  1. I didn’t say people aren’t allowed to own guns, I said it wasn’t a RIGHT to own a gun. You understand that rights are defined in the Charter? https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/const/page-12.html Where in the Charter is the right to own a gun? I linked the Charter above so you don’t have to search for it.
  2. Why are you moving the goalposts? I’m not denying that we have laws against certain forms of speech. There are hate laws, libel laws, etc. But the argument is whether these are the same as blasphemy against religion. I think there’s a clear difference between inciting hate and/or violence against a particular group and being prosecuted for speaking out against religion. To analyze the difference, we’d need an example. I haven’t seen one yet.
  3. Not very specific. What can’t you say in Canada? Canada has no right to own guns, but neither do any other western democratic nations. And we can see from the statistics that we are all safer for it. And yet, we’re a much safer country. Your 3rd example even admits, in a roundabout way, that Canadians can defend themselves in their homes because you say “more likely to be questioned”. So the rights you’re concerned about that we don’t have, 2 of the 3 examples are the fact that you’d like to own more guns and shoot more people. Not the Canada I would prefer.
  4. If you would provide 1 example, we could at least analyze it. Maybe @I am Groot won’t be afraid to show one example where people are prosecuted for speaking against established doctrine.
  5. No examples given. Fringe view from a fringe politician and not an actual law.
  6. Again, examples of these unjust prosecutions would be nice.
  7. Any examples of these unjust prosecutions of people who are, apparently, just expressing their views?
  8. The reason many posters like anecdotes is because they lack actual data. And because they’re just trolls trying to get a rise out of people. Their goal isn’t conversation and debate over facts. How do you have a meaningful discussion about a topic with someone whose goal isn’t to discuss the topic?
  9. No, they’re not. Laws against promotion of hate/violence against specific groups is not the same as criticizing Jesus.
  10. The OP is fairly incoherent and looks like a bad cut/paste. But I’ll play along…. First, let’s grant there is this deity. Does God know what I will do before I do it? If so, how is there freewill? God knowing what I will do, and me having freewill is a contradiction. Clearly, by that definition, everything is predetermined, despite what the bible says about it.
  11. What specifically can they do in the USA that you cannot do here that is related to rights?
  12. Blasphemy is specific to religion. So, no, hate speech laws are not the same thing. You can’t promote hate against a religion, but you can blaspheme without risk of prosecution.
  13. Did other cultures, besides western Christian ones, have laws against murder?
  14. What moral position do you take that I don’t? Let’s discuss.
  15. Yes…. We used to have a lot of laws banning being gay, or banning certain sexual activities between consenting adults, or blasphemy laws that punished speech. I think it’s a good thing we turned our backs on the silly laws based on biblical morality. Are those the laws you want back on the books?
  16. Didn’t you just say in a previous post that God (the bible) isn’t a political document and that it doesn’t correct every immoral issue in the world? And that’s why He didn’t mention getting rid of slavery? Yet, in this post, you want laws that reflect God’s morality. So no more voting for women. Bring back gathering slaves from the heathens around us. Gay people can’t marry…. in fact, they can’t even live! Your biblical morality looks a lot like the Dark Ages.
  17. The bible also teaches where to get slaves and who you can enslave. People ate shrimp for thousands of years too. Are you saying God is too impotent to command people not to hold other humans as slaves, but can tell people not to eat shrimp. God’s priorities were messed up.
  18. I’m dismissive of ridiculous comments that equate values of the bible with Canadian values today. We’re way past biblical values, which are clearly sexist, homophobic and didn’t value free expression whatsoever. Of course Christians were the ones who were the ancestors of our traditions…. that’s kind of obvious. But these Christians were smart enough not to use the bible as a guide. Your comments on slavery are naive…. Some Christians used the bible to condemn slavery, however the bible actually condones slavery, and was used by other Christians to perpetuate the practice.
  19. You clearly don’t know much about rights, if you think they came from the bible.
  20. True. The officers showed great restraints against the occupiers.
  21. So, I can’t tell…. Are you for, or against the use of force against protestors? You seem to be flip-flopping depending on who is in power at the time and whether you like their politics….
  22. The USA cleared rioters in a much more forceful manner than happened in Canada. So, tell us again about these sanctions….
  23. Geography is not your strong suit, is it? You’re as confused as the “truckers” with their American flags shouting about their 1st amendment rights…. in downtown Ottawa! maps.Google.ca
  24. They allowed mass disruptions for weeks on end? ? Sure they did. Try parking some trucks in downtown USA, and see how long it lasts. It won’t take the authorities 2 weeks to clear them out.
  25. Which Canadian values/rights are biblical? Free expression? Nope. Religious freedom? Nope. Minority rights, like gay people, for instance? Nope. Equality of women? Nope. Voting rights? Nope. Which ones?
