In a year's time we are going to be talking about how a fifth wave is on its way and we better start with restrictions again. But this time there really is going to be a vaccine soon. This hope of a vaccine coming soon gives people strength to stand all the restrictions. If you told them this is what life is going to be like for the unforeseeable future the reaction could be nasty.

It is the RINOs who are the biggest losers in this episode. Trump himself is too old to carry on in 4 years time but he could start a Trumpist movement. The Democrats on the other hand are going to be in power. But why would anybody vote for the RINOs?

There's no point in replacing the monarchy with a republic of a ceremonial president like in Germany, Italy etc. What would be the point of doing that? As for presidency with large powers like in the USA and France I think experience from those countries has showed that is not an ideal system either.

I don't mind wearing a mask for 10-15 minutes while on public transport or at shop but fortunately I don't have to wear one while at work. 8 hours would be too inconvenient.
-
In many European countries where the covid-situation has got very bad indeed there have been mandatory masks since the spring. Do you think the situation in those countries would be even worse had there not been such a requirement? Having said that, in the Eastern-Asian countries where they have a long tradition of wearing masks they have learned to do it properly. In Europe people don't know how to do it properly and by wearing masks incorrectly they often only make things worse.

Exactly my thoughts. Yet I go to public transport wearing a mask because I don't want to be harassed by busybodies even though I haven't heard that of having happened here in Finland. Apparently stuff like that happens all the time in the USA and the UK. Perhaps we Finns just don't act like that. I wonder will Biden becoming president mean that covid will go away or will it mean that there will be even more stringest measures in place to force people to stay at their homes. Time will tell.
-
Masks actually work. Not in the way people who speak for them say they work but in the way that people who hate wearing them start avoiding situations where wearing masks is required. In other words large crowds of people. I wonder will covid all of a sudden disappear completely after Biden takes office. Just like the BLM-riots stopped when it began to be apparent they were harmful for the Democrat poll-ratings.

Is it compulsory to wear a mask at public spaces in Canada? Here in Finland it is only heavily recommended but lately it has become a social norm to wear a mask. Me too. It is less of a trouble just to wear a mask than to be confronted by occasional busybodies who demand to know the reason why you aren't wearing a mask. Anyone with an ounce of common sense realises that mask-thing is total bollocks but we seem to be lacking in people with common sense. However, it is quite interesting to see how wearing a mask seems to be behind such a high threshold for many western people. Perhaps it is seen as a symbol of being a sheep or a slave. Eastern-Asians consider us westerners completely filthy for not wearing masks. For them wearing masks is part of their culture. They also don't have to worry about not being deemed racist.

Face Mask Toxicity Test - Fail! & Mist Test
-TSS- replied to zagzig's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Due to some legal things people can't be forced to wear a mask here in Finland but only heavily recommended to do so. I wonder how that is since in many other countries wearing masks is mandatory and refusal to do so carries a very hefty fine. In the UK it is something like hundreds of pounds. I only wear a mask at shops and in public transport because I don't want some busybody coming to me asking me why I'm not wearing a mask. Not because I would think masks are useful at all- But does that make any difference? If the purpose is that people wear masks does it matter do they do so because they do so because they think it is useful or they do so because they want avoid hassle? Be a good sheep. Baahbaah. -
U.K. trade agreement exposes the PM for what he is
-TSS- replied to Minnetonka's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The overseas Commonwealth-countries have all of a sudden become very precious friends for the UK as the EU will act like a jealous partner who has been rejected and will make life for the UK as difficult as possible. You in Canada can ask the UK why you weren't considered so good friends prior to 2016. -
Even though hardly anybody likes Biden for himself, he just isn't Trump, I guess of the ones on offer in the Democratic primaries he was the least worst. All the other ones had something fundamentally wrong about them to think of them to be president. I just can't help wondering weren't there any Democrats who would have been much better than Biden but who decided not to run. After all, when the primaries started the coronavirus-crisis had not yet fully become the one and only news-story and it seemed more than likely that Trump would be re-elected.

Perhaps the election-process needs more centralism and less federalism. If there are 50 sets of rules how elections are conducted it is bound to lead to a mess.

Liberals to greatly increase immigration in coming years.
-TSS- replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Has Canada always accepted immigrants from all over the world or have you had a similar approach to immigration like Australia which up until the 1960's only accepted mainly British and Northern-Europeans to enter their country? -
As long as the world runs on fiat-money it really is only a question of detail who is the president of the USA. The boss of the fed has way more real power.

Next year this same time we'll be hearing news about the fifth wave approaching and new restrictions on the way but a promise of a vaccine coming up very soon. This is a thing we will just have to learn to live with. Perhaps concerts and other mass-gatherings are a thing of the past. Fortunately for myself I couldn't care less for such things.

Trump would have caused a disappointment for the lefties if he had fairly admitted defeat and congratulated the winner. Instead by his petulant behavior he is acting on the left's wet dream. The only thing which is missing in making the left's dream come true is that on Jan 20 Trump barricades himself in the White House and he will have to be dragged out by force.
-
Indeed. How many of those votes were given to Trump in particular compared to how many of them were given to a Republican Presidential candidate. Trump has little gratitude towards the Republicans so he can take on a role of being something of an opposition-leader even though he has no position whatsoever in the party. The worst nightmare the Republicans really imagine now is that Trump doesn't go away quietly.
-
With hindsight it can be said now that the Republicans themselves should have challenged Trump. It is funny how in American politics an incumbent President seeking re-election is always exempt from primaries or even if there are primaries the incumbent gets over 90% of the votes when there are only attention-seeking village idiots challenging him.
-
I hoped for Trump's re-election but he lost. So be it. Life goes on. This clutching at straws hoping to change the outcome of the election is very embarrassing to say the least. The butthurt about Trump's victory four years ago never really eased. Are we going to listen to this election fraud-bollocks next four years?
-
Do some people honestly believe that a court can declare that x number of votes will be disqualified and that means that Trump won the election? Not going to happen but let's imagine such a thing happened. What do you think would happen next? The Democrats saying "well, we apparently lost, congratulations to President Trump". A civil war more likely.
-
I wonder is it compulsory for the leaving President to attend the inauguration of his successor. Even if it isn't it would be very poor conduct not to do so unless stopped by a genuine reason like illness.
-
I wonder how many of the 70 million+ votes were specifically given to Trump and how many of them were given to a Republican presidential candidate.
-
I wonder will Trump just go away or will he start acting like some sort of an opposition-leader even though he has no official position in the party. The Republican establishment surely wants him gone but he may not bow to that wish.
-
A two party-system combined with identity politics isn't a very good combination. In many Democrat-controlled areas where government is absolutely dismal they still won't vote for the other party because you just don't do that in identity politics. Having said that, haven't almost all the short-lived third party-projects been about parties being ones thinking the Republicans are too soft and not enough right wing?
-
Hopefully Trump doesn't get up to anything stupid during these 11 weeks he is a lame duck.
