US could defeat Iran militarily, but not occupy it long term in the same manner, its too big, too hilly, too far away, too hard to peentrate and Russia wouldn't allow it.

Sh*tholes are created by western society - A history of Haiti
H10 replied to ?Impact's topic in The Rest of the World
This is merely anti-Mugabe British propaganda, as the British had hailed Mugabe and his policies after he overthrew their bitter enemy Ian Smith. The British knighted Mugabe and hailed him as a hero in the 1990s and 1980s. Zimbabwe however had relied on UN food aid to avert mass starvation as recently as the 1970s and 1960s. Much worse, while Zimbabwe under apartheid dictatorship was exporting maize, they had also been relying on food aid from the UN. The claim is also highly questionable as well because the population was much smaller in the 1800s and on top of that global warming had not yet set in drying out the region. Zimbabwe along with its neoghbours has been experiencing decades long droughts and water shortages and even the white run Cape Town in South Africa is anticipated to run out of water in 30 days. Part of this stems from destructive practices of European white farmers who had removed retaining walls and permitted the best soil to wash into the sea, reducing agricultural outputs. What is even more laughable, is that the paper claims Zimbabwe was a bread basket, but cannot produce a single image of wheat being farmed in Zimbabwe, yet rather, they show a tobacco field (which is not even edible unless you like vomiting). This is because tobacco being a cash crop has always been and continues to be favoured over wheat to grow by farmers for its higher price and less water requirements. Even look at the images, the africans are in rags and tatters, and the whites are in expensive suits This looks very much like slavery to be honest This is colonialism, whites get suits, ties, hippos and big industrial buildings, the blacks build all of it, and get to live in a mud hut No wonder Mugabe did what he did, he was right. -
Sh*tholes are created by western society - A history of Haiti

Yes it is due to Europe colonizing, robbing and oppressing Africa. Prior to colonialism, Mali was one of the richest countries on earth, with the most educated populous and the largest and best universities. Then the Europeans and Arabs invaded, robbed and looted the place enslaved the academics and merchants and stole their inventions for their own. -

The comment is not fair. South Korea was a receipent of generous targetted aid and trade contracts as part of a broader plan called the point 4 program to develop east asian nations as a counter to a rising communist china. That is, USA and white monopoly capital sought to strengthen South Korea. With Haiti, white monopoly capital has actively worked to sabotage the nation into today. Haiti was invaded and looted by the USA, LITERALLY, US soldiers on the streets of Haiti looting the wealth of locals and they had to "reparations" to France on top of that with threat of further invasions. Who would invest in a nation where it is constantly under threat of French and US invasion? Compare that to South Korea with 50,000 US soldiers protecting it. Haiti's problems are not its own, they are created and manufactured by foreign nations bitter about it declaring independence and winning a military victory. Mainly USA, France and Britain. -
The Trump Tax Cut/Reform of 2017
H10 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
So you think car insurance isn't worth buying?Housing insurance? If you didn't buy in you were taxed, so everyone had to buy in. If you earned too little obviously you didn't pay in much because you had no earnings. It was a tax, it did provide health insurance, and it covered millions of people who had no previous car. Trump's bill doesn't eliminate Obamacare, just removes the individual mandate. It will obviously spiral up cost for those who still want healthcare. Not dead, but severely weakened. No, it is not overblown. You have a party who whined and complained about large deficits for a decade to now pass a bill that will increase the deficit more so than any other president ever. The rich will pay far less tax, 50% of the middle class and poor will see a temporary tax cut, followed by a tax increase in a few years, and the other 50% will see an immediate tax increase. this just cuts taxes for corporations and the wealth and shifts it onto the poor and middle class. You are not the 5% if you are a NYC garbage man earning 80k a year, paying 30k in taxes. -

