  1. The reality clearly show Canadians are bullying themselves. They're only trying to blame their predicament on us to "feel good".
  2. Uh you can blame China for that. Like I've said, Canada should of stayed out of our trade dispute with China. For once, get it in your head that it wasn't about Canada. Those steel and aluminium were design to target dumping practices used by China. We placed tariffs on everybody except Australia and a few south american countries that doesn't do dumping. Or they could just drive across the border and buy stuff at a much cheaper price...oh wait Canadians have been doing that already! Those self imposed tariff are only going to encourage more purchases in the US, further weakening the Canadian economy....word of advice, Canada can't win a trade war with the US so don't try you're only going to hurt your self more.
  3. Like what, Canadians prefer hockey over football? From my travels I got the impression that people in Toronto are much like those in NY or any big city, people in Vancouver are like people in California and those in Alberta, have similarities to those in the south, specifically Texas. There isn't a valid argument as to why Canadians should considered themselves Canadians, you're all just Americans with some sort of self inflicted allergy of hating America. The reason steel and aluminum tariff got place on Canada was due to steel over production in china and dumping tactics they used to get their products to the US by relabeling Chinese steel as Canadian steel. But as usual Canada over reacted and placed ridiculous retaliatory tariff on things not even related to our trade dispute with china. Canada should have just stayed out of it. Look at this list of silly tariff Canada placed on itself. You're only making life more difficult for everyday Canadians, the list of goods Canada is trying to implement isn't even going to put a dent in the US's economy so why do it in the first place, other than a feel good measure. This only hurt Canada more and un-necessarily brought Canada into a global trade dispute it very well could and should of stayed out of. " Strawberry jam remains on the list of 79 items other than steel and aluminum set to be hit with a 10 per cent tariff starting July 1. The original list, worth a total of $16.6 billion, targeted everything from whiskey, washing machines, steel and aluminum to orange juice, frozen pizza, beer, manicure products, boats, ketchup, coffee, nut butters and jams. Apart from the exempted items, the rest of the list and its value remain the same, Freeland said, and the government is prepared to keep the tariffs in place until U.S. President Donald Trump removes the tariffs of 25 per cent and 10 per cent he placed on Canadian steel and aluminum last month. Items that remain on the list to be hit with tariffs include yogurt, coffee, licorice, chocolate, prepared meals including pizza and quiche, cucumbers, gherkins, soya sauce, ketchup, mayonnaise, flavoured water, whiskies, manicure and pedicure products, shaving products, dish detergent, candles, glue and various types of herbicides, insecticides and fungicides. Also set to be hit with tariffs are plastic bags, toilet paper, serviettes, postcards, cast iron grills, combined fridge-freezers, water heaters, dish washers, household washers and dryers, lawnmowers, inflatable and sailboats, motorboats without outboard motors, wood-framed household furniture, mattresses, sleeping bags, pillows and bedding, playing cards and both ballpoint and felt-tipped pens. 4. A great article that give readers a glimpse of our intelligence community. It discuss many aspect of how spies are treated and cared for once they have been exfiltrated to the US away from their home countries. "Defectors present a myriad of psychological and logistical challenges for CIA handlers as they navigate the complex reality of life-long resettlement. Some defectors maintain an "unnaturally strong belief of their own invulnerability" that can manifest itself years into the program -- a trait that often makes them targets of coercion and can have potentially fatal consequences, according to Augustyn. Other individuals cannot reconcile themselves to the fact that they are no longer the person they used to be, he added. "Anyone who betrays their country, for whatever reason, is different," Augustyn told CNN, adding that these individuals often have strong egos and are motivated by personal reasons like greed or a desire for revenge rather than political ideology or a desire to make the world a better place. And while the CIA provides defectors with new identities and professions, the jobs given are often a dramatic step-down from the high-level military, political or intelligence professions that made them attractive recruitment targets in the first place." "Not every spy qualifies for exfiltration, but the US will work to rescue high-ranking military officials, intelligence officers, academics, scientists and other workers with access to sensitive information who are at imminent risk of being caught or captured." "But while the CIA has successfully resettled hundreds of former spies over a span of several decades, many cases have ended in tragedy." "Kuklinski lived peacefully in Florida for many years after leaving Poland and was celebrated as a hero within the US intelligence community for dramatically improving their understanding of Soviet weaponry in the 70s and 80s. However, his two sons mysteriously died within six months of each other in 1994 -- one lost at sea off the coast of Florida and the second hit by a car, which burned up and left behind no evidence of the perpetrator. The mystery remains unsolved, though many have pointed the finger at angry KGB agents seeking retribution." https://www.cnn.com/2018/08/03/politics/cia-spies-secret-defector-program/index.html This gave me a thought, do the CIA hire Canadian spies to spy on Canada?
