Humanity's progress is slow, it sometimes takes a step back momentarily, but it surely happens.

Doom is nigh is not an old curse, but an old saying. It never happens.

I did a search to verify if this line "May you live in interesting times" is an actual curse after your message above. 

Guess what? I have been repeating this one a few times now, got it from a "source". 

False: 

Despite being so common in English as to be known as the "Chinese curse", the saying is apocryphal, and no actual Chinese source has ever been produced.