The reasons all dealt with slavery. Transportation of goods. What goods =slaves and goods the slaves made. transportation by who, doing what, for what reason and cause. The south wanted to transport slaves through free states and territories and they wanted slaves to remain slaves even in states that abolished slavery! When did the south not control the cotton trade? The south wanted to force northern states into taking slavery goods and slavery money. They also wanted to do so without paying taxes to support the infrastructure. Who was trading cotton, who was picking the cotton. These are all slavery based issues. The south never believed in separation. They believed in dominating the free states and bow battering them into accepting slavery. Once a president with a backbone came along and said enough, they seceded. The only American Indian issues that came up with with black Indian fighting the seceding states and refusing to bow to slave power, mainly in Florida with the whole seminole wars thing. And that was entirely about slavery.
-
O yes, I also remember that the history book they gave us said that Britain and Canada had secretly supported the confederacy, but were scared the north would declare war on them if it was too blantant. In fact with the entire Trent Affair, Lincoln almost declared war on Canada and thousands of British Soldiers were moved into Canada in anticipation of the war.
-
The civil war was not covered extensively in Canadian history class in elementary and high school. However what was covered was that the south wanted slavery, the north wanted to end its practice, the south refused to end it and seceded on the election of Lincoln, Lincoln tried to appease the south, but they refused at this point believing it was a trick and war broke out. That is how I remember them teaching but I could go scan the text book again, it was not very indepth, probably 1 or 2 paragraphs. The civil war was factually about slavery. The south wanted it to continue, the north wanted it to end. It is true there were other issues involved like "tariffs", "State's rights", etc. But these were all based in or rooted in slavery. For instance, the tariffs being fought over were tariffs in goods that were almost exclusively being harvested, produced, manufactured and moved by slaves. The state's rights, all dealt with the rights of whites to mistreat and abuse slaves or free african americans. The south did not secede because they wanted the right to smoke indoors and northerners wouldn't let them. The Southern states had felt their slave power was wanning after having a series of weak presidents who bent to give the slave states whatever they wanted followed by the election of a anti-slavery president, slavery was a growingly unpopular institution among white people who were often on the brunt end of violent slave revolts, many white immigrants had their entire industry undercut by slave power and many white industrialist as well. Further, Southern whites were neglecting education of poor whites in favor of expanding slavery. Additionally the slave states had attempted to expand slavery in the mid 1800s into free states and into new Western territories and states. Not only did the Southern states oppose state's rights, they had actively pursued and pressured and lobbied the federal government to pass federal laws, like the fugitive slave acts, to permit southerners to chase runaway slaves into free states and re-enslave them. In fact the Dredd Scott case highlighted this. Southerners opposed states rights and sued in court to have the federal government overlook the rights of states who had abolished slavery.

Theyare not rinos, they are just establishment republicans. Moore is not a Trump supporter, Trump endorsed his political opponent and has egg on his face, Moore has outfoxed Trump and is much smarter than Trump. The establishment Republicans do not want to have a strong Christian Conservative who isn't under the thumb and nail of the establishment republicans. I don't know if the women are lying or not, but I think the voters have the right to decide, as long as they know this could be potentially true, it is good enough. They know he could be a rapist, and if they elect him knowing it, then it is his right to serve. -

It is quiet obvious that we are talking about a state and region, where there exist a culture of men sleeping with children and people marrying their cousins and relatives. Truth hurts, Alabama's dominant culture is one of regressive, animal like behavior. While people in the civilized world look at Moore as a pedophile, the average white Alabamian, looks at Moore as their uncle, their brother, their father or themselves. How many 60 year old white guys in Alabama have done what Moore did (or worse) and are thinking this provides me protection. Most Alabamaians strongly prefer a conservative child rapist to any democrat. -

Why Israel does not want a sovereign Palestinian state
H10 replied to Hudson Jones's topic in The Rest of the World
The answer is obvious. 1. If Palestine because a soverign state, they gain the right to all kinds of rockets, guns, full auto weapons and anti aircraft weapons that would turn the tide of war 2. If Palestine becomes a state, Israel's stealing of territory becomes a violation of international law requiring invasion and un deployment of troops 3. Israel can't steal Palestine's land anymore, and Israel is overpopulated. 4. It is all moot, Palestinians have far more kids than Israelis, Israel will take over all of Palestine, and Israel will become an arab state again or formal apartheid system- 153 replies