  5. As if you should consider Canada another country economically...it's just another state that should be absorbed by the US. I am anti globalist in many aspect but not between Canada and the US, not when two country share that level of similarity. My views is that Canada should be annexed and brought under occupation i uh mean management by America; manifest destiny at its finest. There really isn't a valid argument as to why Canadians should considered themselves non-american culturally asides from Quebec that is... My beef(ag pun intended) with globalism stem from the fact that most countries do not share social/cultural similarities and hence political similarity. But if you were able to achieve economic AND political globalism then I'm all for it. You should not integrate a global economy with national political systems, it only encourages protectionism as evident by your comments and also other countries willingness to cheat, this is the main reason why globalism failed to deliver the promised good.
  6. LMAFO. The thing you have to realize is that Canadians are just Americans with anti-american fetish. You follow our news, you watch our tv shows and movies, you sound, talk, act, look like us etc....But for some reason decided that a hallmark Canadian trait is to hate on America. Something BC has been pointing out for 10 years on this forum. If it makes you feel better , the brits, ozzy and kiwis are doing the same thing, it's hilarious.
  7. Ah you say that but when I used to live in a communist country that did land reform i saw the same issue in reverse. They took land from productive rich land owners and gave it all to the poor masses. What happened was the worse starvation that happened in the country's history. So taking from the rich and giving to the poor just doesn't work. What trump is doing is actually helping the poor. He's making it so that companies have to hire more american workers. Once the labor supply diminish, the rich are forced to pay workers more cutting out of their own pocket voluntarily instead of government mandated tax that hurt profitable companies and wealthy individual and see production move oversea or hiring of cheaper international laborer as we've seen in the previous two administration. This tax-cut and whole of government approach allow the system to have a floating feedback mechanism instead of a bracket tax system that has no feedback to market condition. The way trump is doing it is much more tactful something you critics failed to recognize. Also this way, it forces companies and talented individual to reduce labor requirements through innovation in order to fill out their own pocket not having to pay more for labor , increasing productivity, America's competitive edge. True trickle down economic.
  8. Its not about partisanship, its about economic policies. Those are differing views between Stiglitz and Kudlow.
  9. Credentials are necessary in many fields but economics is not one of them. It's literally add and subtract. Also economic modeling are only as accurate as weather prediction. Growth is the quintessential goal of all economies. It fixes many of the issue that you were referring to. But don't take my word for it. Do your own research. Here's another economist counter view to Stiglitz's perspective.
  10. You sound like a disgruntled canadian . You have no idea how amusing this is...you're feeding my inner troll. I think the heart of the problem with Canada as far as trade is concern is the protectionist policy it adopted for their agricultural industries, supply management etc... The same is true with France. The US should dominate the agriculture industries because we have more land and better capital investment for such business. France and Canada should focus on diversifying to other industries instead of agriculture.
  11. Uh they can easily bypass tariff if they built plants here like what toyota did... but no... also bmw and mercedes have plants here but they are not focused on pickup trucks. Again, they're just not interested in building them because their main client in Europe don't really use pickup trucks. I'd love to own a bmw pickup but here's the thing pickup are not really true luxury vehicle they're mainly utility vehicle.
  12. Actually I don't think most countries want to make pickup truck for us. Toyota makes them here and they are popular.
  13. I don't know why you are obsessed with bringing up an economist's credential, if you study economics at all you would know that they are like the weather man. Stiglitz's perspective on macro economic trends are only half right. He's not accounting for the benefit of deregulation and tax policies that encourages growth. The ideologue liberals and progressive made it their goal to wage war on success when they decided that more regulation and higher taxes would benefit us. That's when you saw a movement of companies overseas and capital being held there. Companies and monies are pouring back in because of a growth oriented tax policy where you can get immediate tax cut for capital investment. Deregulation that stymied growth is a thing of the past. Short term investment in our economic engine is exactly what we need. You are already seeing an increase in wages and as evident lowest welfare application in history. These are true signs of economic growth. No self respecting economist would dismiss the fact that growth solves a lot of problem. Something Stiglitz's article failed to emphasize.
