Here are seat projections based on the Strategic Counsel poll released today. CPC 147 seats LPC 72 BQ 67 NDP 21 Very good for the CPC. A nice solid minority, no scarying anybody with a majority. That would be delicious if a few more seats shifted and Martin wasn`t even Leader of the Official Opposition.

Harper's Missile Mindlessness Would Waste Billions
shoop replied to River_God's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
No he didn`t. My evidence the CPC Web site. Any proof of this *wanted to start building silos* theory? -
That`s the beauty of using terms like *ultra right rhetoric*. Undefinable, so basically tough to dispute. By shifting the ground of the debate you are veering off into irrelevance. A plurality of Canadians do not think of Harper as *scary* *scary* *scary*. That has proven to be a losing strategy so far. Try something else or get ready for Paul Martin Official Leader of the Opposition.

Should Harper begin fighting Dirty?
shoop replied to SamStranger's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The public definitely won`t want another election soon. It is still a big *IF* about Paul Martin leaving early. If he is man enough to see the writing on the wall and leave early than there will be a new leader by the fall. However *the board* probably won`t see things that way. Which means a long protracted Liberal party civil war. Giving the Conservatives that much more time to govern. It is conventional wisdom that the PQ will win the next election, but I think Boisclair is seriously flawed and will face a really tough ride in that election. The way he handled the cocaine issue in the leadership campaign, i.e. flipping out on the journalists, will not fly in an election campaign. -
Harper and Richard Perle (aka Darth Vader) are soulmates

Good post tml. I have a feeling I agree with you on many other things. A Conservative minority government will be the best thing that could happen to the CPC. Martin will stick around in a pathetic attempt to cling to power. The Liberals will openly engage in civil war, which only helps Conservatives. A Conservative minority will let people see *scary* *scary* *scary* for the falsehood that it is and lead the way to a Conservative majority in 2008. -

Really err this isn`t like you. Flat out lying about a reason to object to a policy decision. The deal that was on the table when Martin walked away is as follows. No money from Canada, no weapons stationed anywhere in Canada. So just because you *remember* it falsely doesn`t make for any sort of a reason. -
Should Harper begin fighting Dirty?

Very good post. Angryman especially. Harper needs to come across as the soon-to-be Prime Minister that he is. I thought Martin jumping on Duceppe was a pretty lame attempt at scoring that *knockout punch*. Slight spike in the polls but nothing lasting. Harper can just do what he did last time and he will be fine. No need for histrionics or theatre. They don`t fit his personality so would hurt him rather than help him. -

Yaaaaawn. Troll. Buh bye. -
Four points. 1. I love people who refere to *the masses* implying they are members of some intellectual elite. 2. Any support for your assertion that *TV is the medium (singular tsk tsk) of choice for conservatives*? 3. Go down to your local NDP candidate`s campaign office. Like-minded souls and probably some free food/drink for you to ingest while watching the final nail in Martin`s coffin. 4. Billions of dollars on lawn signs???? Do you know how much a billion dollars actually is? It is a thousand million dollars. There will not be that much money spent on lawn signs by ALL candidates in this campaign.

There will be a little more give and take, but you are probably right. Good for the Conservatives at this point. Martin should try and go for broke, but how? -

RG That is the *third* time you have posted those four examples on *three* different threads. If you really want to clean up the board quit triple-posting. Please quit using all the colours. -
Should Harper begin fighting Dirty?

I honestly don`t think Layton will go after Harper. I am saying this because of what Ed Broadbent said yesterday on Question Period. Broadbent was putting forth a positive message that the NDP is still relevant in this campaign. I don`t see why the NDP would change their playbook in a day`s time. That is shrewd of them. At this point they need to go after the Liberals. The CPC will be government, so the more seats they can win in parliament the more effective they will be. If the NDP attacks the CPC it will only help the Liberals, not the NDP. -

Since RG cut and pasted his reply into two threads, I`ll do the same. Actually it was a very fair question. They probably weren`t actually holding hands. So why would you say that they were? Why are you avoiding this question? pot-kettle kettle-pot QUOTE(River_God @ Jan 9 2006, 12:12 PM) Can you provide a link with a picture of these guys holding hands??? That would make a wonderful addition to my collection of "Strange Bedfellows" pictures. I can put it right beside Sonny and Cher (by PocketRocket) A moderately funny attempt at diverting the question, without making any attempt to either answer or even acknowledge the issue. -
Stephen Harper Wants to break up Canada
shoop replied to River_God's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Maybe a better question is whether Liberals actually believe they are the only ones who love Canada or are so clueless as to think this might be a winning strategy. Ahhhh, so beautiful to see the Lbierals in the midst of an agonizing defeat. -
The last two weeks of the campaign

Shakey, Never called it a conspiracy, nor would I associate the Tor Sun with the left, but take a look at my argument. Those headlines were grossly inaccurate compared to what Harper actually said. -
Gotta love the arrogance. If only the great eureka had been allowed to speak the unwashed masses could be properly educated.

The last two weeks of the campaign

I think you are right. The headlines in the Toronto Star and Sun were bad news at first glance. Toronto Star today Toronto Sun todayHowever, the stories are more balanced. The Globe, CBC and CTV sites haven't given the story much prominence. Probably the two Toronto papers trying to outdo each other and both look bad as a result. The debates will be critical. My vibe is Layton isn't going to go for the Harper jugular, seems like he understands how that would just send voters to the Liberals. -

Kinsella isn't working for him because of Martinite spitefulness. Nothing to do with money. -
From the sounds of things the issue pretty much has died. The moderator for the debate tomorrow night said they were going to be asking *new/different* questions tomorrow night. Which sounded like they wouldn't ask about SSM again. Your analysis is dead on. They have to let the anti-SSM types have their day. It will fail. The issue will have no effect on the rest of the campaign.
