  1. It has been proven wrong. We are finding out that these things are accelerating at a rate we didn't understand before. You latch on to decades old information and don't learn a damn thing after that.
  2. A smooth bore flintlock is an issue. Those old muskets couldn't fire more than three rounds a minute if the shooter was an expert and were accurate at less than 100 feet. So what if it has a high immigration rate, so do we. An American can legally by a hand gun or semi auto like an AR-15 then turn around and sell it to anyone no questions asked. Their laws are a joke. They kill more people with guns than they do with motor vehicles.
  3. When the Constitution was written the standard military weapon was a flint lock, smooth bore, muzzle loader. The jury is not out, just look at the firearms death rate and compare it to Canada or any other developed country.
  4. https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/european-court-human-rights-mh17-netherlands-russia-1.6725325 So much for the assertion that Ukrainians were shelling their own people in Donetsk.
  5. NASA has been measuring this with satellites for more than 30 years. 0.13 inches per year means 1.3 inches every ten years at the present rate, which is 30% faster than 20 years ago. If it keeps accelerating at that rate it in 20 years it will be .17 inches a year and in 200 years it will be increasing at a rate of almost 4 inches a year, but we know now that the rate of acceleration is not linear, it is increasing, If the rate is increasing at a rate of 1 inch every 10 years, that will mean 4 inches in the next 30 years and 5.2 inches in the next 30 years. In 200 years that would mean a total rise of 19 inches but we know the rate isn't linear. The recent study of glacial melt in Greenland found the undermining of the large glaciers by warm sea water is causing them to melt at a much faster rate than was thought.
  6. When you look at US gun control and compare it to other developed countries, it is obvious.
  7. Not presumptuous at all. It's obvious.
  8. 3600 Leopard 2's have been built, if every country that operates them sent 10% of their fleet that would make a nice little tank army.
  9. Looking out the window is not evidence, particularly in a tidal system. This what people who actually measure this stuff say. NASA
  10. The US has next to no real gun controls so R10 doesn't know WTF he is talking about. We already established that on another thread he started. His last words will be. Glug.

  12. Al Gore is not a scientist and we have learned a lot since 2001. One of the things we have learned it the earth is warming faster than we thought it would in 2001 and glacier melt rates are accelerating.
  13. One reason you can't use jet fuel in newer diesels is the sulphur content is too high and destroys the particulate filters and converters used for emission controls. It would depend on the quality of local diesel fuel.
  14. Apparently the Brits have never lost a Challenger to enemy fire. In Iraq, one survived hits by 14 RPG's, a Milan anti tank missile and was back in action 6 hours later even though it threw its tracks when it backed into a ditch. Another survived 70 RPG hits. As we have seen how effective suicide drones have been, top armour has all of a sudden become very important. I don't know how they rate.
  15. I have a real problem when professional organizations act outside of their mandate and try to dictate morality. I had the same issue with law societies when they refused to accredit TWU's law program because of its stance on LGBT students. The society's job is to evaluate programs on their merit, not enforce its own social position by punishing schools. As an agnostic who leans toward atheism I do not support TWU's position at all but the society's actions have nothing to do with the quality of law degrees the school offers. It seems very hypocritical to me that the court allows law societies to sanction TWU but still allows the University to discriminate against LGBT students. In both these situation we are seeing the cancel culture in action.
  16. Diesel is close to jet fuel so the Abrams may be able to use it. You can run older diesels on Jet A1. The Abrams is more difficult to maintain, Ease of maintenance is a reason the Leopard is so popular, a Leopard engine can be replaced in 30 minutes with the proper equipment.
  17. Men and women compete equally in equestrian sports (other than rodeo). There may be others.
  18. Bill Mahr explains George Santos. (And modern politics)
  19. Most of it will be under water in 50 years anyway.
  20. I guess we would need to know what those statements were and where she said them.
  21. This has nothing to do with professional behaviour. Unless they can show that she brings it to work and it affects the way she does her job, they should stay out of it. I'm getting more and more worried about professional organizations that are setting themselves up as arbiters of social issues. It is a really disturbing trend. It is not their mandate to tell people what to think about things that have nothing to do with providing health care, let alone penalize them for it. Her opinions on who should be allowed to use women's washrooms is no more their concern than it is to this man.
  22. I disagree, it has nothing to do with how she does her job, nor does it have anything to do with the practice of medicine. The college should butt out, they aren't a morality police.
  23. Window dressing. Your laws are pathetic. Federal background checks reject 2% of applicants. The federal data base depends on states and the military supplying the data and it is very spotty. Less than a third of state warrants are on the federal data base. If the feds don't answer a background check within 3 days, the gun can be sold anyway. Unless the data base flags a buyer nothing happens. No real check is done, it can't be in 3 days. In Canada, you have to take a course and pass a test before you can even apply to get a possession permit (PAL) and you need one to own any firearm. It takes and average of 45 days to be approved while they do a real check of your history. To get a possession permit for a restricted weapon (handgun etc) is more difficult and takes longer. You cannot get a permit to carry one. All restricted weapons are registered and you cannot sell any firearm to a person that doesn't have a valid PAL. At any time, the police can come to your door and ask you to account for any weapons that you have bought and should be in your possession. If you sold a firearm you better have a bill of sale and the person you sold it to better have a valid PAL. I think that is very rare unless a gun has been used in a crime but it is always a possibility. Your firearms laws are largely window dressing. https://www.thetrace.org/2015/07/gun-background-check-nics-guide/