  14. All i got from that article is that trump started a trade war to boost his ego. That's as much fake news as it gets. China certainly has some tools to fight back at the US but again those methods are just as destructive as tariffs. Doubt they will use it. Also if they devalue their currency too much to the tune of 200 billion dollar or 25 percent they will see a flight of their currency toward inflation. Also, we didnt start this trade war, china did. We were at war for 25 years. China will lose unless they reform. You will see a collapse of their industrial base overnight if tariff hold. Companies are already leaving china for other less tariffed countries. Look even the Chinese government's ministry of propaganda news admit it...https://www.scmp.com/business/china-business/article/2067470/why-foreign-companies-are-shutting-shop-china
  15. I think the reverse is true, I see a lot of contempt for trump and his supporters. What people out there need to understand is that what America is doing is actually helping others. They don't understand that in order to fix a broken trading system there will be short term pain, they don't understand that to save nato we need an alliance of partners not a protectorate where the US foot the bill of blood and treasure. These are real issue that plagued previous administration and as evident by the backlash why only trump can save us. Trump is not a politician, he is doing what he think is best for America. America is well aware of china's attempted overthrow. We will compete against China where we must, we are doing so vigorously. We are signing up more partners in the indo pacific, you western democracy need to wake up and stop asking the US for handout. The US need you all to drop your protectionist trade barriers and start paying more for your own defense. That is if the free world wants to save it self. If we fall it won't be because of America, it will because of all you hypocrite who love freedom but isn't willing to pay for it and defend it.
  16. We know we just don't care frankly. We american think that the rest of the world can learn a great deal from us not necessarily the other way around. Outside of western democracy the rest of the world is a "shit-hole". This is coming from someone who has done a lot of traveling and living in these third world countries for several years. The things we moan and argue about here is nothing in comparison of what goes on in the daily struggle of a average person in a third world country. This is only temporary and not sustainable with current trade disputes.
  17. Lols this again, actually if you think about it Obama's crowd were typical liberal city dwelling northerners from NY, Washington and nearby areas. Most of trump's base is in the midwest. I don't think you should give those pictures too much credit.
  18. I don't think this will be case actually. Pretty sure China will not be able to replace America as the next hedgemon. My prediction is that having a huge population will become a liability in the future economy with automation and ai.
  19. I know right, no wonder our new sheriff is cracking down hard on Canada, the land of counterfeit and other criminal activities...
  20. In other related new, we are going to see more tran-shipping of goods through various countries before entering the US, this is an attempt to dodge tariff. Hilariously i found this out as some of my normal goods usually shipped from california all of a sudden started shipping from vancouver... https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/22/business/china-trade-tariffs-transshipment.html
  21. I disagree, he is considering another 200 b on tariff. The eu president agreed he wants to help re write the wto... seems like trump is doing pretty good. The only people butthurt are liberal globalist who seemed fine with the status quo. China will be brought to its knees one way or another. Same goes for whoever else wants to get in our way cough* canada cough*
  22. I'm sure China is doing all that for the the goodness of their hearts and the betterment of mankind. Lending billions of dollars on suspicious infrastructure project that give no long term benefit to the locals while allowing a strategic corridor to move China's troops and information. I'm sure China was being too kind and the Danes and Ozzy had to politely stop them. Like the attempted purchase of Greenland's naval port and Australia's undersea communication line to the Solomon. Or the Brit's nuclear power plant... Not really, but we are helping gullible sheep like Canada and the EU. You may not understand it now but you'll thank us eventually. Don't worry, you can read about it 30 years from now in a history book; about how America saved the world from it self(yet again...) and china. Saving the world is America's job, stand aside and watch Canada.
  23. And trade with who? Cuba? Mexico and the EU are definitely not going to do more trade with Canada than the US, as it stands they're trying to trade with America. But Im sure Cuba can be a great substitute for the world's only super power.
  24. Oh sure yeah, you should thank China actually, they're the main reason we are unilaterally changing the world trading system.
