Couple that analysis with the Liberals getting arrogant and snarky with the media when they *dared* to ask them hard questions. This has lead to the big loss in support for the Liberals.
-
thanks tml They are desperate and grabbing at straws. Nothing they have done since New Year appears to be helping them. Maybe Kinsella is right and all they are doing is trying to save the few seats they have left...
-
As long as they aren't voting Liberal.

I hear you, but there is no way the Liberals planned for Hargrove to make this statement *and* for Martin to refute it. That is far too conspiracy theory for me and complex. Remember Ockham's Razor. "Given two equally predictive outcomes, choose the simpler." It is far likelier that the Buzz just shot off his mouth on this one... ps. With the way this campaign has been run are you really calling Martin a smart politician?
-
To repeat, do you have an actual example to point to? Or is your word enough?

Why we must prevent Harper from becoming PM
shoop replied to emailforcanada's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Martin has been a terrible PM and run an equally terrible campaign this time around. He is being booted to the sidelines, as he deserves to be. People like the OP are just sad YL hacks holding on for dear life. Attack, attack, attack. That is why they are losing this campaign. -
I think you are giving the Liberals too much credit. I think they are sooooo disorganized and in such disarray that they are giving Buzz a prominent role and they really shouldn't be. Desperate. Desperate. Desperate.

That is why I don't understand what eureka said. Is it misplaced Liberal arrogance or faux intellectual arrogance that forces him to make such pronouncements?

Wow. You really don't get it. Martin is toast and his only legacy as leader of the Liberals will be competing with John Turner as worst leader in the last hundred years. -
Yet again, too intelligent for me eureka. Care to explain how a Conservative government will end regions and the national government?
-
Huge is painfully off track. Watch CBC and Newsworld. You would be very hard-pressed to see anything but their typical Liberal rah rahing. However, as a news organization they have to report the serious drop in support the Liberals are experiencing. Given how HUGE this bias is it shouldn't be hard for you to find an example to post. Should it?

Canadian politics from a Star Wars point of view
shoop replied to lonewolf's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Hey, I don't think anyone is upset necessarily. Just taken aback by how different your post was from most things we see here. Your post was definitely *unique*. For a number of reasons I think that the next election probably won't come for a long time. I do believe the momentum will keep moving the Conservative's way to give them a majority in these final days. Even if they don't get that many seats things like: Liberal leadership intrigues, the public outrage the would follow a third election in short order and Harper's desire to actually make a new parliament work, will lead to an election no earlier than fall of 2008. -
The complaint is that the CBC is the only broadcaster that receives taxpayer funding. They should be neutral. Here is a great quote from Warren Kinsella about the CBC.

Canadian politics from a Star Wars point of view

uhhh right, ok then -
He is admitting that people have some concerns about him. Why is honesty not shrewd?

I really think Layton's talk of conditions to support the Conservatives isn't really helpful to the NDP. The Canadian electorate's nostalgic fondness for minority governments eroded pretty quickly over the past 18 months or so. Layton pointing to another parliament of dealing and paralysis only makes more people yearn for a majority government. The vast majority of Canadians want a majority government, they just can't decide if they are willing to trust Harper with it. The Liberals clearly cannot form one this go around. That was the rationale behind Harper's discussion today about the constraints a Conservative majority would face via the Senate, the upper echelons of the civil service and the Supreme Court. Very shrewd analysis in that war room. Very room.
-
Stan, On the face of it that is a dream scenario. However, a win that big would have the potential for downside. A much smaller Conservative majority would be that much better. A massive win could lead to the massive hubris of the PC government after 1984. Still possible under the scenario Fisher laid out. 170 seats for the CPC would be very nice, very nice indeed.

Just saw it on the Liberal Web site. Hmmmm, not terrible ... I guess. Don't really know how many votes it will swing this late in the game. Maybe Kinsella is right and it is an ad helped to protect the few ridings the Liberals have left.

Where comes this talk of Tory Majorities?
shoop replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
To paraphrase? Come on. A fairer paraphrasing might be: "Even if you are inclined to buy into the Liberal scary-scary-scary taunts we won't have the power to rob the purse ala the Liberals due to the Liberal-dominated Senate, the Liberal-dominated upper echelons of the civil service and the Liberal-dominated supreme court." Close though... -

Uhhh, no it didn't. The headline was. "Tories two ridings short of a majority: survey" Regardless, the Conservatvies are looking very strong now. People seem to be looking forward (or resigned) to a Conservative government. The last week of the campaign will decide if it is a majority or a minority. I found the democraticspace site a little confusing. If you surf around you can find conflicting information. -

The EPP predictions are a little off on this point. The Liberals are not guaranteed 77 seats, with another 66 ridings too close to call, while they are sitting at high 20s support level. They appear to not really care too much about applying polling figures until the dying days of the campaign. -
There has been no mention of a backlash anywhere in the media as a result of these ads. A targeted ad at this point is necessary in these days given the number of tight, tight races in BC. Canadians only react negatively to attack ads when they aren't based in fact and/or are unfairly personal. These ads deal with NDP policies that don't appeal to the persuadables that are now choosing between the NDP and the Conservatives.

Wasn't the NDPs minimum condition for supporting the Liberal minority government *originally* a guarantee of electoral reform?
-
No way Martin does that. It would be completely unprecedented. Are you sure Martin could do that with receiving the approval of parliament?