Bernie Sanders - Hero to Fools
H10 replied to Cum Laude's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Which is why the dems lost the 2016 election to Trump. Even Trump admitted it. "Donald Trump has thanked African-Americans for not voting in the US presidential election. The President-elect told a rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan, that black voters who stayed at home on Election Day were “almost as good” as those who voted for him.... And frankly if they had any doubt, they didn’t vote, and that was almost as good because a lot of people didn’t show up, because they felt good about me.” The African American community is tired of democratic lies to the point they are ready to stay home again and let Trump have a 2nd term to punish them (democrats) for not coming through despite being the most loyal voting block the democrats have. All these swing states like Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin, Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia, really just become Republican states once you remove the African American vote or reduce it. Everyone knows it, and its why the Republicans have been trying to do backflips to find clever ways to eliminate their vote (ie mass incarceration and voter disenfranchisement rules and gerrymandering), the democrats have really just caught on that this can cause them to actually lose elections in democratic states. They are fine with another Trump term, they will turnout in large numbers on local and state elections because they are realizing the national democratic party is either useless in helping them or unwilling, which is why not voting for them is a valid political strategy. Why vote for aparty who doesn't represent your interest, better to focus on local politics. Further, many African Americans are unhappy with the fact that American Indians groups get reparations yearly from the federal government who disregards and ignores the Freedman Indian Treaty for them and their 14th amendment rights, that the Japanese, Chinese and Jews got reparations (jews as recently under Obama's term). But here you have a radical socialist who is telling you how he marched with Dr. King and believes in his ideals while opposing the reparations stance which Dr. King was murdered for while going on the poor people's campaign. He is going to push through all his radical plans against rich people who he claims control the entire country but reparations are "unfeasible". Trump will win a 2nd term if Sanders doesn't pull through on this issue. Also Sanders will win the nomination because he has been going around campaigning for and with local democrats all over the place. It would be virtually impossible for a new challenger to beat Sanders at this point, because they'd lack the name recoginition and the democratic party hasn't changed the rules from tilting towards the incumbent (who they thought would be Clinton). The only possible way he loses is if he gets sick, dies, or if Clinton who has rigged the democratic party with her loyalist runs against him. And she barely won the last time too, and no one knew who Sanders was. Democrats cannot win by running against Trump, any more than Republican could win by running against Bill Clinton, both men were morally depraved, liars, racist and sexist but it was not enough to point out their shortcomings to beat them. Democrats can only win by standing for something, not against someone. -
Liberals to increase immigration to 350,000+
H10 replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Because the winners tend to be conservative, they don't want to change anything because it might not work. And you are erroneously assuming that moving to Canada will provide a better quality of life for them and their family. Do you understand that the elite in most countries live better off than the elite in Canada? Our standard of living is not better, our education is lower, our healthcare is lower than most developing countries for the ELITE. The elite in other countries have private education, private healthcare, gated communities, private security, probably even more freedom than people here, Yeah but the immigrants are usually the losers, they aren't the elite, they aren't the wealthy, they are the people not making it there. It wasn't a bunch of royals and elites coming in from England, Ireland and France, it was those who couldn't cut it there. -

Bernie Sanders - Hero to Fools
H10 replied to Cum Laude's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Trump puts his foot in his mouth literally every time he talks, Sanders for the most part is usually pretty good. While it is a fact that Trump is obviously xenophobic, islamophobic(muslim ban+ double standard in white terrorist attacks = "mentally ill" vs muslims = terrorist), racist (mexicans bringing rape, crime and drugs, and settling case for discrimination against african american renters and comments on central park 5 and comments about not wanting african american accountants) and sexist (grab them right in the p comment and numerous sexual assault cases) . I have not seen evidence of his homophobia to be fair. Bernie talking about racism would be no surprise given that he had lost the African American vote for his refusal to embrace African American issues as did Hilary Clinton. It is no secret that African Americans choosing to stay had caused the democrats to lose the election in 2018 and Bernie to lose the nomination. I believe the democratic party is facing a real fork in the road. They are going to have to decide if they will do something for their African American voting base who they have promised for years to help while doing nothing to help and often hindering them. Or if they will become the Republican light party. This is the real bind for the democrats. Despite all their finger pointing at "Racist" Republicans, they know deep down their white democratic base is just as racist, if not MORE, than the Trump voters, both parties are dedicated to ignoring African American issues. If Bernie cannot make specific dollar guarantees to the African American community, you should expect to see a second Trump term. -

In that area I think it is obvious I was speaking of low end jobs. Not low demand, low end. Restaurants will never pay a worker $100,000 a year to flip burgers, they'd rather shut it down than do that. The market doesn't work off of strict supply and demand like that, there are other factors causing people to make illogical decisions. Most restaurants would rather close the restaurant in the city of Toronto than to pay a line cook or a server $20 an hour. It is just an issue of greed. Except what happens when the businesses have largely been consolidated by a few major players who are behaving in a greedy way and irrational way? Many of them are closing down, this is why the landlord are selling out for condos, the restaurants would rather not pay more money than to make money and payout more.
