevitable. A very densely populated country and a huge global city as their capital is a bad mix in this situation.
  8. Someone asked quite fittingly that can't we even have a pandemic without someone getting offended.
  9. I think one benchmark, which has been crossed a long time ago, was that the virus has killed more people in NYC than were killed in 9/11.
  10. You must understand that Bill Gates doesn't have enough money so we must all take his vaccine.
  11. Even though the figures for Sweden are horrific now but what will they be in 2-3 months time in comparison to other countries? I mean, as a Finn I know those Swedes simply have some sort of skill to always land safely and avoid the worst.
  12. I was kind of wondering if we started having Central-American drug gangs over here would we be delighted that at least they are not Muslim-terrorists so they are completely welcome. Does this work the other way round too; Do many North-Americans think they would rather have a lot of muslims and Africans if only the Central- and South-Americans disappeared?
  13. Here in Europe as our immigrants are mainly Africans and Middle-Eastern Muslims and and as a result there is also Muslim-terrorism and as we have really no experience of Central-Americans or South-Americans many of us here think we would happily rather have people from those countries than the Muslims from Africa and the Middle-East. But that's just because we don't know about those people. The drug-cartels and gang-crime brought to Norht-America by the Central- and South-American immigrants is horrific. Countries like Honduras and El Salvador have the highest murder-rates anywhere in the world surpassing the African rates.
  14. Hugging complete strangers regardless of their nationality is not very recommandable anyway.
  15. Mostly yes. Some with reduced hours though.
  16. Are you in Canada in a lockdown? In big cities at least? I'm glad here in Finland they have not imposed any absolute curfews as such would be ridiculous in a sparsely populated country as ours and ours is nowhere near as sparsely populated as yours is. Bars and restaurants are shut as are many public places such as libraries or sporting facilities.
  17. I don't want to defend creepy-Joe but these women who all of a sudden start remembering things which happened 25 years ago are just not credible.
  18. Our figures in Finland are just too good to be true, or yes they are true, but I mean that they would stay that good. Yes, we are very good by nature at social distancing compared to the Southern-European cointries where touchy feely hugging and kissing on both cheeks is the norm but even considering that aspect I expect things to get worse here in Finland too. Yet, I'm not sure whether the strict lockdown-policies adopted in France, Italy, Spain etc is the right course to take. I can understand banning mass-gatherings like sport, concerts etc because they are high risk/low priority but is shutting down the entire economy the right path to take. I don't agree with the multiple conspiracy-theorists around this issue but I think it is little wonder there are conspiracy-theories around this issue. Too many weird things going on.
  19. No country can afford to be in a full lockdown for months so some of the restrictions will be lifted. However, the ones concerning mass-gatherings will be the last ones to be lifted as they are high risk/low priority. So, no concerts, no sports etc for many months to come.
  20. Yes, a lot of paper-mills have been closed and the rest will follow in the not so distant future.
  21. If you have a big house and a garden then a lockdown and self-isolation is not such a problem but if you live on the 15th floor of a tower block and you are told to stay there for weeks it is no wonder if some people start öosing their minds.
  22. I don't think so but it is a perfect opportunity to promote certain measures.
  23. I honestly couldn't give a shit if all bars and restaurants were shut forever but there are a lot of people whose livelihoods depend on those places opening as soon as possible. I'm glad I'm not young any more!
  24. I guess there is also a lot of complacency about the definition of the so-called risk-groups which is understood to mean only the elderly people. So, if you are considerably under the age of 70 you may think you are safe. But it is not only the elderly who are the risk-group. People with underlying health-conditions belong there too. People who are obese, of which there are millions in America, people who have diabetes, asthma etc.
  25. In Finland we say it is the smell of money when people complain about the unpleasant smell emitted by the paper-mills.
