As much as it could trigger cash grabitis from greedy retailers, I would love to see the end of the senseless (heheheh) penny. I would be more concerned about small stores and mom and pop run businesses than I would large organizations which would have company wide policy with programmed tills. Gas prices could still go up in single cents, only the final price (including double taxation by way of the GST charged on the total) would need to be rounded. I hate the penny.

Happy Anniversary Iraq!
sharkman replied to bush_cheney2004's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Okay, have it your way: Clinton also did not champion some initiative to jump start electric cars or hybrids or some other environmentally friendly car. If a leftwing news source like MSNBC finds the cost would be reduced 50 cents and only for a few months(AHAHAHAHAHA!), it must be true? The point is, the US wouldn't be spending the billions on oil from nations that hate them and support terrorism. The billions would stay in house, helping their own economy, and environazis would have at least two more great reasons to have a rally/protest and damage public property! -
Happy Anniversary Iraq!

Uh, no, Clinton was the one who opened up trade with China, and his administration did not do anything to end dependancy on Arab oil, such as allow drilling in Alaska or several other places. -
Happy Anniversary Iraq!

Whatever the US economic situation HisSelf, I think you are giving too much credit to the Iraq war. Presently, the US is spending 12 billion a month on the war, or about 144 billion for the 2008 year, which is small potatoes for the US. And I understand this is at a higher rate than in the war's earlier years. Whatever the case, however, the US seems to be facing some tough years ahead, and us Canadians as well since we do about 80% of our exports there. -
Yes, they hurt indeed. Under those 3 majorities, Canadians saw their medical system underfunded to such an extent that line ups for operations became the norm. I wonder if our medical system will ever return to normal since thousands of Canadians have fled to the US to practice their medical professions there. I laughed my ass off when I heard Martin wasn't even using the medical system, but a private clinic instead.

Obama's spiritual mentor says: God Damn America
sharkman replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
If he strongly condemns the statements made by his pastor, why would he continue to go to his church for 20 years? This is political bs by Obama's camp. And he only came out to "strongly condemn" the statements after several days of media pressure. -
Obama's spiritual mentor says: God Damn America

You are missing the point. You can gain great insight into a person's character by whether they think God damns or God blesses, even if you don't believe in God. -
Obama's spiritual mentor says: God Damn America
sharkman replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I can not imagine how a pastor would get political at all, let alone that political in a sermon. As a Christian, God doesn't damn nations or people, He merely does not protect them from the consequences of their actions and decisions, whether they be good or bad. For a minister of the Gospel to say things like that behind the pulpit, he too will suffer the outcomes of his words, as he has been no doubt doing for years. If you listen to him, he thinks white people are bad and black people good. He doesn't look at the heart anymore, only the skin. -
U.S. Presidential Elections 2008
sharkman replied to moderateamericain's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I may have missed that, is there any links showing actual proof that McCain sought Hagee's endorsement? At any rate, it certainly isn't the same thing as being a member of his church for over 20 years as Obama and the church he attends. -
The waterboarding poll
sharkman replied to Moonlight Graham's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Pardon me for dragging up this comment from earlier in the thread, but since this poster seems to hate Americans so much, it puzzles me why he acts like the stereotypical loud brash knowitall braggart American he loves to hate. Setting aside the trolling and 16 year old attitude, there is very little left to chew on in his comments. Only a boastful juvenile who thinks he's the smartest one in the room while everyone else in the room is smiling up their sleeves and avoiding eye contact. And after a short while the shtick starts to get rather boring. -
The waterboarding poll
sharkman replied to Moonlight Graham's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
It was my understanding that waterboarding included some sort of cloth over the person's face while water was poured, and also that this is also done to some of the American military forces while in training. Am I mistaken? -

Brace yourself Moxie, now that you've proven it did happen they will share such gems such as, " One single case doesn't prove anything", or "I never said it didn't EVER happen", or whatever. We could dig out video of many incidents of 'Nam or Iraq soldiers getting shameful treatment, but you know what? Why waste my time when these see no evil lefties would not change their minds unless it happened to them? -
What Went Wrong For Barack Obama

Unfortunately, using dumbed down leftwing logic and extrapolating based on flawed assumptions such as, "They will behave as I would in that situation", only reveals your flaws. Stop embarrassing yourself. -
I heard Russia shut off oil to Georgia recently, is this part of the same situation?

The Fall of the US Dollar
sharkman replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
The US dollar is a reflection of many things: trade imbalance, debt, economy and interest rates, to name a few. I believe right now the bulk of the problem has to do with a recession and the strategy to treat that, lowering interest rates. International investors realize they can get better interest rates in Canada and other places, so they withdraw their millions from the US which then weakens the US dollar. The trade imbalance and huge debt are also harmful to their dollar and even when the recession is over these two issues will not go away. Edited to add: I forgot to mention the effects of $50/barrel oil. Now that it's over $100, the effects are dramatic. -

How 'bout this, the lives of conspiracy theorists (such as yourself) are needlessly complicated. -
Apparently the naive Western media is partly successful in its brainwashing attempts.

Yeah, the freedoms that the left all hold so dearly, abortions, gay marriage, and smoking pot. I'm pretty sure those who died for our freedoms didn't die for those ones. What police state? The police have soooo many t's to cross and i's to dot just to get a criminal to court only to see the judge throw out the case on the drug dealer because of some slight only the judge can see. It's not a police state but a criminal state. Our laws have given the criminals so many rights they actually have more after they get arrested. In today's local paper, a child molester was given a sentence for molesting two boys. Freedom, since the one year he got was served by a 6 month stint in the slammer while the case dragged on and on. They get double time credit, and miniscule sentences for wrecking someone's life. You are deluded to think we are close to a police state. Cheers.

Yeah, I think Dion and the NDP are weaseling around with Harper behind DrGreenthumb's back, those dirty so and so's! Canada has used its own military on it's citizens so rarely that clear minded people would clearly see that the chances of an American force being used for that is nil. If our oil industries came under attack by nut bar terrorists or rabid environmentalists, our own military wouldn't have the manpower to cover all the bases. In the event of a big quake in Toronto, we then would also be glad to see american soldiers digging for survivors. Some people worry about everything or nothing, depending on if the Tories are in power. Don't worry be happy.

What Went Wrong For Barack Obama
sharkman replied to M.Dancer's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
That's the same kind of short sighted thinking that got us into this mess! Nobody deserves a 9/11, a cowardly attack on innocent civilians. The U.S. didn't have anything coming, even if an Islamic extremist said so. And they deserve a round of applause for what they are doing in Iraq, there's a country that is now on the rebound and will soon be a force to be reckoned with. Even the nut bar president of Iran is now trying to curry favor with Iraq, he recently gave them 1 billion dollars. -

sharkman replied to White Doors's topic in Political Philosophy
Pardon me if I insert an irony. You speak of fundamental Christians as blaming America for 9/11 but seem to not be aware of the left's mindset in this matter. The left also blames America for 9/11; mind you not the nut jobs who think it was a conspiracy, although I suppose that would still make 9/11 the American government's fault. As far as comparing spitters and doctor shooters, howzabout you try to compare apples to apples, huh? -
Yeah, too bad with all of the years the Liberals had they chose to publicly distance themselves from the Americans but behind closed doors increased commerce with them whenever they could! They even allowed a very low dollar so our goods were cheaper to the Americans. They did nothing about the Free Trade Agreement and nothing about NAFTA. In other words, even the left wing Liberal Party realized having a relationship with the biggest and strongest empire in the world was not a bad thing, hard lefties harping notwithstanding.
