Still Going to Buy the F-35, Really?
Aristides replied to Hoser360's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Seems like a logical idea, all a refueler has to do is fly in a straight line at a constant speed and altitude. Carrier landings would be its biggest challenge. -
It will be a tax grab eventually. BC's carbon tax used to be revenue neutral but now it just goes into general revenue. Too much money involved for governments to keep their hands off for long.

Still Going to Buy the F-35, Really?

It is OK regardless of who does it. Like Chretien with the EH 101, Trudeau cynically used the F-35 for political purposes. Unlike Chretien, he did the right thing in the end. I have no problem with him having to eat crow as it is well deserved but at least this has finally been settled. -

And yet 16 countries have gone with the F-35, including Sweden's closest neighbours, Norway, Finland and Denmark. The Gripen has had only two major purchases, Brazil and South Africa. -

You still have to be a player and we have alliances to maintain. You can't expect others to risk their necks to defend you if you aren't willing to defend yourself. -
Speaker of the House Debacle
Aristides replied to Boges's topic in State Politics in the United States
Because the Democrats no longer hold the House, they can't make legislation but the Senate and President can sure as hell stop it. A presidential veto requires a 2/3 majority to be overturned. The Republicans do not have a 2/3 majority. -
Speaker of the House Debacle
Aristides replied to Boges's topic in State Politics in the United States
Like I said, first priority is going after Biden. As far as legislation goes, Democrats still control the Senate and there is the presidential veto. -
I can grasp it but I don't just assume it. This does need to be looked into. The administration was trying to get as much stuff through before the Dems lost control of the House and the Jan, 6 Committee was trying to get its report released before a Rep House choked it off. It is not hard to imagine that short cuts were taken and this is a result.

And their solution to all of those is to go after the Bidens and keep refighting the election.
