  1. The shitty rehashed deal was rejected by parliament today, which was probably the plan all along. Now Johnson relies on that the EU won't grant an extension. That means Britain is out on October 31st. An extension is still more likely. That would make Johnson seem very weak with his earlier dead in a ditch-statements. However, if or when Brexit happens it would only mean that remainers would become rejoiners and the leavers, well, outstayers or something similar but the whole circus would go on.
  2. It is always leftists who are in favour of compulsory voting. They think that the people who don't vote would vote for the left if they voted. I don't think that is a right analysis though. There are always people who simple don't care either way. Besides, if people were forced to vote there would be a lot of smudged ballot-papers. Would people have to prove somehow that they cast a vote which counts?
  3. I'm not British so it is a bit hard for me to say how important an ordinary Brit in the British mainland views Northern-Ireland but may I take a guess? Most people don't give a flying fuck about Northern-Ireland and therefore that this Brexit-process is stalling because of Northern-Ireland is all the more annoying.
  4. He is internationally well-known. Knowing who is the PM of Canada is not part of general knowledge but everyone knows Justin Trudeau. Most people outside Canada have never heard of the alternatives to JT.
  5. There will a lot of angry people on Nov 1. Who those people Still remains to be seen but it is inevitable that in three weeks time there will be some hassle.
  6. I have been wondering how on earth are politicians these days such a mediocre bunch. Perhaps the brightest minds choose to go to the business-life rather than politics.
  7. Why do people always assume that an eco-fascist government which takes drastic measures to combat climate change is going to be some green socialist open borders government? After all, immigration from low carbon footprint countries into high ones is definitely not a good policy. A future eco-fascist government could be one to shoot everyone who attempts to enter the country without permission.
  8. If I were British I would have voted for Brexit. After all, Britain is a major country and they will always be all right. The EU needs them as much as the other way round. Britain has half the rest of the World on its side in form of the Commonwealth. The Brits are going to be all right. If there a was a referendum here in Finland on seceding from the EU I don't think I would vote for it. We are not Britain.
  9. The EU itself shouldn't have granted this current extension. Britain should have been kicked out in the end of March as origannally planned.
  10. The British Parliament is so theatrical.
  11. Johnson either has very high self-confidence or he knows something we don't as he plays this do or die-game. If Britain is still in the EU on Nov 1st his credibility is zero. The court's ruling is correct. Totally unthinkable that the PM would have power to stop Parliament from meeting. Nov1st will be a very restless day in Britain depending on whether Brexit has happened/been delayed/been cancelled.
  12. Remoaners dont really want another referendum. They just want to ignore the first one saying that it was only advisory, which is true, no denying that. However, if there was a second referendum and leave won agaiin, perhaps even with a bigger margin, do you think then the remoaners would accept defeat and give up? In your dreams!
  13. This reminds me of the episode how Prince Harry wore a nazi-uniform in some fancy-dress party. The outrage was huge. Later he married a mixed-race woman. I don't think Harry is a real nazi.
  14. Have any actual minorities expressed outrage at this terrible terrible scandal or is it, as usually, white middle-class leftists and champagne-socialists virtue signalling? If Trudeau wasn't such a hypocrite I'd almost feel sorry for him about this witch-hunt.
  15. The stances are clear except for one party; the LibDems want to cancel Brexit altogether, no new referendum. The Labour-party wants a new referendum between remain and a shitty deal. The deal is so shitty that even many hard-core Brexiteers would prefer remain. The new party, the Farage-party, sorry, I meant the Brexit-party wants a hard Brexit but they call it a clean break Brexit. Only the Tories' stance is not clear. They are hopelessly divided between a Brexiteer leader and ardent remoaners.
  16. Is anyone of you old enough to remember the time when Pierre Trudeau was PM? Probably considered as good old times since Justin has got where he is now because of his name, not his merits.
  17. Do you think there are people who were going to vote for the Liberals but this incident made them change their minds? Surely no one can be that fickle. Nice timing though to discover that photo.
  18. If there is one country for which Brexit could be a disaster it is Ireland. Namely, Britain will always manage, in or out of the EU, but Ireland is totally dependant on Britain and if there is a no deal Brexit it will be a big blow for Ireland.
  19. Just like the debt-crisis destroyed the political framework in Greece the same is happening in Britain because of Brexit. This has been fun to watch. Some sort of a political realignment is taking place and the old two-party division is breaking down.
  20. I think that the fixed term parliament-act is a good reform as previously the PM had an unfair advantage over being able to declare new elections by himself. However, the new law is now hampering solution. If there was no such a law new elections would have been called and the Tories remoaner-MPs would be deselected from becoming even candidates. The Brexit-party doesn't trust Johnson. They want what they call a clean break Brexit. They fear that Johnson in order to deliver Brexit by Oct 31st may rehash Theresa May's shitty deal.
  21. The fixed-term act is proving to be a mistake. After all, it was the Tories themselves who pushed it through. Without it an election would already have been called.
  22. Strange how they don't even know themselves in Britain if the PM has a right to ask prorogation of parliament but need court-decisions to figure it out. Perhaps something to do with the lack of a written constitution. I find such a right very strange but if he has such a right then shut up and put up. Does the Canadian PM have such a right? I doubt it he has.
  23. I watched some bits of the latest Democratic-debate, It was a humiliation for Biden as he was exposed of having some sort of early dementia. He may be ahead in the polls but he won't get the nomination. My bet goes to Pocahontas. The Democrats have veered so much to the left they genuinely think that she has a real chance of winning. If next year was 2040 she might have a real chance of winning but the demographics haven't changed enough yet to make it impossible for the Republicans ever to win again.
  24. Does Canada have by-elections like Britain does? Namely, if a parliamentary seat becomes vacant in the middle of a term there is an extra-election in that constituency, or riding as you seem to call them in Canada.
  25. Full scale fear mongering going on in the British remainstream media. A no deal Brexit would mean shortage of food, shortage of medicine, shortage of fuel. It will be interesting 7 weeks ahead. If Britain is still in the EU on Nov 1st Johnson may as well go.
