America under President Trump
-TSS- replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
There is this fantasy about thinking that Latinos will start voting for the Republicans because the Latinos are conservatives by nature. First of all, the Republicans have become labelled as a party for old white men to the extent that it takes some doing to attract voters from elsewhere. Secondly, are the Latinos really that conservative? Perhaps that was the case in the 70's but now? I don't think so. Christianity has gone downhill and especially Catholicism. When as in the 70's the word from the pope really meant something these days it means nothing. Namely, the birth-rate of the Latinos is below the replacement-rate, which would be impossible if they took their Catholicism seriously as their religion forbids not only abortion but also contraceptives. (Btw I have no idea where they have had this thing from in the first place that abortion and contraceptives are wrong as I guess when the Bible was written neither abortion nor contraceptives were were known). -

I often jocularly tease one of my Russian work-mates by asking shouldn't there be more black people in Russia. No way is his answer. I try to say that there are about 150 million people in Russia so something like 5-10 million black people would make no difference. Not going to happen is the answer of my work-mate. If anyone in Russia ever tried to push such an agenda it would lead to a civil-war. On a serious note, there may be no black people in Russia but there are millions of Caucasians(not meaning the American definition for white people) and they are a real PITA for Russia. -
America under President Trump

Does anyone think there is anything good about Biden other than that his not Trump? -
It is absolutely annoying how the woke-crowd are trying to push the American identity-politics into the European countries as well even though the context and the circumstances couldn't be more different. In Europe we just don't categorize ourselves by things like white, black, latino, asian etc. In Euriope we categorize ourselves based on our nations and the people from those nations.
-
Currently looks good for Biden. The big question is that do people hate Trump more than dislike the idea of electing a senile goofy. 4 years ago people hated Trump less than could stomach the idea of another Clinton in the White House. Elections are always a question of picking lesser evils.

I'm glad that here in Europe nobody really cares about abortion. It just isn't an issue over here. That would only needlessly divide the nationalistic lines.

It looks like the disease has been suppressed here in Finland. There are less than 20 people in hospital-treatment for the disease and people are acting like the virus is just a bad memory. My main fear is that people will fetch the disease back by travelling as tourism begins to open up. Unfortunately many Finns are such oikophobic people that the idea of spending an entire year in our home-country is just too much to ask for.

I was reading some posts of this thread and I was wondering how they seemed somehow strange and then I looked at the date when the thread was started.

A mask protects you from the virus like barbed wire protects you from mosquitos.

In many third world countries it is the major source of revenue that their people living in rich countries send money back home. Even the unemployment-benefit in almost any western country is a huge sum in the third world countries.

Donald Trump vs Joe Biden
-TSS- replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
When Bush Sr lost 28 years ago it was because of his "read my lips, no new taxes"-quip from the campaign 4 years earlier. A similar thing for Trump could be "We are going to build a wall and Mexico will pay for it". -

Co-incidence or not, this time 28 years ago was the LA-riots. That was also an election-year. Later that year the incumbent president Bush sr lost. I guess some people hope that history would repeat itself. -

Even if Trump wins again, and that's a big if, he almost certainly loses the popular vote again like four years ago. That is because of California and New York. -
In many countries toying with the idea of seceding is a serious offence no matter how ridiculous or unrealistic it is. Therefore the American, or perhaps the Washington-state, authorities have shown great restraint with these lunatics.

Does "taking a knee" sound less submissive and groveling than kneel?
-
The authorities are being very patient; instead of cutting off water and electricity to CHAZ they wait that the citizens of the New country get bored. Or hungry.

A couple of days and their utopia has already run out of food. These guys should definitely be allowed to run an entire country. Or perhaps not.
-
This socialist utopia of theirs must work perfectly in theory. Practice is another matter. This would be hilarious if ordinary people weren't stuck there with these nutcases.

Seems like people believe that holding BLM-placards protect from the coronavirus more efficiently than wearing masks. -
Countries like Italy and Spain will be devastated this year as they are very reliant on tourism and even when tourism will be allowed again a lot of people will think twice about going to those countries which were real virus-hotspots.

It seems people are treating the coronavirus as something which has passed away or at least not something too serious to stop people from going to virtue signalling protests. Hopefully such complacency won't bite them in the ass. If this American incident had happened in March then people wouldn't have dared to gather in large groups of protests. Back in March people were genuinely frightened of the virus. -

It's an extremely interesting phenomenon how quickly and easily mass-psychosis spreads through the population when the circumstances are right. I'm sure there must be a lot of university-studies on the subject. -

Co-incidence perhaps but the worst riots seem all to be in Democrat-controlled states and cities. Some sort of partition of the USA is inevitable in the future. Not this year or next year or even next decade but it is inevitable nevertheless. -

All of a sudden the coronavirus has become old news. Around this same time in 1992 there were the LA-riots. They started from a similar incident, lasted for a while and then the rioters got bored. This time it will be the same.
