Tariffs on Canadian Goods
Aristides replied to NAME REMOVED's topic in Canada / United States Relations
The MAGA base will never see it but hopefully it craters Trump's support from the rest of America. -
Some parties have more money than others going into an election and can advertise more. Supposedly the Conservatives have the most money right now so will it be fraud if they win the next election? The SCOTUS ruled that money equals speech and corporations are people in US election campaign financing.

The US gets about 80% of the aluminum it uses from Canada, they only produce 16% on their own and they also use a lot of our steel. What's that going to do to the auto, aviation and other industries in the US that use a lot of the stuff. Trump will end up shutting down the auto industry without even applying tariffs to vehicles.

Greenlanders may not want to be Danish but they want to be Americans even less. I doubt what Greenlanders want is even a consideration for Trump. Britain went to war because Falklanders didn't want to be Argentinians. Denmark is a NATO ally, the US wanting it for defence reasons is totally bogus, they have a treaty that allows the US to have bases in Greenland and they already have one at Thule.

We should be putting a 15% export tax on oil and gas to the US. The only reason Trump made it 10% is because he doesn't want gas prices to go higher. Put a tax on it and give the proceeds to the producing provinces to use as they see fit. -
To repeat, he [Putin] went to war to prevent NATO, more NATO, close to his borders. When Prof. John Mearsheimer, I, and others have said the same, we’ve been attacked as Putin apologists. The same critics also choose to hide or flatly ignore the dire warnings against NATO enlargement to Ukraine long articulated by many of America’s leading diplomats, including the great scholar-statesman George Kennan, and the former US Ambassadors to Russia Jack Matlock and William Burns. Burns, now CIA Director, was US Ambassador to Russia in 2008, and author of a memo entitled “Nyet means Nyet.” In that memo, Burns explained to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice that the entire Russian political class, not just Putin, was dead-set against NATO enlargement. We know about the memo only because it was leaked. Otherwise, we’d be in the dark about it. Why does Russia oppose NATO enlargement? For the simple reason that Russia does not accept the U.S. military on its 2,300 km border with Ukraine in the Black Sea region. Russia does not appreciate the U.S. placement of Aegis missiles in Poland and Romania after the U.S. unilaterally abandoned the Anti-Ballistic Missile (ABM) Treaty. ** Source: https://www.commondreams.org/opinion/nato-chief-admits-expansion-behind-russian-invasion The only reason the war in Ukraine continues is because to this day, most NATO members refuse to take Russia's security concerns seriously. Actually Europe is taking its own security concerns seriously. I fail to understand how attacking Ukraine, resulting in Europe making huge new investments in its military makes Russia more secure.

So far, Trump has been a godsend to the Liberals. Will that continue into an election? Stay tuned.

The stable genius's chaotic behaviour alone is tipping the economy into recession because no one knows what to expect, so they are cutting back on production, spending and investment. -
China has just imposed retaliatory tariffs on Canadian goods

Makes you wonder but if Trump makes good on screwing our auto industry there would be no point in keeping 100% tariffs on Chinese EV's. -

The dumb fvck wants to put a 250% tariff on all dairy even thought it only applies to some items over the amount negotiated in USMCA. We imported over $700M in dairy last year and exported less than $300M to the US so lets each of us apply a 250% tariff to all dairy and see who's farmers hurt the most. Our dairy farmers would just love the stupid SOB.
